@Mustex4 Seriously? Consent is a good and necessary thing. Animals cannot consent. They also can't form a legal contract, which marriage of any stripe is. The next time a non-human animal (or plant) can sign a business contract, take out a loan, pay taxes, or sign off on hospital orders, then by all means, go propose marriage. In the meantime, your comment trivializes real legal relationships of any and all genders among consenting adults.

@yaleboy716 Of course it wasn't the Mormons that blocked it, most of their money came from Utah. It was the amount of money being poured into misinforming political advertisements, a large part of which came from the Utah Mormons, that influenced voters to vote prop 8 into law. Ethnic minorities as a whole were one of many groups targeted and successfully influenced by the anti-gay ads, minorities who don't generally vote with as much of a turn-out as they did that year.

The fact is that if we were to 'live together and not bother getting married' then would be a compromise and would mean the entire homosexual population was being treated differently to heterosexuals.
