Thank you, that was very helpful. I recently purchased a horse that needs a running martingale, and since I've never had to use one before, you made it very easy to see how to apply that!
Thank you :) I just started riding English, and my one horse likes to have her ears in my face, so I ride her with a martengale every now and then. Just didn't know quite how to attach it lol
i have to tack up a horse every week, and he has a martingale, every week i put it on wrong! and its really annoying! i put the reins and the martingale on together we never take the bridle apart to put on the martingale, but somehow it ends up wrong! :( does anyone know any vids that put on the martingale step by step without putting the martingale on separately? it would be a great help! thanks! :)
Quick question, I have a standing martingale, i have never used it on any of the horses i have owned. I was thinking about using it with my cobby though, she is 21 and i have had her 10 years now and i can ride her better than anyone else and she is really controlable, she has a pelham with double chain but i use d-rings instead of double reins, what would the standing martingale actually do? i would like to use it when i hack out and we go to the gallops so she is not as strong.
@NadineeXD Hey, A standing martingale is just to control the horses head if he/she throws it alot, It wouldn't really help in your situation. I really think a martingale is not necessary in your situation maybe a neck strap if you want for balance or something to hold on to? Hope this helps :)
well if you think about it, when horses are startled they throw their head up, and the martingale keeps the horse from making that natural movement. i would suggest that the rider laern how to keep the horse under control and keep the horse on the bit rather than use tools like the martingale to restrict the horse's natural movements.
Some horses just throw up their heads just to be obnoxious- one of the horses I ride does that. He needs a martingale to make sure he's not throwing up his head and acting like a jerk. It actually controls him pretty well.
Does anybody know the effects of a running martingale? I'm thinking about getting one for my mare, as she likes to raise her head and jump around. It's very frustrating.
It restricts the height her head can go.. not restraining her... just stopping her from throughing her head up, avading the bit, etc... i use them on both my mare and new gelding.. they are great! also, if your saddle slips back like both of mine as my horses are changing shape, get a beast plate..... either a standard staright one or a three point... you can get parts of marntingale to attach to them too!
i dont need to "chill" i just dont want u to think im a dumbass with horses..... coz im am DEFFO NOT! sorry for being frotsy but i just thought it was a bit out that u were sorta laughing at me for asking her!

you forgot to say that you need to move the rings over the keepers to keep the martingale from slipping back
