Bob the bass thing is a fucking legend.... Wonderstuff, Neds Bin, Sandkings at Sheffield Uni was one of the best gigs i ever was fortunate enough to attend.....
Saw them in Glasgow back in May on the '8 legged...' anniversary tour... havnt lost their magic at all, the new rhythm section are worthy replacements and Erika's a great violinist too. I got into the stuffies (and the whole stourbridge scene) around the release of 'Hup!' when I was a teenager and when I hear the Stuffies or Neds it always makes me do the whole reminicing thing, great music from a great era of my life... RIP Rob & Gilksy :-D
once again i cannot put in words the feeling i have when i hear this song..(absolutely no worries in them days).i have far more than my fare share now....
Exactly the same for me, i was 14/15. For some reason this song still means so much to me. My musical tastes have changed but will never forget how this band made me feel growing up.
The Stuffies were huge in Ireland too. They were always played on pop video TV shows and even played a stadium gig in 1990/1991? at the Feile festival in Tipperary. Anyway this is probably my favourite song of their whole career.
erm may seem obvious but if you dont like miles hunt dont watch wonder stuff clips! and i can tell ya he aint a twat which is why my son is named after him ta
I knew Bob and went on the Hup tour with them (every gig). Bob came to my house in Studley Warks between tour dates and last ones in Brum before he left before that. The guy I lived with Paul told him to fuck off who was cheating on me anyway, I will never forgive myself for not going to Bob who moved to US (where I live now) when he needed me. Not sayin would have stayed with me but knew how to comfort him and chlll him out , no drugs just good honest conversation and stuff.
I too am from Studley and played with a band called The Libertines. We toured extensively with The Wonder Stuff from 1987up until the 'HUP' tour. Do we know each other?
According to the book 'The 8 legged atomic dustbin will eat itself' Rob Jones died of "a heart attack. He had a previously unknown heart condition that was exacerbated by certain aspects of his lifestyle" (ie sex, drugs and rock & roll, I suppose.)
My favourite Stuffies song by far. They were so under-rated. What a great band - I'm always pleased when one of their songs pops up when my ipod is on 'shuffle'.
I remember I had this on an old VHS tape. It was a joint venture program between Channel 4 and RTE (Ireland) can't remember the name of the program but Dave Fanning was the Irish presenter. I think it was shot in Camden Town. The Rock Steady seems to be the name (of the show) that is sticking in my head.
Following internal disagreements within the group, The Bass Thing left in December 1989, heading straight for America as soon as the group had played the final night of a sellout 3 night residence at Birmingham's Aston Villa Leisure Centre. Unsure as to his musical involvemnent in america, but i'm sure you could find out....
I'm sure it was in the papers that Rob Jones died of something like sleep apnia??? (could be completely wrong). I think he was in a band in the US called the Tunnel and Bridge crew. I could be completely wrong again.
its ok mate first time i saw them was 1987, in london at the old marquee, still have the unbearable t shirt, i think there wasnt that many at the gig, they did two nights at the place
great to see the original line up brings back the days of being a teenager and being all sweaty in Brixton academy.God Bless the Stuffies, RIP BOB and MARTIN.
thanks for a very rare video of a very rare song . brings back good memories of a no worry life... no bills mortgage .kids etc. still life is probably better now but good to look back..
I remember the lead singer appearing pissed on the James Whale Radio Show, drinking Black Tower Wine. Must've been around 1991-1992.

The Wonderstuff are the best non-mainstream band in the world. They are an example for all bands. God bless 'em all.
