  • thanks for making this. i will give credit to you if i make a game with it.

oh. by the way. can you make it possible to add tress in it?

  • @Frankyboy440 Thanks. I'm guessing you want to add trees, rather than locks of hair to your landscape? :)

Sorry, the tool doesn't do this, but I'm fairly sure there are other tools that do. We've created one of our own but haven't released it yet. Let me know if you can't find anything else and I'll see if I can give you a beta version.

  • @SixTimesNothing

I tried to find some kind of tree placer but without success can you tell me about the tool that you made?

  • Hmm , i'm gonna try this :)

  • It's funny because his British accent makes terrain sound like train.

  • @AutoOntology Actually I'm Aussie, not British. :P

  • i cant get the terrain show up

  • It does not work with the latest Unity please update

  • @MinecraftSkill You mean the Unity 3.5 developer preview? We're still running 3.4 and it works fine in that. Note that 3.5 is not an official release yet. We will of course support it when it is released.

  • Great tutorial man, thanks a lot.

  • i don't have the terrain tool kit,, where can i get it?

  • @KillerKilburn Umm... link to download is in the description.

  • Your a god !

  • Thank you lots!

  • Looks like you brought Vue to Unity. Congratulations!

  • i cant find the download link to the terrain texture

  • Can i do something for you?

  • OMG THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH

  • Thanks your just too nice

  • @ZathriDArkAssassin No worries!

  • Thanks i get that but.....It's when i press terrain,create terrain,nothing happens,

  • @ZathriDArkAssassin Oh right. It's probably creating the terrain object out of your scene view. Make sure that a terrain object is appearing in the hierarchy window. Then select it and press 'F' to centre it in the scene view.

  • Thanks for your great tutorials,I'm having trouble getting that white flat thing on there, plz help :)

  • @ZathriDArkAssassin By flat white thing did you mean the terrain object? Just go to Terrain > Create Terrain in the top menu. Unless you meant something else – let me know.

  • i dont have terrain toolkit... is it only for pro?

  • @BjarkeDuDe The Terrain Toolkit will work fine with both Unity Free and Pro.

  • @SixTimesNothing no its not there. It is suposed to be right below the camera controls under components! but it is not :( :( :(

  • @BjarkeDuDe Restart Unity if it's not appearing in the menu, or simply drag the TerrainToolkit.cs Component onto the Terrain object.

  • @BjarkeDuDe Restart Unity if it's not appearing in the menu, or simply drag the TerrainToolkit Component onto the Terrain object.

  • Is this about creatinga TRAIn or a TERRAIN ?

  • @emmanuelhenne Umm... it's definitely terrain. We have no plans to create a Train Toolkit, that would be lame. Was this even a serious question? :)

  • @SixTimesNothing I think it sound like you say train instead of terrain

  • @SixTimesNothing hmmm there should be a train toolkit too.. so there can be a huge train driving around on your game destroying anything its pre-set programming sees fitt. =D

  • @SixTimesNothing i'm laughing at the idea at a train toolkit. If there actually was one, i would not be able to take it seriously. "so we have these different train car prefabs here, just drag them into the scene view, and make them a child of the Train object and BAM! theyre automatically lined up and connected. But there's no scenery outside the windows! That's why we have built in movie textures for the windows."

Although that would be fairly amazing... and amusing.

  • @AwesomeOposum Yes! And it would have Thomas the Tank Engine inspired facial animation rigs and it would be full of joy and wonder.

  • Is there a way to scale the textures? I noticed on the demo that the scale of the tiles is very small. I'm having the same issue.

  • @waterskitime You can still scale the textures as you normally would with the Terrain component. In the 'paint terrain textures' tab just select the texture you want to set the scale for and hit 'edit textures', you'll be able to do it from there.

  • You guys are awesome

  • i downloaded the terrain toolkit but where do i extract it so that it shows up when i load up Unity?

  • @Thugmista I extracted mine to the standard packages folder (where Unity is installed) with the other packages. That way you can select it by name from via "Import Package" instead of having to navigate directories with "Import New package".

  • @Jeorney it gives me an error and says it cannot create folder for terrain toolkit and my access is denied

  • @Jeorney and also when i've tried to extract the island demo or anything.i don't know where to extract them i've gotten the cannot create folder error or acces denied.im runnnin a pc 64-bit so my unity is in my program files (x86)

  • @Jeorney I GOT IT NOW LOL thanks

  • good job with this toolkit,.. nice..!

but how do you do plain paths?, let´s say, if i want to do an asphalt road..

    thanks.

  • @digimikeh nevermind.. i was thinking the toolkit is a replacement of the built-in terrain editor, but it is an add-on.. thanks!

  • @digimikeh We have a Road/Path tool that would do what you're asking. There's a tutorial on our channel and you can download the tool free on the Unity Asset Store.

  • Hi! When I press "Create Terrain", it says there is a terrain in my hierarchy tab. Sometimes I can even see it in "game view", but not "scene view". What's wrong?

  • @BodiesEatingDaggers

Below the scene / game tabs there is a line of buttons there are 2 dropdown menu's & 3 small buttons click on the middle one.

  • Can you use JavaScript to control and generate terrain. If yes then please can you make a tutorial or something

    Thanks !

  • @zeeshan595 Yeah, that's a good idea, I just need to find time to make another one. In the meantime a good place to start is to check out the API docs here - sixtimesnothing (dot) com/api-reference/

  • @SixTimesNothing Thanks man that was really helpfull

  • @scaplulus When you add a terrain object it should automatically have a Terrain Collider component. Probably would be a good idea to check that it is still there. Otherwise the issue might be with the Character Controller collider on your 1st person character. Let me know how you go. Hope that helps.

  • you sound like Malcolm McDowell

  • @TheMark5656 Hahahaha really? Now I want to completely redo the tutorial in Clockwork Orange style. That would be awesome!

  • @SixTimesNothing yeah, thats what i was thinking!

  • @scaplulus Ok. Have you been able to install it? It's supplied as a unitypackage file which will install all the necessary scripts and assets into your project when you open (double click) the file.

  • What a horrible terrain... >.<

  • please help me, when i open Unity, the scene is just gray with no grid like in this video. I've tried "create terrain" a billion times, and it never changes anything. It has "terrain" listed under the hierarchy, but NOTHING in the scene changes. It's just BLANK gray. I'm going crazy here. Can somebody help me?

  • i am not getting generate button

  • @yusolaifdfer The only thing I can think of that would cause this is if you have changed the Terrain Toolkit folder structure, or moved the Terrain Toolkit folder into another folder. This might cause it to not be able to find the button image. Let me know if this doesn't help and I'll see what else I can suggest.

  • @SixTimesNothing hey thnx i solved it actually i deleted original folder and imported again as u said may be tht ws the only problem this thing is amazing simply amazing :D thanx to make it free people like you who contribute great things for free are really great keep up the nice work dude :D thnx again

  • This looks awesome :D

  • for a while it was ok, after time the icons are gone.

  • @dranoel1963 Have you resolved this issue? The most likely cause I can think of is if you have changed the Terrain Toolkit folder structure, or moved the Terrain Toolkit folder into another folder. This might cause it to not be able to find the icons.

  • @SixTimesNothing mm no im still working on it

  • But if i want make huge world, what i should do?

  • @purri1000 We have created an additional feature (not released yet though) which can apply Terrain Toolkit filters to much larger terrain datasets and then generate a tiling set of multiple terrain objects that together make up a much larger terrain. We have experienced some issues with Unity 3 though, so it might be a little while before it's in a state that we can release it in. Hopefully not too long though!

  • @SixTimesNothing Thanks for answer :)

  • awe thats cool i need 2 download that

  • Fantastic job on the package.

  • nooo, it dont work in Unity 3.0 properly:(

  • @Grimlock257 You can download an update here: code.google.com/p/unityterraintoolkit/downloads/list

  • @SixTimesNothing Yay!, Thanks a bunch for that, now I dont have to spend like 30 mins trying to a good hill or something, thanks again!

  • @Grimlock257 No worries, glad to hear it's working now.

  • I have the Personal/Commercial version of Unity 3.0, And I do not see any options that say "Component/Terrain/Toolkit". Is it because Im using the free version or what?

  • @ENDORPHINSAM I'm not sure what's causing the issue, but you're not the first person to mention it so I'm trying to look into a solution.

This is the line of code in TerrainToolkit.cs that puts it in the context menus:

    [AddComponentMenu("Terrain/Terrain Toolkit")]

If it isn't working, you can of course simply drag the TerrainToolkit.cs script on to the terrain object in the inspector.

  • Nice. Too bad I have already bought World Machine 2 for this purpose...

  • Great tutorial. I found the toolkit:

    unity3d . com/support/resources/unity-extensions/terrain-toolkit.html

  • @RagnarokTech Unity 2.6 is supported. It sounds like the custom component inspector script (TerrainToolkitEditor.cs) is not getting found. Can you please ensure that this script is inside a folder called 'Editor' and that the file structure and location of the Terrain Toolkit has not been modified. If you're still having problems, send me a PM.

  • This is sick!!!! Thank you so much!!! I love it. I think I am going to make a first person rpg.

  • @collinbxyz Great, thanks for the feedback! It would be awesome to see how you end up using it in your RPG. Good luck with your game!

  • @SixTimesNothing U know what's so ironic??? When I checked my email, I got this message, and a private message on unity forums, asking me to do a job. I think it looks amazing!! Thank you so much. I will sub!

  • when i give the terrain the toolkit component the UI doesnt appear in the inspector, instead it appears just as a normal script does with all the variables etc. It worked fine yesterday though but it just started not working today. I've already tried reimporting it etc

  • Thanks for the terrain tollkit video! :)

    Fun to experiment with.

  • @DevilsSpawn93 Are you sure the toolkit is correctly installed into your project? Did you either use Assets > Import Package... or double click the unitypackage to install it. Can you please check that the "TerrainToolkit" folder exists in your Project window?

  • very helpful tutorial, thanks for posting it

  • @Scape4Death I don't really understand your question. This add-on doesn't require Internet activation of any kind, only Unity does. If it is a problem with Unity then you need to contact Unity support. Or do you mean that the web page with the manual wasn't working? We had to fix the server a few days ago – if that was your problem it should be fine now.

  • @SixTimesNothing Oh No Its Alraidy Fixed.

But can you show me with a video Or Explain Me How I Make A flour?

  • @Scape4Death You mean a floor? You could do this with either a plane object – GameObject > Create Other Object > Plane or you could use the terrain brush tools to flatten an area of the terrain.

  • @SixTimesNothing

Oh Yes I Did It But When I click play Then i see blue screen?

    I Did the position:

    X : 0

    Y : 0

    Z : 0

Then i see a blue screen and little black in the helft.

  • @Scape4Death Actually it sounds like you're under the terrain, you need to move the camera or player object up (on the y-axis).

  • @SixTimesNothing How i change a player?

Becouse i setted My Terrian to O,O,O And my camera o,o,o

  • awesome

  • Hey man i loved this video, very helpful. is there any way you can help me?

im currently making a game that is veeery large. and i need about 20 of these terrains. but my problem is that i dont know how to blend the terrains into eachother so the player can walk smoothly onto each one, can you PLEASE help>?

  • I love recent videos that help! Thanks! :D

  • Simply amazing, thanks!

  • I imported the Terrain Toolkit, but when I go to components, and click on terrain toolkit it is grayed out! Please help!

  • @1WrAtHoFgEcKoS1 You must have a Terrain object selected in the editor to add the Terrain Toolkit component to it. If this is not the issue you are experiencing, please send me a message. Hope this helps.

  • @SixTimesNothing yes thanks I just realized that when you posted back! Nice quick post man thanks :D

  • @1WrAtHoFgEcKoS1 Great, glad to hear you got it working. Hope you find the toolkit useful in your project!

  • Hi I imported the toolkit but when I go to component and try to add the toolkit it is grayed out can you help?

  • Ok...when I click generate voronoi features, the terrain map disappears in my scene view. Whats causing this?

  • Very nice job on this terrain tool. I'm a newb at Unity but this tool was easy to use and install (just double click after launch of your project). Have you used Cryengine 2 before? I'm hoping you'll add to this tool the Sandbox2 type brush to allow custom add/remove terrain to help create areas better suited for whatever... anyway what you've done here is really outstanding.

  • the guy who made this tool is a genious

  • thanks for the toolkit and video now time to play with them :)

  • Now show us how to get a small river with a waterfall and some basic paths into this terrain, please.

  • i dont know whats happening but it doesn't find the terrain toolkit component for me. how did you import it. plz help

  • @LadiesXMan217 Have you imported the Terrain Toolkit Unity package into your Unity project? You can do this either by double-clicking on the Unity package after unzipping it, or from Unity go to Assets > Import Package... and select the Terrain Toolkit package.

  • @SixTimesNothing i did so

  • @SixTimesNothing what folder is the terrain tool kit in? I dont see it anywhere

  • This is really fantastic mate! The lack of decent terrain tools was one of Unity's few flaws, IMO.

    Plus, Australia ftw! :D

  • Awesome tool! Congratulations :)

  • Nice work, looks great!

  • ok, thank you and compliments for your job

  • hi, this tool is very intresting, but how can I download it? I tried many times, but the unity link about Terrain Toolkit is broken!!!

  • @bozvaly84 Yeah, sorry. The link is still broken from when the page was launched last Friday. The guys at Unity have promised that it will be fixed as soon as possible.
