  • Are there actually 8 yards of fabric in the kilt ?

  • @Amarikita Yes, typically. It can vary a bit depending on the sett (pattern) of the tartan, and for a larger waist it can even be nine or ten yards! Try pacing that out... it's a lot of material, and a lot of sewing!

  • @TartanKiltsByScotweb Thanks for your response. That would explain why they are sometimes quite expensive. Any particular reason the pleates have to be so wide and take up so much material ? Thanks in advance.

  • @Amarikita Yes, it's the depth of pleat, ideally with a heavier wool fabric, that gives the kilt its uniquely impressive swing in movement. That's what distinguishes it from a skirt. It's also why a properly made one looks so different to a cheap copy, as these are made with less fabric or lighter materials. You're right that they're not cheap garments. But remember that they can last a lifetime and are traditionally handed down from father to son. So the value is tremendous.

  • i likes every cultur in the world and this one is too ! but , why they acting like a girl ? / showing thei ass /

  • my dad wears his band kilt to every formal occasion mom will let him get away with he would of worn one to my younger sisters wedding if my mom let him

  • You'd be surprised how many of our customers have no Scots blood at all. Lots of non-Scots do, just because they love the way it looks, and how it feels. As I always say, you don't have to be a cowboy to wear denim jeans, do you?

  • Is it crazy for a non-Scottish (or non-white) to wear kilts ? I am very much impressed by Scottish kilt and I would like to plan on wearing kilts in the future.

  • @Theclowcard

Not at all! Anyone can wear a kilt, and you can wear whatever tartan you'd like. In the old days, tartans reflected your family and clan, but nowadays it's more a fashion thing. There are even tartans for Canadian provinces, regimental tartans, as well as some universities.

Don't be worried about wearing a kilt if you aren't white. Do some looking around and you can find pictures of Samuel L. Jackson wearing a kilt.

  • So HOT. I love to see a man in a kilted suit. WOW. You surely picked a fine bunch of models for this shoot, too. Kudos, they make your product look highly desirable! :0)

  • I have the Bonnie prince charlie outfit shown at 19 secs,

just became a US citizen and proudly wore my kilt to the ceremony, came here from Ayrshire Scotland 4 year ago to sunny Arizona.

  • heh, actually, i have. check Flynne and O'hera inventory, the skirts for my school are listed as "kilts"

  • oh no D: they must be smitten!!!

  • okay, i don;t want to sound stupid but... what's "smitten"?

  • smitten, you know, like, smite? like attacked?

  • @LadyLuria

smitten means you're taken in by it,you're starting to fall in love with it.not just a crush as someone says, you can be smitten by a car,a dress or this kilt.

  • OMG these kilts are amazing, I'm gonna get one for myself even though I'm a girl. Actually I'll have a sexchange op so that I can wear a kilt! YAY!

  • girls can wear womens kilts

  • You can have a kilted skirt made that comes all the way down to the ankle - sometimes it's called the "hostess skirt." I'm having one made in my own clan tartan, MacArthur.

  • Just fantastic. I'm 3rd generation Canadian, half my family came from Scotland. I'm now really considering ordering one. I think they're far more interesting than just a plain old suit.

  • I never realised how manly a kilt looks !
