PERMANENT WAVES (1980) marked the starting point for Rush's full-blown entry into condensed, accessible progressive rock. They abandoned the 20-minute suites and mystical lyrics for catchy progressive song structures, and more human, worldly-related topics. But, Geddy Lee (vocals/bass/synths), Alex Lifeson (guitars) and Neil Peart (drums/lyrics) didn't lose their brilliance in composition, even if most of the track lengths were fit for radio. ENJOY! ;o)
I saw them in Baton Rouge, LA in l980 and they played Permanent Waves (All but maybe one cut) and introduced a couple of new ones from their upcoming album...and Tom Sawyer and Limelight were first heard live in that tour. The album came out a few months later, and the rest is history
haha everyone wanted to see them do it throughout the 80s. they played it every time I saw them for my first three concerts (I saw snakes and arrows 3 times and time machine once =P )
B side of my P.W.record was worn clean out when I got this record. This one and Natural Science are the sleepers on that Disc. Fantastic memories...Thanks
The Hemispheres tour was the best Rush show ever. I was there and it was AMAZING with Geddy belting out great older stuff like "Working man" and Fly by night" (not compilations of the old stuff) as well as the newer Hemispheres stuff. I can say that I became a Rush fan at that concert. It was at the Saginaw Civic Center in Michigan.

Who would name a band Rush? Lame, never heard of this band and they don't play screemo so why would I care. I Only listen to screemo, cause that what real musicians play. Ya.. Pssst! Rush. Some kind joke band right. Made up names and songs titles, obviously the jokes are fun. Rush. Just call it death cab then maybe I'll believe you.
@earlymtv All this time I could have sworn they played it when I saw them. The only song off Permanent Waves I thought not done was Different Strings. Hmmm....

Sounds almost like alex singing ? Anyways, this is one of my favorite Rush tunes because it has a really good rythm and solid mix to it.

some of the most thoughtful and interesting lyrics Peart has ever written, the latter stanzas of this song, really a bad-ass poem, are mindblowing.
