@ratatatpat3 seriously! My mom was a teacher when this video was released and she left it on the couch, and we kids sat and watched it about ten times. Her students were the same way.
@BryB0x attraction to sin is like gravity - we are never fully out of its influence - but the further away we get from the source the less of an effect it has on us. being fully penitent is something we can know in our hearts - but it isnt up for debate.
being afraid of God and ultimately going to hell because of my wrong choices doesnt make my life worse, it makes it easier easier for me to make better and right choices. i am not a sexual diviate and i am not ashamed becuase i know that as aresult of the attonement, i am forgiven and free
i'm watching this video for an open book test. i missed watching this video with my class so my teacher told me i'd have to guess on the answer that talks about this...now i don't! ^_^
this is such a great analogy and movie. it really moved me when we watched it in seminary this morning. now im always thinking of the crocodiles at school and everywhere else. but i was a little shocked when it actually showed the crocs attacking the animals!! i gasped so loudly haha
I saw this at church. Its so true. There are so many things out there that can capture us just like that. What could start off as just a try can become a ever lasting addiction and can drag you down deeper until you drown in it. I'll leave you with this: "There hath no temptation you but such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape that ye may be able to bear it." 1 Cor 10:13.
I was... thank goodness I finally came round... its been a year since ive done anything to do with it and im so proud. Thank Heavenly father for the gospel! :) <3
since you don't mention what it is, i guess its porn. no need to feel ashamed, many people do it. i'm not saying its a good thing but it is very common.
i battled with it for a long time but eventually i decided to leave the church.
porn is fake i agree, but god is more fake. i didn't leave for porn, i left because god doesn't exist. having an addiction to porn made me uncomfortable in the church, which led me to actually think about how ridiculous it is to believe in a great big imaginary friend.
is there any unambiguous evidence that "He" exists??
and i honestly believe that being afraid of god and hell makes your life worse, and makes you more likely to become a sexual deviant. did you know that Utah is the #1 state in porn subscriptions?? its repressed sexual energy that comes out in the wrong way. i personally know many people who have problems with porn and yet it is never discussed and never brought up because its SHAMED to no end.
to be made to feel like a horrible person and hate yourself is much worse than looking at porn.
Evidence that God exists? Look around you! You think that this earth and all the life on it is a coincidence? Are we just born, live, die and that's the end of it? I'd rather have a more optimistic view on life.
As for porn problems, it's cast in a bad light because of what it can lead to. If people can be discouraged from doing something that can potentially damage them permanently, it's better to prevent hurt than have to fix injuries.
I know that shame can keep people from discussing porn problems, but that is because they don't fully understand the repentance process. Self-loathing is not part of the church, it only serves to hamper the process of repentance. Until you can learn to look past your own mistakes, and learn to look to Christ with your problems, you can't repent of that sin. Also, with all of the self-loathing that people feel, it will only get worse if the problem is not dealt with.
calling people "sinners" and they need to "repent" IS shaming. rather than tell people their essential nature is bad, its better to educate and allow people to decide what is moral and what is not. the church tries to control with fear.
my problem became much worse because it was shamed by my experience with the church. everyone is going to run into dirty pictures and the like, it would have been much more manageable if i hadn't been told i was a bad person. that's how i was made to feel.
our existence is not evidence that god exists! you think because we are complicated, organized beings, there must have been a designer. but who is more complex, the creation or the creator? god must be far more complex than the universe he is supposed to have created. you're essentially answering the question of how something as complex as us can come to be by inventing something infinitely more complex.
you're making it worse... and man DID create god, not vice versa.
If you choose not to believe in God, I suppose that's your choice. I have received personal revelation that he exists, and I DO know he exists, and it is testified to me daily through the spirit.
I'm sorry you had such a bad experience in the church, I was never made to feel that way when I was going through my problems. I was always made to feel loved.
The church doesn't try to control, everyone always has their agency. Agency is one of the KEY principles of the church. But everything you do has a consequence, be it good or bad. The church tells you what the consequences will be of your actions, you're still free to choose to do those actions and experience the consequences. If you choose to do pornography, you'll experience the addicting properties and loathing that comes along with it.
of course the church is trying to control people. all religions do. if you don't repent you will be sent to hell. the scriptures are full of threats of punishment and hell. "liars shall be thrust down to hell", "those who are proud... pervert the right ways of the Lord shall be thrust down to hell." etc. etc. why is this in there if not to frighten people so they won't sin?? of course you always have your agency, but this is obviously fear driven behavior control.
and i love the bearing of testimony... classic move. "i have received personal revelation the he exists." this is what happens when you try to prove god's existence through reason... attempted many times always to fail. so inevitably we are forced to fall back on the trump card, " i know god exists!" as if saying it enough times will make it come true.
the bottom line is you don't KNOW. you have a very strong belief, i'm sure, but you don't know. claiming that is arrogant and naive.
@thanman11 you leave the best thing in your life for something that tears you down and never builds you up. Satan designed porn and all that is degrading to do just that but only little by little so that you don't see the trap or as the story of the small animal that needed a ride over a lake and was talked into riding on the back of an alligator. Little by little the alligator forced the small animal closer and closer to his mouth until he was able to eat it with no trouble.
We watched this in seminary like five times.

It's talks like this from the hierarchy of the church that give me a deep appreciation of their wisdom. They truly are God's messengers.
