im from Zimbabwe and the truth is elephants are destructive and very dangerous, this is because there is now an over population of elephants. such that they need to be culled from time to time so its okay for them to be hunted, i dont see what all the fuss is about. elephants are very far from being endangered in Zimbabwe.
@jende64 Elephants are on the CITES Endangered list appendix 1 in all countries except Namibia,botswana,South Africa and Zimbabwe. there they are on appendix 2 , which allows only sustainable hunting in line with population figures,and permits are issued by those countries...but of course population isnt done by census.so big margins for error,and this is mentioned in Appendix 2
Also a fact that All these countries hold stocks of ivory...which they want Cites to allow them to sell.

People can't seem to understand that simply preventing the elephants from attcaking the crops is not enough, that their OVERPOPULATION needs to be addressed. People have no idea that the entire national parks ministry in Zimbabwe relies on money made from commercial hunting in select hunting zones and that it is strictly monitored to ensure no negative effects on animal populations. That without this money the animals in the national parks would have no protection.

The elephants may not be the reason they're starving, but when it eats their crops it sure doesn't help them. I'd like more information on the "alternative methods", although I can say right now that if he had not killed the elephant those people couldn't have used it's hide. Game hunting may be a cruel and vicious sport, but that's not to say that in situations like this it doesn't have positive effects. I know if I saw an elephant eating poor Africans' crops, I'd shoot it.
@handsockpuppet well, some people argue that Fences wont stop massive rogue Elephants, but they are intellegant animals and can learn quite easy, i rekon sturdy electric fences and they would get the drift, night watchers to shoot flares or shotguns with blanks, scare them enough im sure they would learn not to come back, build some deep trenches wide enough that they cant step over could possibly hold them back, and maby these ideas wont be 100% effective, but neither is killing them
@KraZynessKinGZ in my area we have tried various methods. at first chilli powder+used oil on sisal ropes worked like magic the first few times but now they are used to it.elephants dont care about sturdy fences.they weigh 6tonnes & knockdown large trees and brick& cement houses.we tried burning their own dung,blasting chilli bullets, blank bullets, making loud noises. they dont care anymore.trenches will hurt young elephants.many fall in latrines and its just sad to watch.culling is the answer.

I don't judge this man, people seeing this actions from outside might see this as an inhuman and cruel action, but only when you feel the starvation walking through the desert miles to get to a source of food, shoeless and on top of that competing with a bunch of hungry people in the same situation than you it makes you think twice.

im from Zimbabwe and the truth is elephants are destructive and very dangerous, this is because there is now an over population of elephants. such that they need to be culled from time to time so its okay for them to be hunted, i dont see what all the fuss is about. elephants are very far from being endangered in Zimbabwe.

@jende64 Elephants are on the CITES Endangered list appendix 1 in all countries except Namibia,botswana,South Africa and Zimbabwe. there they are on appendix 2 , which allows only sustainable hunting in line with population figures,and permits are issued by those countries...but of course population isnt done by census.so big margins for error,and this is mentioned in Appendix 2
Also a fact that All these countries hold stocks of ivory...which they want Cites to allow them to sell.

@aetos010 elephants are listed as vulnerable not endangered okey. there's a difference. northern botswana stretching into zimbabwe has nearly 100 000 elephants, the largest population in the world. compare that to less that 5000 tigers in the wild worldwide. despite elephant populations exploding, PETA still presents you with data from 1978 and you swallow it. hoards of elephants have been raiding my village with increasing frequency so dont tell me there arent enough of these beasts

People can't seem to understand that simply preventing the elephants from attcaking the crops is not enough, that their OVERPOPULATION needs to be addressed. People have no idea that the entire national parks ministry in Zimbabwe relies on money made from commercial hunting in select hunting zones and that it is strictly monitored to ensure no negative effects on animal populations. That without this money the animals in the national parks would have no protection.

Am I the only one here who cares more about starving African communities than A FREAKIN ELEPHANT!? The elephant destroys crops, you can see in that video the community planning with him and then taking the useful parts of the dead game. You PETA freaks make me sick, it's not that you simply value animals as humans, in most cases you're valuing animals ABOVE humans. If the elephant were a human he'd be put in jail for stealing, so why should he be more important than the poor, starving farmers?

They're smarter than the average mouse, they can feel basic emotions, but fuck, if their whole species goes extinct they don't know what's happening. Human beings are way more intelligent, so I would say their lives are more important. You judge lives too, unless you don't eat vegetables because plants are living creatures.

The elephants may not be the reason they're starving, but when it eats their crops it sure doesn't help them. I'd like more information on the "alternative methods", although I can say right now that if he had not killed the elephant those people couldn't have used it's hide. Game hunting may be a cruel and vicious sport, but that's not to say that in situations like this it doesn't have positive effects. I know if I saw an elephant eating poor Africans' crops, I'd shoot it.

@handsockpuppet well, some people argue that Fences wont stop massive rogue Elephants, but they are intellegant animals and can learn quite easy, i rekon sturdy electric fences and they would get the drift, night watchers to shoot flares or shotguns with blanks, scare them enough im sure they would learn not to come back, build some deep trenches wide enough that they cant step over could possibly hold them back, and maby these ideas wont be 100% effective, but neither is killing them

@KraZynessKinGZ in my area we have tried various methods. at first chilli powder+used oil on sisal ropes worked like magic the first few times but now they are used to it.elephants dont care about sturdy fences.they weigh 6tonnes & knockdown large trees and brick& cement houses.we tried burning their own dung,blasting chilli bullets, blank bullets, making loud noises. they dont care anymore.trenches will hurt young elephants.many fall in latrines and its just sad to watch.culling is the answer.

Why doesn't Parsons just use some of his millions to feed the poor and put up fences to keep the elephants away from the crops in the first place? But killing one elephant won't do anything.
