This video really helped me out. I had my Ford 3930 nearly up to its hubs in thick, clayey mud. The PTO was buried and was gouging more mud in reverse. It did help that I had a large brush cutter hanging off the 3 point hitch. One refinement suggestion: cut a groove in the logs where the chain wraps around to prevent the logs from slipping. Here's my video is at v=o7UzxrdEs8Y
my buddy just got his tractor stuck last night tryin to get his truck out. might have to try this. definitely not going forward tho. i dont like when the wheels lift off the ground
Ya we put trees across cat tracks when the get bogged down, however this method is quite dangerous because you are putting the stick vertically instead of laterally, they do it this way because you just have to put it on once
Now if they'd placed a large rug under the wheels and stood clear, hit a low number gear they'd have done the job without wasting a day chaining the wheels up, and without the risk of toppling over.
According to that logic you should never drive your tractor forward. They need some weights on the front of it, if it's going to be pulling any kind of load.
@iharding123 Things that are likely to stop forward motion, like ploughs, are joined by triple point linkages partly to provide a stiff "tail" to stop the torque flipping the tractor. Tractor accidents are more frequent than you'd think and I doubt you can find a lifetime farmer who doesn't know someone injured by one of the many powerful turning, crushing, slipping, tipping or cutting actions that the machines are capable of generating.
DANGER. DON'T EVER DO THIS! This video should have a prominent warning to never drive a stuck tractor forward. What these guys did is very dangerous. When you drive a stuck tractor forward, the wheel torque lifts the front end up. It can easily flip the vehicle backwards. People have been killed doing this. Always back up a stuck tractor. The torque will push the front end down instead of lifting it. And reverse often has higher torque.
@KustomKlassix There was nothing maintaining tension on the cable. As soon as the tractor moved forward a little the cable went slack and the front of the tractor pitched up about 2 feet. They were close to a rollover. Of course the flimsy crane and cab structure might have prevented a complete 180 flip. You might want to do some research on safe tractor operating practices. Until then, stay off the farm.
@stevetork , It looks like they do have some sort of cable to hold the tractor from flipping over backward. I'm with markd3925, great idea! There are times in the past I wish I'd thought of something like this.
@stevetork Great idea! I wonder If I could apply it without ripping the fenders off my truck?
I agree with the above warning in the case of an old style farm tractor but this tractor has been modified for skidding timber so the boom and structure would eliminate the danger warned of and then there is the protective cage over the driver.
@stevetork Depends. If you have a tool on the three-point hitch that is long, you can do this without great risks,if you do not have a tool on the three-point,NEVER do this!
This is also right for tractor tugs of war, because the tool will hit the ground and prevent the tractor from flipping.
@stevetork That's why you have a clutch and not be an idiot, if you feel it going over push in the clutch....no one dies. Tractor tread only grips going forward and he had a piece of equipment behind him which would be the case nearly every time since that's what a tractor is for.
Got told of something similar being done to a MF that had got stuck on a tree stump where I used to work. Thought it was bullshit until watching this.
I watch this video every couple of months, and love it. My Major has about the same amount of tread, so I always keep this idea in the back of my mind if I head into soupy areas.
It's a cleaver idea but you have to watch it does not catch the valves especially on the old tractors. We got a nuffied 460 unstuck like that 18 years ago but caught the valve on the wheel.
That's brilliant. I'm using that to unstick my John Deere (as soon as I can get it to crank up). Yes, stuck in the mud AND won't start. Gotta love it!
aye show some fucking respect man, Iv bogged hundreds of times, we all think theres a slight chance of getting through, at least they got out, so why don't you shut your mouth
@aoeplayer69 It's not stupid. They seen the spot, took a chance, but got stuck.
This happens all the time no matter what your driving, be it truck, ATV etc. You see a spot, you figure "ah... I can make that, not that bad" then bam, stuck. In area's such as these, it happens all the time.
you dont have to like tractors, but you dont need to go around makin bad comments on peoples videos who do like tractors. why would you watch this if you dont like tractors?
this is a really good method and works in almost in situation the last time had to this we had to run 2x4s for the poles to catch on because the mud was so soft
jdman567 you gotta relax. you cant go around beating people up on you tube. a lot of people go on here just to argue. so sit back smoke some shit(if you got some) and enjoy life.
no it doesnt. i mastered the bucket, mower, speed, getting unstuck, and how to start a tractor all in one day doing some work at my grandpas farm. wasnt a difficult concept at all.
Well they say a lot off things but the main thing is that the cameraman is impressed that it worked and the Fordsondriver just answers: If it had been a Ferguson, the transmission would have broke down......
No not really. The fergusson of the same vintage has a safety point in the transimission box. It is a common problen that his safety releases due to extreme stresse when this type of action is poerfomred. WHats is broken is the safety. Not the transmission. From practical point of view however, I guess, it doesn't matter :-)
