Haven't seen anyone play a hitman, as well as Cruise, since.
Must look back to the old French wave films for a performance of this authenticty and stature. Respect to Cruise. And, who gives a damn about his off screen beliefs. Most actors are crazy. Do you want them M.O.R.
I absolutely LOVE this movie (and the music, its very moving). The movie and music go so good together. Wtih me going into Psychology, I have to definitely say that this is an AWESOME psychology based movie. These psych. teachers should seriously play this movie to their students. It's an awesome movie just perfect for it. I LOVE IT :)
tom cruise is awesome. who cares if he's a little hard to understand? god knows that gives him far more credit in my eyes than the run-of-the-mill boring-as-fuck only-concerned-with-their-image charlatans that showbusiness attracts. at least he has a perspective on the metaphysical and has put thought into his life philosophies, that shows a depth many people never achieve
I literally can't get enought watching this movie, this movie defenitely goes to my BEST MOVIES TOP 10, it's terrific movie of such unique director Michael Mann who always push things to the limit, just absolutely brilliant movie
a good thing about michael mann's movies, among other things, are the movie endings (and Collateral was no exception) i loved the way he filmed vincent with his head down, dead, inside the train, and at some distance, and then changed all of the sudden to Max and the prosecutor leaving the train stop... and then back to the train again, watching it as it goes away and then back to Max and the prosecutor at the street »» the end for Vincent, a new beginning to the taxi driver.. brilliant
@darthkantus I know what you mean. Another thing I found was his opposing characters could be friends if the situation was different. HEAT Hanna comes over to McCauley as he lay dying and holds his hand. COLLATERAL Max says to Vincent "We're almost at the next stop" meaning we can get you some help, you don't have to die here. I admire that, I don't really see it anywhere else.
To me, this is another 'this could happen to anyone' film. I am not saying that in a bad way, I am saying with the movie carries a story that if paid attention to, anyone could easily gather. It is one of the best films of all time and I would put it on the highly recommended list.
Best Tom Cruise movie is Top Gun, by far, and it will always be his best. I do agree that this is probably Jamie's best film, although I think his acting was better in Ray.
i get goosebumps when this comes on in the film its amazing how does michael mann make night films look so good is it some sort of fuckin amazing camera likeurban twilight or sum shit
Heat and Collateral are so similar. Both set in LA. Heat Starts off at a Metrorail station and Collateral ends in one. Heat ends at an airport where Collateral starts off in one. Vincent is the Good guy in Heat but Collateral has a bad Vincent. Vincent does a Mozambique drill on a fat chinaman at club fever, turns around holstering his gun and walking away where Neil Mcauley does the EXACT same thing to Waingro in the hotel. Both victims were sat down in fear of their assassin. MINDBLOWING MANN
I felt so bad for Cruise's character. Michael Man(sp?) has a way of capturing depression for men -- this impotent frustration that is ridden out in self destructive inertia. Cruz and Foxx from this movie, Pacino, Dinero, Kilmer from Heat. The movies can definitely be melodramatic, but at times I find the male figures very empathetic. I think if it weren't for the good family and friends we have, lots of guys would behave like them. That's one reason why his movies like this are so good. :)
this is my favorite movie what i like most about vincent was that he was realy smart like at the end when the train stopped he went out and pointed his gun towards max his location so he can shoot him if max tryed to get out of the train and run away that way he has no way to escape
Yup. The weight and the power of this music is astounding. It just feels like all this momentum, energy, power, force is finally released. These two have finally stopped moving and it is over. Let it all go. Breathe for a moment...
We can't deny that Tom Cruise is a great actor it will be a lie. For me it isn't because he's a scientologist that he isn't good at films. We have to seperate his private life and his life as an actor, but it's only my opinion and don't believe I defend him and this sect not at all! (sorry for my english XD)

Is Heat as good as Collateral?
rls151 2 years ago
Actually though Collateral was Michael Manns best until I watched Heat (the best action move of the 90's). You cant fail with De Niro and Pacino.
mnc365 2 years ago
I thought HEAT was a better film, especially the "bank shootout" scene
