  • Fuck hipsters.

  • Awesome movie guys. Keep it up.

  • Beautiful.

  • anyone know the title of the song fifteen minutes in, that goes, "i forgot everything before september hit"? thanks.

  • Exceeded all my expectations. Couldn't ask anything more.

    Great job!

  • I was with the producers until they started talking about helping one's community. Not one of them looks African, they all look like White American males, which means they should be helping their own community, White American males.

This isn't 100 years ago, White American males need help!

  • VERY COOL!

  • Good job guys

  • shut the fuck up!!

  • hmmm the guy looks like enrique iglesias

  • hey! nice work!

  • It looked great in HD on New York channel 13 two weeks ago, and I really enjoyed it. I give it a big thumbs up!

  • I really like the movie, very interesting but I have a question what happens with Kyko and joseph????

  • I really enjoyed this video. I wish you luck in the future with whatever comes your way. You all have a gift.

  • Great film, Hope to see more from you in the future!

  • Anyone know where to find a listing of the music from this film? The credits in the youtube video are too blurry...

  • Me = We

    There's your t-shirt, homey.

  • Beautiful movie! Shows the ironies and inconsistencies of young adulthood. Showed it to all my friends as soon as I finsished it. They loved it and I love it. Hope this can be considered for the Cannes Film Festival or another Indie film festival. If this has already taken place, forgive me.

  • A slow mover. A lot of good scenes here, but you must introduce a deeper complication or problem that will ignight and drive this plot, which right now is not happening. That problem (whatever it is) will grab the audience and propel the movie. As it sits, a lot of creative scenes here, but sincerely overall, its not going anywhere. Intro the sensitive Japanese girl, however, a good try.

  • your cinematography is impressive, bravo. scripting needs some work, though -- not trying so hard would help, methinks. also, better actors. much, much better actors.

  • What is really scary is that I know people that talk like the characters in this movie. Great movie. It really made me think. Oh yeah, and while we're being sincere, I didn't understand all the dialogue.

  • Wow. Great job guys. Very well-made, thought provoking film with some great messages. Keep up the good work.

    Peace.

  • Fantastic Film. Congratulations!

  • Nice job guys! Excellent story, very human (believable) characters, and gives you lots to think about intellectually and spiritually. Keep it up and good luck on your future productions!

  • Dude! You guys have got it right on. This movie really touched me. It's perfect. Please continue making movies!!

  • Awesome movie. Seriously. It's one of the best independent films I've ever seen. I had no problem following the dialog, and thought all of the characters, while a little over the top, were very cleverly written. Please make more movies.

  • Signed up for amiestreet, and I've been on it basicaly allll day. xD If you invite your friend (or your alternative email) you can get a $5 credit. yay!

    haha.

but about the video.. I think I need to watch it again, there is alot of dialogue I didn't catch. But I love the message though, definitely sharing this with friends.

  • good: technically good funny side char's at points right actor for protagonist music good neg: story carried by dialogue rather than action bad dialogue-- few of the conversations make sense often doesnt make any sense--conflict btw guy and girl is unclear not exciting-- slow moving weird no resolution btw guy and girl @ the end lacks clarity- metaphors go over audience's head sincerely, Tim
  • Okay, some folks who bought the $3 of credit have been having trouble getting the email from Amie Street (the one with the link to download the movie). Firstly, thanks for supporting the film and Fount of Mercy. Our comments below offer some solutions:

  • The process of the email response is not automated, so sometimes it takes awhile for the email to come. Usually it's the same day, but we've heard from some people that it comes later (but it does come).

  • If your email software has spam filters, you may also want to check there. Some filters tag the email as spam so you don't see it.

  • Finally, if those options don't work, please email us at trouble @ cultofsincerity . com and we'll work with you and with Amie Street to solve the problem. - Hope this is helpful - Adam, Brendan, & Daniel

  • Hey great production from look to sound. One question how were you able to post this entire flick up on you tube in one piece? I thought no larger than 10 minutes at a time could be posted. Be curious how you do it, thank you.

  • YouTube can expand an account to allow for longer videos. We were finalists in the Project: Direct shorts contest last fall, and that got our foot in the door.

  • yep, me too. signed up w/ amiestreet, bought $3 in credits, no video. PLEASE FIX THIS!

  • Like ypaaron, I signed up and bought three credits but didn't get a link to download the video either. What's up with that?

  • i signed up and bought three credits but didn't get a link to download the video

  • Your premise is very post-postmodern. Very "current"!

  • Great job guys can you please tell me what kind of camera you use?

  • We shot on the Panasonic HVX200, in 720p, using an Anton Bauer 35mm lens adapter and cinema lenses. The HVX is great, but it's the lenses and lighting that really make it shine... you should see it in HD!

  • ok great thanks guys one last thing how did you guys do the mics? sound is amazing thanks again

  • Different mics in the hands of a talented production sound mixer ("Shady" Neil Seidman), but usually a Sennheiser 416 (I think). Also a fair amount of post-production EQ and mixing.

  • I really liked Kiko's legend.

  • I think it's a perfectly valid interpretation to say Joseph is kind of a dickhead throughout the movie. One thing to remember is that the sympathies of the movie don't always lie with the main character. Personally, one of my favorite works is Don Quixote. In that, you have this naive old man trying to bring back chivalry. He's on a ridiculous quest. And frankly, it's mostly self-interested, so when he goes about it, he pretty much wrecks everything. He even breaks a few shepherds' legs.

  • can anyone tell me what song is playng when joeseph gets on his bike after he gets off the subway? sounds like very starsailor ish i like indie so if someone can tell me id appreciate it

  • The song is "All You Know" by Andy Zipf.

  • thanks

  • I thought this made a lot of interesting points. Other movies don't relly talk about someone trying to not be a dickhead nymore.

ie. I liked that the main guy just wanted his parents back together and his convos w/his mom. Those made me feel foor him.

What was is that you didn't get or cringed at, skjr?

  • Was Joseph's only non-dickhead actions to run around helping strangers (those so naively dickhead, right?) ?? Did he do anything that wasn't obviously self-interested or non-angst produced? Every emotion presented by all those people seemed so touch n go-- so any sincerity presented became dubious to me.

I didn't see Joseph and pals' ramblings connect profoundly w/ the divorce backstory (was there one?). Point me to a good example and I'll be happy to watch again...

  • Anyone trying to change that dramatically that quickly will make similar mistakes. That sort of thing makes it more realistic I think. It's also pretty funny.

  • A lot must have been put into this film, I know. But I hope your future projects would get so good that more people would admit cringing to this one!

  • I think I'm in the minority here . . I know the creators of this film, but to be honest (am I allowed?), I didn't 'get it' at all. Maybe too many characters with too much alternating heady or cutesy dialogue for me to feel for anyone.

Also, whether positive or negative comments or in-between, people here are trying to be SINCERE... wouldn't it be ironic if we were squelching SINCERE voices :) ?

  • great movie, just a question -how are you able to upload a full length movie over an hour like this one, onto you tube?

do u have to be a paying member or?as i am a normal member but most uploads are no more than 10mins i thought.cheers

    Derek

  • Yeah, YouTube can expand an account to allow for longer videos. We were finalists in the Project Direct shorts contest last fall, and that got our foot in the door.

  • As someone pursuing the priestly office of the Catholic Church, as well as someone who sees the value of traditional language and expression, but who also sees the value in accommodating our language and expression to the intended audience I was thrilled with this movie. Excellent execution, as well as content. The intellectual aspect was engaging and thought provoking. The message was timeless, even though it wore the cloak of the here and now. One word, brilliant.

  • Great stuff, guys! Not to mention amazing way of promoting your work -- love the invention of a new business model. Oh, and it was nice to see my alma mater name-dropped (BC), even if it was the butt of a joke.

  • Amie Street will be sending out another email this evening with links to download the Cult of Sincerity!

  • No link from Amie Street despite buying the credits, etc. What's up with that?

  • Hey, Amie Street will be sending out the next wave of emails with the link to download the movie shortly!

  • Oh no, they did NOT just put a shakuhachi flute backdrop to the little japanese girl telling her ancient japanese fisherboy legend story.

Did you run out of money for the na na na na na na na na na GONG at the end, fellas?

  • you're gonna take issue with the japanese flute as a patronistic ethnic faux pas, but then you call her a "little japanese girl"? I'm not tryin' to be an asshole here, but c'mon!

  • Just a quick note on the Japanese flute issue. It's supposed to feel a bit uncomfortable, as Kiko plays into the stereotypes that she's very aware of. So moments later, when she says she made it up, we're free to say, "oh thank god! The filmmakers weren't serious about that!"

  • "So I'm a Christian mother@$%&%!"

    check it.

Looks like religion's in it anyway, filmcriticals

  • So was the aim of this project to make a good movie, or to create a self deciminating cliche/positive change from this movie? Either way, I think it came one step short of an overall outlook on life. While religion was (mostly negatively) addressed, I think the final answer of "love" should have been further delved into with respects towards a God. While love can be the means, love winning cannot be the ends unto itself. Personally, I liked what you did with this movie. My regards.

  • @Caleeebsan

Why are you imposing a your religion on a movie?! It doesn't have to address a god.

  • I'm not imposing a religion on the movie or viewer per se, but since the film deals primarily with world views, I think the movie could have gone more into depth about what "love" actually implies as opposed to leaving the viewer with simply a feel good ending.

  • I think it's rather short sighted of you to say that Love isn't the end goal. I would suggest that is it. It seems to me that you're referring to a monotheistic religion, probably Christianity, in which case love is the greatest goal. God loved his children, which is why he sacrificed so much for them, Christians are called to love their neighbors, in fact the new testament calls it the greatest commandment. and finally, the whole idea behind Christianity it to glorify God, a component of love.

  • What does that have to do with anything? I agree with Caleebsan. Imao it treats religions mostly negatively anyway. The scene with the crusades was about how religious people use it to get land and power. That's pretty negative

  • beginning of the scene need to flow more especially in the bar - the transition from character to character while someone is talking the camera can start on another scene and fade out the conversation and fade in next scene and conversation So far the move looks interesting.

  • beginning of the sense need to flow more especially in the bar from character to character while some talking the camera can start on another sense and fade out the conversation and fade in the present conversation on screen. So far the move sounds interesting.

  • We are making a featue film too. BUT we are having a hard time with publicity.
