Springfield's Federal 2001 sirens are on four minute cycles with up to a minute and a half pause in between. How many cycles did the sirens run through for that storm?
i was in springfield that day at a hotel. the sirens went off and then a transformer sparked and blew out. then all the doors started shaking and a gust of wind came through the lobby and i couldnt hear anything afterwards for awhile because of the intense pressure clogged my ears up. everyone was panacking
what college u go to. i live in springfield and hate getting woken up by sirens and northing happens at all but a all clear. it seems to like south side of town
@basenjilover No kidding. All the severe weather happens just south or east of town. Joplin always gets it bad, but if the storm's track takes it over the northern portion of Springfield, the storm weakens before it gets there and restrengthens after it passes. We had some strong but disorganized rotation pass right over the Evangel University campus one day in May. As soon as it was beyond the range of the city sirens, it organized itself enough to trigger a warning.
MLR2107 I USED TO LIVE IN NEOSHO (a.k.a. DA SHO) MO. I WENT THRU THAT TORNADO THAT KILLED LIKE 26 PEOPLE A COUPLE YEARS AGO. IT WAS BADASS!!!!!!!! THERE WAS ONE F5 TORNADO AND ONE F4. i think that is how they are described not exactly sure, forgot.
When I was 2 years old I went through two tornados in Oklahoma and Texas. I didn't know what was going on. I just remember being in a celler and seeing black outside the small window. It sounded so Monsterous. I'm in Dexter, Missouri. Awaiting a tornado. Not sure if one will hit. I would probably cry and grab onto my boyfriend for dear life. I would totally record it. Nice recording. =]
our gym was destroyed at Marion C. Early. My first tornado. Scariest day ever. There was lots of crying and screaming everyone was afraid. I was so scared that my grandmother didnt make it. I passed out during all of it. Nana did make it though, and i thank god for that :)
yah, we live over by cox south and everyone in the apts were outside, we all huddled at the bottom floor between some concrete floors. Your hair was standing up and chills down your spine that morning. I wasn't supposed to be up till 12 for work. Thank god for the sirens...but a terrible way to wake up! Glad it ended safely.
I live out toward Pleasant Hope and it went over my property...I heard the "train" sound and saw a wall of what looked like whitish-grey smoke in front of a huge fan just at the treetops. I didn't realize I was looking at the tornado skipping over my house. We had very little damage.
I live in Massachusetts, but I was at my daughter's in Springfield, MO on that morning. You've absolutely captured the "feel" of that morning! My daughter is a nurse at Cox Hospital and was at work at the time. Her neighborhood off of Cherry St. had a lot of trees down.
I spent at least half of the "tornado warning" time huddled in the bathtub! On the TV broadcast toward the beginning of your video you can hear him talking about the tornado being in the vicinity of Cox Hospital.
I remember that day...I had tons of debre...My neighbor was looking i his binoculars and said(since w kew it waS SOUTH OF US) get inside NOW! a barn door is heading our way!!!! Needless to say.....we all ran for cover.
Yup same storm. I'm just down the I-44 from you in Marshfield, MO. Is that MSU I see about a block away? If so I could drive right to you r apartment... haha... grew up in Springfield.
wow that's crazy Tornados scare the crap out of me. And i've been in two big fires, a small earthquake and a hurricane but Tornados are really the only thing that scare me
Was this taking on Walnut street look like the old apt I used to stay out when this happened...

Wow, that must have been an F5 tornado. Not a blade of grass was left attached to the battered earth.
