  • I love pilot I've sing this song on my school ,When I'm 14 (Now I'm 28),Everybody had sing along. And I love this song.

    Alex.

  • I remember this song from when it was first released. I had nothing good to say about the song or the band at the time and the passage of years has not softened my opinion one iota.

  • they called this bubblegum pop at the time but it is so superior lyric and chord wise to songs these days that these guys certainly had the last laugh!

  • thanks for posting this,, i was a boy when i fell in love with David pattens Voice Alan Parsons produced them, and have all the Alan Parsons Project albums, and the rare Keats, album, with David, Ian Bairnson,, love them still,, brings me joy,, thanks,,,,

  • At the time I thought these were great musicians but my metal and rock-loving mates smirked when I said so. I think time has borne me out - a great song brilliantly performed. Ian Bairnson in particular is a hell of a player.

  • timeless classic, love this so much x

  • Takes me all the way back to 74' when i was a nine year old living in Belfast (UK)

  • PILOT was another group which Alan Parsons produced......

  • Tune!

  • But I don't understand why this song reached no.1 and "Magic" didn't. This one is okay. But "Magic" is better.

  • always loved pilot great memories they ware able to sing and had great songs!

  • I just looked up what was no.1 on the day I was born. While I don't like it at all at least it's something I've heard before...if only I could have stuck it out an other couple of weeks then it would have been Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel "Make Me Smile (Come Up and See Me)" :P

  • Brings back so many good childhood memories with family listening to the top 40 charts on radio 1 on a sunday afternoon.

  • I remember jumping on the beds with the brothers singing this when it came out....Great song..hey sounds great well done on the remaster....

  • God, 1975, London, Jimmy Connors and Chrissy Evert, Hard Rock Cafe, David Bowie and Lou Reed...

  • I suppose this is just an old piece of fluffy pop but you have to hand it to whoever produced this record. It really grabs you with those melancholic overtones and the lovely on the beat strings. This used to sound a great blasting out of the old Rock-Ola jukebox in a subterranian bar by Victoria station. That's the night it got me, it just kept coming on, along with Santanas Samba Pa Ti. Man it was beautiful.

  • i had a 14 yr old sing this to me it was so cute from carole trickies partner summer holidays at xmas

  • @moxee33 Has Selena Gomez rerecorded this track yet? Like she did with 'Magic'. Just think more pictures of her in a bikini.

  • Takes me back to my childhood when I was in the forth year at primary school in north London. I wonder what Miss Barret looks like now? Mrs Acton an auburn haired, gorgeous looking lady back then, Miss Barret looked like Crystal Tips out of 'Crystal Tips and Alistar' cartoon on the BBC. Odd times!

  • They had great music in the 70's ahhhhhhhh wonderful times.

  • took me back to my childhood again when I was discovering this music....wonderful, thanks for posting.

  • Son born January, best friend (man) born January. Lover born January. Sister born January, died June. Father born January, died May. Nanna born ? died October ... my month. Oh what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to conceive :)

  • I would just like to point out a grammatical error, hahahaha, only joking, unlike some, i do actualy have a life !! Brilliant song, thanks for posting !!! BTW, if i have made any spelling mistakes, keep it to yourself, life's tooooo short !

  • @sadnav Hey there...thanks for the comment - had nearly as many replies to 1 spelling error as I have the video. Maybe I should post a clip on painstakingly LOL....Glad U enjoyed the clip

  • @sadnav haha, 2 you, love a person that has a life AND a SOH :)

  • 7 people can't ride a motorbike ...am i right or am i right !!!

  • This jumped into my head today & i had to find out who played it ....ggggrrreeeaatt !!

  • I think he looks like Pete Shelley.

  • Is that Julia Gillard singing?

  • @mgo26 lol...check out my other video - 'Isn't it time' The baby's....looks more like Gillard LOL

  • too funny...bet hed do a better job

  • @mgo26 Nope its davy paton from scotland, he went on to be Elton johns bass player and also played with Fish.

  • Deliciously evocative of my childhood. Thanks.

    Truly mastersof their profession.

  • This song has so many hooks, it's dangerous! :-) Pure pop genius.

  • takes me right back happy days ty

  • @ttgagger countdown on a Sunday Night, number 1 song (for ages) eating baked bean waffles...12 years old - great memories.

  • @copsafe Sorry to have to say this to a native speaker, but it's 'pains takingly' - from the expression 'take pains' - not 'pain stakingly.' If you misspell it, it also means you mispronounce it. It's pronounced /peɪnzteɪkɪŋlɪ/, rather than /peɪnsteɪkɪŋlɪ/, as I assume you pronounce it, given the way you spell it. Great song, though - one of the best Pilot songs, together with Just a Smile.

  • @hindsighter Thanks for the spelling check...I was picked up on it 219,000 views ago. I didn't change it because well I wanted to edit something nice not be judged on my spelling. Urs (sorry Yours note you'res LOL) was the most interesting response though so thanks. More importantly, glad you enjoyed it

  • @hindsighter It's 'painstakingly' (one word), you pompous twat. How did you learn phonemes, yet not basic spelling?

  • @mgo26 Why the insult? I split the word like that to show that the 's' comes from painS - and must therefore be pronounced /z/ - and not from 'stakingly.' copsafe took it much better than you. Well, this was a good excuse to listen to Pilot again.

  • takes me right back happy days ty

  • ...the clothes, the lighting, the harmonies and the production....sigh...I miss them all.

    :-)

  • love this track it really takes me back to my childhood :)

  • ;)

  • Absolute classic song! Great post and crackin' remaster to!

  • i sing this every january .......im a sad fucker

  • @tom6lillie5 Not really, it works. It's a great song and also a shame old classics ain't appreciated anymore.

  • 12 years okld

  • I remember Molly Meldrum playing the clip until the line 'Sick and tired' and mentioning that he was sick and tired of listening to this song, after this was number 1 for ten or so weeks on Countdown, almost begging the Aussie kids to stop buying this record as the show Countdown alway played the number 1 single of the week. I think he played the number 2 song on the last week.

  • Jan 1975 Broken leg. Kingston Hospital. Mackeson every night. Pretty nurses (remember O'Rhiordan) Loved you ever since x

  • That's a big hit in The year when I was under 10

  • Kate Bush's studio band...

  • This track was my favourite on one of those Top of the Pops records, with a busty blonde on the front. The first record I bought, I think, followed by The Wombles Song!

  • BEST POP MUSIC !! 日本でも大ヒット、BEATLESの後継者

  • I love Youtube to be able to revisit these great old songs. Thanks for posting.

  • A song that has stuck in my mind since the 70's. I probably haven't heard it since then; thinks so much for posting it, the video makes it even better!!!

  • Listen to this every New Years Day! In addition to almost every other day of the year :)

    Here's to 2011

  • reminds me of my shit childhood

  • Replay, replay, replay ... I love the replay button. This song is a classic.

  • Great ! Saw these live on Hastings Pier ! They were a support group for Sparks ! Short time later , this was No 1 !

  • This fabulous song opens a floodgate of memories! I was 9 years old in '75 and I had a crush on a girl in my class called Michelle Goddard. I wonder where she is and what she's doing every time I hear this!

  • Good musicianship, excellent arranging, great melodies and intelligent harmonic structures! Thanks for posting this classic from my childhood. I try to keep an open mind about what they call "popular music" today but I'm afraid it's just disintegrated in to cacophony based on noise. It has very little to do with what I understand good music to be, unfortunately.

  • @THEFCJO " I try to keep an open mind about what they call "popular music" today but I'm afraid it's just disintegrated in to cacophony based on noise."

    Didn't try very hard, obviously.

  • @THEFCJO I know where you're coming from, this music formed my understanding of music. The tune is wrapped up in a whole lot of memories for me that no one else could understand. But times move on. The next generation have to find their own gems.

  • I'm not sick and tired of January *groan

  • Pilot = awewsome

  • wow ! great shit I love pilot

  • was stationed in Germany when this No 1 in Jan 75, great memories.

  • Number 1 back in January 1975 for 10 weeks.

  • @MeBenHalpin what country are u in....I knew it was number 1 in Australia (loved seeing it at the end of Countdown on Sunday nights eating Baked Bean sandwiches lol) but can't remember how many weeks for?

  • @copsafe England mate, i know it was number 1 cos always remember my dad telling me, he brought the single out of weeks pay packet.

  • @copsafe four weeks remember it well

  • @copsafe oh my god me too cop

  • @copsafe it was number 1 for three weeks in the UK from 1st February 1975 (so only a month out). Taken from website: Number Ones

  • @MeBenHalpin yep i remember

  • @vtrman11 Wow what age were you in 75 then mate.

  • there is a very googd song of pilot

  • I fucking LOVE pilot bro

  • I still remember when I was a youth at age 15-16 years old, I was very happy whenever I listened to Pilot's songs like January, Magic, Call me round, Just a smile, Get up and go and etc. Now I'm 49 years old and it's majic to listen to this band's songs again. Feel great! Thanks so much for the post.

  • @MrDerake Its so great that you experienced such great era of music and Pilot, rather than the garbage of the 21st century.

  • 5 people are justin beaver fans

  • This song has something mystical about it. I once dream I was walking in my neighbourhood, and out of nowhere, this song was blaring. I got on a bus and it was still playing, as though it was invading my dream. I woke up, it was morning, and asked my mother had it been playing on the television downstairs? It hadn't. This song rocks!

  • lead singer looks like shaun white lol

  • Super....Skipping down Memory Lane

  • Pilot needs a starcaptain! Me wants to show him how to use starcaptain!

  • David Cassidy's version is better on the vocals....guitar's cool here tho.....

  • @Rockinfemdrum ...thanks for the feedback...actually didn't know David Cassidy did a version so I had a listen....Sorry have to disagree....TERRIBLE - but hey each to their own...Thanks again
