These Dr. Tongue sketches seem to be anticipating the terrible trend in movies now of trying to make people feel better about paying too much to see awful movies by putting some stupid 3D effects in them. I'd rather see "Dr. Tongue's 3D House of Stewardesses" than most of these 3D movies out now.
This was the second "MCHT"; the very first was the 10/17/77 showing of "Madame Blitzman" (where it was explicitly mentioned at the beginning who Count Floyd was). This was, however, the first 3-D venture.
i noticed today on select youtube clips, they added a Closed Captioning mode. the clip of yours "Salt Shoes" is one of them. it's in Beta right now and only a percentage of that sketch was accurately CC'd. the rest of the words were way off. lol.
you have a clip called Salt Shoes from SCTV where the guy advertises this spray that makes your shoes look like they've been in snow. As i was watching it,i saw where Youtube added a Close Captioning mode for that video. I've only seen a couple of SCTV vids that have closed captioning enabled. They said it's beta testing right now. not all the words matched what was said though.
no. i mean youtube lirterally added a new feature of Closed Captioning on that clip. but the closed captioning didn't match what they were saying. it was youtube's fault, not yours. you'll see it when you go there.
Oh - now I got it! ("Salt Buddy"). You're kidding: that's so weird - LOL.....Well, I just checked it, but there was no C.C., unless they already pulled it. Or maybe it's on some systems.....??? Now it's even stranger - LOL! Thanks.
really? because it's still there on my end. oh well. anyway just thought i'd let you know. the clip was called "Salt Buddy" by the way. not sure why i said Salt Shoes lol.
Hey Paul: Okay: I finally got it; the little red C/C icon at the bottom of the video. Yes, it's there, but I'm too scared to see how they screwed up the captioning - LOL. I will though - too curious not to check it! Thanks again.
it's to the right of the progress bar. a red button marked CC is there. if you do the words come up on what they are saying,or supposedly. this clip, some odf it is accurate, but the rest the text sounds like what they are saying but it's not. your debate sketch from SCTV where they start off discussing how The Flinjtstones was a rip off of The Honeymooners has a CC button on it too.
Yeah, it's the best. But "campy" and "corny"! I think not. This is brilliant parody, satire, writing and comedic acting. Campy is kitsch, and corny would be akin to "Hee Haw". But I know what you were getting at - but maybe just the wrong words? (Please don't be angry at me - LOL).
This was their best use of the 3-D gag. Dave Thomas throwing bags of chips at the camera has been one of my mostly fondly remembered SCTV moments (I first saw it on NBC late night about 10 years ago).
Andrea Martin looks really young and beautiful here.

I find the fact they lifted the paddle ball bit from the '50s version to be amusing. XD

@wmbrown6 Yeah: I wasn't sure, as in the SCTV Guide, I think both, erroneously, were noted as the first. I'll check it out. Thanks.

@wmbrown6 Oh! This was the first 3-D one. Maybe that's where I got confused. F.

God Bless you Chalomirof for this and the 3D House of Beef.
(and well, for all of the SCTV archives)
Midnight Cowboy in 3D had to be my favourite though. John Candy doing Vincent Price - doing Jon Voight....
and Woody Tobias Jr. as Ratso Rizzo, with them walking down Yonge St...... Classic! Comedy Gold.
bechir1967 2 years ago
Lol, John Candy as Vincent Price, that's the greatest thing I've seen in a long time!

Y'know, I never made the connection between Dr. Tongue and Vincent Price. Good call - LOL.
