Pete Best (their former drummer) is still alive. The person you are referring to would be Stu Sutcliffe their ex-bassist who died of a brain hemorrhage in 1962. There were accusations from Stu's sister, (quite sometime after John's own death, I believe). There wasn't however, any proof. It could have very well happened in the well known attack on Stu after one of their sets from some "teddys", Astrid herself said she didn't believe that.

Y'know this whole thing about hating and wanting to kill Mark David Chapman just is so not what John was about. John wouldn't have wanted anything like that. John was from Liverpool and could be kind of tough and get a bit riled up about being shot at, but he would have, I believe, forgiven the guy ultimately. I think in John's spirit and memory we should try and keep that as the better way to experience life. We'd all trade John's killer for John but that's just not possible.
