Just curious . . .is VOCAL LINE a software? if so . . .wat's the latest version . . . if not. . . what's the software used in this video . . . thank you
@megaLIONj i dont think its a software but you can get vocal line plugins... and this software is protools a pretty expensive program brother. i'd look at acid pro or its older version i'm still usings its cool edit pro 2.0 its pretty good if you watch the youtube tuturials then you'd catch on quick.
@RightEarMuzik click the word you want to stutter, click split or break i forgot what it was for logic then split the word/words you want a few times maybe even six if you're doing techno. after that mute every other block after the first that you keep unmuted and dont keep the last of the world muted.
hey man i need yur help really bad...i need to use beats in protools se but how can i put beats in protools so i can recprd wit it bro???...and i want to do the stutter effect with protools se
People are saying this is a gate effect but gate's use a threshold and decibel levels to control dynamic muting (opposite of a compressor). I believe the best name for this is a manually edited Tremolo effect.
@GiovanniDre A noise gate and a gate effect are not the same thing. Gating (the effect) is equivalent to a 100% volume modulation tremolo using a square wave.
@RyanCacophony Thanks for reminding me of that. I have not personally used the Gating effect, but I know you can do things like have the bass only hit when the kicks do. Is this achieved with the same plug ins one would use for noise gates on drums?
@GiovanniDre Haven't tried it myself, but assuming the plugin you're using has a way to take in the kick/drum track (ie like an aux in), while only affecting the bass track, then yeah, a noise gate could do that. Makes me think of the opposite of sidechain compression
Actually I just googled it, some noisegates have a sidechain! Look for noisegate plugins with sidechains (or hardware I guess)
you can't just double the vocals...you need to delay one of them by a few ms and/or do some parallel-compression and/or eq one track completely different, otherwise you will have some phase problems...
this is not stutter, if you go on my page and listen to my freestyle of lose my mind then itll show you wat it is, let me know if you want me to do a tutorial
I did this effect on my first album 10 years ago! funny... Diz + Rock Bottom.. song annialiation .. good video,, thanks for showing this,, good stuff!
For those of you looking for the song that's used in the video, I did some digging. So Lorne Bregitzer does production for a lot of bands, I figured he had some credits on his own page. Not that easy, actually I found some sample songs on his page by a band called "Strange Condition." So I listened through both of their albums on their Myspace until I found the song.
@Jasn1111 Maybe so with ProTools - I sold my rig a few years back when I realised how cumbersome it made many processes (which is why Slo-Tools is a suitable moniker). Sadly all these years on it likes to feel like a "comfortable tape-based recording replacement" rather than a rapid production tool.
But anyway, a gate triggered by MIDI would seem a smart way to add rhythmical stutters - hopefully someone else will know of a simple inline way to do this.
I'm going to agree with all the haters on this one. It's a gate effect, mute effect, volume, etc, and there are several ways to do it - the least preferred way is the one described in this tutorial, which also happens to be the most destructive (should you really have to create a backup copy an entire vocal track just to apply an effect?). And, you can't copy/paste it or apply the effect to multiple tracks, etc.
On the other hand, this tutorial is well produced and easy to follow. Good job.
I HATE YOU NIGGAZ BELOW ALWAYS ACTIN YALL YALL KNOW MORE THAN THE TUTORIAL MAN........IF YOU KNOW SO MUCH POST A VIDEO AN TEACH....IF NOT SHUT THE FUCK UP!!!!!!
it is not really an effect per say.. all that you're doing is making small blank spaces in between the elongated portion of the vocal. ITs very useful tho ~!
@kreeper6 true it is... but this method is great if you dont have a stutter plugin. done right this is a great method. at least you know your shit tho haha
@kreeper6 This is not a gate effect. A gate effect has a determined volume threshold value (set in dB) that if the audio signal falls below, it is muted completely from that channel. This is merely an example of muting volume to tempo, not setting a gate.
@MrRKaine Yes it is gate effect!!! This effect is classically done with a sidechain on the Gate. The gate is triggered usually by a bass drum pattern. Your example is merely the technique known a gating and is not the gate effect.
This guy got his alt and cntrl function keys mixed up... It's cntl m to mute regions in pc... Good rule of thumb when converting mac hot keys to pc hot keys... Cntrl on pc = cmd in mac, windows in pc = cntl in mac, and alt in pc = option/ alt in mac... Hope that makes since if not read your hot key manual you'll get it!
using a gate can replicate this effect, but this method is very fast to execute and provides for easy access to detailed changes, especially if you want to vary the length of the chops by small increments to create a more "Live" or "DJ" feel
I thought that was weird too. But since Alexander Graham Bell discovered this unit of measurement I guess it technically 'should' be pronounced like that. I'm not changing the way I say it.
Very good tutorial, smack on. The softer volyme-model stutter is better and the 2 track audio is good. You could choose just to add variation enough to make a pulse. Very nice
