Sonic on the master system was good, don't get me wrong, but the genesis counterparts were far better in my opinion.
I believe Super Mario Bros 3 is one of the best games ever made, and though Sonic 1 and 2 for the master system give the game a run for its money, and offer superior graphics, Mario 3 is still a better game.

Why are Nintendo gamers always such huge NERDS, stay friendly, it is a fact that SEGA had a better 8-bit system which was more powerful than the NES, they had the first succesful 16-Bit system and ALWAYS great exclusive titles. nintendo had a huge 3rd party support - one point for them. And you all should be glad that Sega now makes games for all consoles. Sega still holds the title for its own great games - Shenmue - Sonic Series - Virtua Fighter - S. All these Sonic VS. Mario vids... Psh. Bonk was the king amongst 16-bit mascot characters. A fast hedgehog and a fat plumber is no match for a cave kid who headbutts his enemies and goes apeshit when he eats meat. Bonk is a real man's game character.
Actually, SMS (Sega Master System) is much better than NES in terms of graphics, but SMS games sound worse than NES ones. About Sonic and Mario games... I like Sonic games more, but the last one shown (that had 3D-like prerendered graphics, 'Sonic Blast'), sucked even in comparation to original Sonic 1 on SMS.
SMB2's GBA version was awesome, but out of the question, Sonic 2 stunk, get the Gen version. SMB3 is awesome, Sonic Chaos is my favorite MS game. Sonic Blast has nice graphics, and Mario Bros is an arcade game (ported on the NES).
Mario wins the 8 bit trophy, he's just an overall conquerer of all that was 8- bit, except for Zelda, which comes close!

There's the clock speed, data bus, data path, archetecture etc. (the NES's MOS 6502 CPU had 1/2 the speed of the SMS's Z80 but was generally able to compete in processing ability due to other properties)
That said the SMS had it's advantages, particularly with the FM sound chip of the Japanese versions.

You have to remember that a MS card and GG cartridge only hold up to around 1 GB which is as powerful as Sonic Blast. Any graphical improvements and they probbly wouldn't fit.
I don't think you can really compare.. the Mario games were older, so graphics weren't that great, Sega's Sonic games were obviously made later where they had better graphics. :\ And Sega bassically copied the idea from Mario games.
Who you think will win? Nintendo won. Almost 20 years ago. There's no opinion involved. Sega knew they would lose so they went to work on the Genesis/Mega Drive.
actually sega beat itself with the release of the next gen sega genisis the sega cd the sega 32x and then the sega saturn... the dreamcast was tecnically better than the playstation but i think the old school gamers such as myself who were loyal to the sega through the origional 8 bit and 16 bit systems were let down by all the gimmicks and moved on...

No, the Master System was not 16-bit, it was 8-bit. The Mega Drive (Genesis) was 16-bit, that's why it's written on the console.

@callmemarc Super Mario Bros is fast because it's the PAL version. Some PAL NES games have faster music than NTSC, but some are slower or the same speed. Same with the Master System & Megadrive.

Sonic on the master system was good, don't get me wrong, but the genesis counterparts were far better in my opinion.
I believe Super Mario Bros 3 is one of the best games ever made, and though Sonic 1 and 2 for the master system give the game a run for its money, and offer superior graphics, Mario 3 is still a better game.

thats because it wasn't a mario game. it was doki doki panic and they changed the grfx for america. the real smb2 was thought to be to hard for usa players. its on the snes game SMB All Stars and called the lost levels. and it IS hard.

Why are Nintendo gamers always such huge NERDS, stay friendly, it is a fact that SEGA had a better 8-bit system which was more powerful than the NES, they had the first succesful 16-Bit system and ALWAYS great exclusive titles. nintendo had a huge 3rd party support - one point for them. And you all should be glad that Sega now makes games for all consoles. Sega still holds the title for its own great games - Shenmue - Sonic Series - Virtua Fighter - S. Rally - Panzer Dragoon - Shinobi - PStar!

Sonic Genesis Collection. But yeah you definitely have a point. I think its cool that Sonic and Mario have teamed up, but has anyone ever noticed that the games have well kinda changed after they did join forces? Sonic seemed more badass back then when he had his own franchise especially on Sonic CD. Is it just me or does Sonic seem a bit childish these days? Don't get me wrong either, I'm a HUGE fan of Sonic.

I think your emulator is a bit slow for the Sega stuff. I'm playing it right now on 100% speed, and it's a bit faster than what you're showing.
As for my two bits:
Mario was put together better. Also, Mario is actually older than Sonic, which skews Sonic 8 bit cuz it was developed much later than Mario.
If Sega had invested more into their software than their hardware (Sega CD?! 32X?! Really?!) they would have fared better.

All these Sonic VS. Mario vids... Psh. Bonk was the king amongst 16-bit mascot characters. A fast hedgehog and a fat plumber is no match for a cave kid who headbutts his enemies and goes apeshit when he eats meat. Bonk is a real man's game character.

Actually, SMS (Sega Master System) is much better than NES in terms of graphics, but SMS games sound worse than NES ones. About Sonic and Mario games... I like Sonic games more, but the last one shown (that had 3D-like prerendered graphics, 'Sonic Blast'), sucked even in comparation to original Sonic 1 on SMS.

SMB2's GBA version was awesome, but out of the question, Sonic 2 stunk, get the Gen version. SMB3 is awesome, Sonic Chaos is my favorite MS game. Sonic Blast has nice graphics, and Mario Bros is an arcade game (ported on the NES).
Mario wins the 8 bit trophy, he's just an overall conquerer of all that was 8- bit, except for Zelda, which comes close!

Just shows how pointless the whole "Bit" emphesis is without context. (particularly once you get up to 32 bits)
There's the clock speed, data bus, data path, archetecture etc. (the NES's MOS 6502 CPU had 1/2 the speed of the SMS's Z80 but was generally able to compete in processing ability due to other properties)
That said the SMS had it's advantages, particularly with the FM sound chip of the Japanese versions.

You have to remember that a MS card and GG cartridge only hold up to around 1 GB which is as powerful as Sonic Blast. Any graphical improvements and they probbly wouldn't fit.

I don't think you can really compare.. the Mario games were older, so graphics weren't that great, Sega's Sonic games were obviously made later where they had better graphics. :\ And Sega bassically copied the idea from Mario games.

actually sega beat itself with the release of the next gen sega genisis the sega cd the sega 32x and then the sega saturn... the dreamcast was tecnically better than the playstation but i think the old school gamers such as myself who were loyal to the sega through the origional 8 bit and 16 bit systems were let down by all the gimmicks and moved on...

If Sega would make still consoles...the graphics would be better than the one the PS3 can handle! I mean c'mon...Mega Drive vs. NES = MEGADRIVE SNES vs. GENESIS = Genesis N64/PS1 vs Dreamcast = Dreamcast!....Sega did win evrytime...then i started to make only games no consoles anyomore...and look what happend...SONIC GOT DOWNHILL!
