@MacOSXMason Well,as you'd told it is "faster" then a lot of "petrol powered cars".However,it's a competition for the cars which has a price tag close to 335 and has this much power, for me.Speaking of diesel engines, for me it's absolutely pointless producing diesel-powered performance car, because diesel engines produced for torque and of course propulsive power.
@dog1ac Actually i've driven both the 335i and the 335d and there is hardly much difference. I think the point of having one is that you get the 335i performance but 20-30 mpg more.
These 335 diesels are impressive...my rx8 r3 goes about as fast from 0-60 as this and this guy is probably getting double the economy.....shame the brand new ones cost minimum of £45,000 .... ridiculously expensive ..... but thats the price you ultimately pay to get economy and speed...
@robbie1490 Well that's interesting because it doesn't happen in my 530xd or my friend's X6 35d or in any other videos here on Youtube where the audio is in sync.
@EdwardSinclair I have this argument with people all the time. I drive an 06 Jetta TDI and they always balk when I tell them it runs on diesel. I always here..."well diesel is 25 cents more, that doesn't make sense" Then I tell them I typically get around 550-590 miles in mixed driving and over 700 on a full highway tank. That's when their jaws drop lol.
Looks like right about 7 sec. A bit under, I'd say, but not under 6 sec. Run starts @ 02 sec and hits 60 at 09 sec. But I bet that around town the torque makes it feel as good as a 335i for real-world usable power. In Florida, I've seen diesel consistently higher than premium, sometimes 60-80 cents more. Should always be less - less refining needed. Oil companies soak us.
@aaaaachtung it's because diesel engines are heavily used by really large vehicles, specifically suv's, pick-up trucks, big rigs, fire engines, school buses, tour buses, motor homes, etc., plus the price of diesel tends to be much higher than gasoline, not to mention the fact that diesel vehicles are much more expensive than gasoline vehicles
im so sick of these "acceleration showings". why you all go from 0 to around 80 and then you stop accelerating?? please just let the pedal pressed!!! whats the fucking problem with that?
That car is so fast, I have a 328i Sport, and it is quick, it had to go into the shop and I got your car for the rental, oh man it was like the old 335i with twin turbo engine. Post more videos, very nice car.

JB Tuned 335D 0-60 in 4.7 seconds and 13.1 in the 1/4 mile. Even in stock form the 0-60 is 5.2-5.4 seconds starting in second gear. Faster than a stock 335i!!!!
Check out a guy on here called hotrod182. He had the video of the 335D doing the 0-60 mph run's. He even owns a 335i and say's the tuned 335D is faster than a stock 335i.
i have got a new 535d f10 i was thinking what to buy 550i or 535d but i ended with 535d Reason why : With 535d i can go 200km/h all day with consuption of only 10l/100km with 550i it would be 25l/100 so i can go duoble a distance more than petrol car go at the same top speed but use more fuel and my range is duoble that i choose diesel !
so funny to read some of the comments about mpg here. diesels are decent but, they get their power from compression and just like any other piston engine, if you put down lots of power, they too, will break prematurely. Mpg is better due to higher compression that is available due to slower burning fuel....aka.... no knocking. whether gas or diesel, power and driving habits determine longevity.
It is amazing how Americans still cling to so many disinformation regarding Diesels. Modern Diesel cars are not loud, they are not moving coal plants and have tons of power. A study was conducted about a year ago with the Jetta gas and diesel version. They debadged the car and had people driving them. Most people could not tell the difference between the 2, it was a coin toss.
Diesel cars are the best car technology available with more than 40 yrs proven in Europe. Great mpg and reliability.
@goma3 the problem is that diesel fuel is heavily used by semi-trucks and other types of big-heavy vehicles that uses diesel engines, causing diesel fuel to be more expensive than gasoline
@chpman2013 Yep. I dont remember seeing a petrol BMW / Mercedes / Audi for a looooong long time in my country, with exeption of M's, AMG's and RS's. Same with all other manufacturers. I'd say that about 80% of new cars sold in europe are diesels.
@derbigpr500 damn, that's a lot of diesels...not many people here in the U.S. are that crazy for diesels, although diesels may have to be looked at closely since we got CAFE measures comin' in a few years
We have a 2009 330d, doesn't sound like a Diesel at all the 6 Cylinder BMW's! Fabulous car and fabulous engine. Even though you do have a second turbo in the 35.... ;)
That's very impressive for a car with such excellent mpg ... I still prefer the "feel" and higher revving nature of the 135i/335i. If all goes well, I think my next car is going to be a 135i... Although after doing some reading, a 335d is making me think twice.
I don't get it. People in Europe hate diesel engines because they are everywhere. People here in the States wish they could get small cars with diesels because they're economical, and you can run them on veggie oil.
@mgospeed31 True boss... we demand more clean diesels here in the U.S., they make faaaaaaaaaaR better mpgs than most or any hybrids in that respect. just for a fact, a BMW 320d makes about 50-52 US MPG on combined cycle. bring it here!
I admit that these modern turbocharged diesel engines have bad ass torque and their fuel consumption is also very good, but still prefer gasoline...I'd buy a 335i coupe or a 535i limousine. They're both turbocharged (same engine I guess) so their torque curve is like the Scottish upland (very high, very flat) and they rev to about 7,000rpm so they have the horsepowers as well (306hp). Not to mention their sound...With a proper gearbox (I mean manual) they feel so sporty. Btw I own a 528i (e39)
Compare this jewel to the DIESEL DIARRHEA that General Motors put in their sedans in the 1980's....... No wonder most Americans are still skeptical of diesel cars. Hopefully we will get the message to the masses soon. :-)
its not obvious. Not to some who bank on the fact that diesel engines make a shitload of torque compared to gas engines. And your "diesel fanboy" title is written in your sardonic manner and bitter attitude towards the idea that the 335d isnt as hot shit as you think it is.
I believe the non diesel version of the 335i is faster. According to this video the diesel does it about in 6 seconds. The 335i does it in about 5.3 ish area. I believe, because I know the 335i is faster than a G37/G35 sedan, and that car does it in about 5.5
They weren't trying to make this one faster.. They were just trying to make a fuel efficient BMW that was still pretty quick. I think they accomplished their goal!
yea you might like a srt4 for the track but keep in mind that is what you are getting. With american cars, there is always a compromise. Either you get the performance, or you get the affordability.
A bmw is a luxury car that has performance, reliability, quality, more technology features and looks better than a srt4 imo. And trust me, i dont like bmw. Im a merc guy.
Just took delivery of a 335d as a perfect car to do a long, mainly highway, commute. I also own an E92 M3. Yes, I know there's lots of B/S posters on youtube so take my comments w/ a grain of salt if you prefer. My take is that the 'd''s a perfect all-rounder: linear power and I'm loving the 31-36 mpg. It's no M - brakes and suspension seem most obvious. The 'd; provides facile power. 80 mph is around 2k rpm vs over ~3.5k for the M3. By comparison the M feels 'buzzy' - for w/end fun!
Well I agree with you guys, BUT here is the thing: If you live in Europe fuel economy is a big deal. Gas is really expensive so you just wouldn't want to drive a five liter v8 over here. If you want to enjoy power and don't want to spend a lot on fuel turbodiesel is for you.
yeah there is no doubt that the car has power i think this diesel puts out around 265 or so hp whitch is a lot for a small car but the price is the only barrier although for five years all repars are free so it basicaly pays for its self but still 40,000 $ i'd rather buy a neon srt4 or a cobalt ss for 17,000$ and get around the same performence although i would'nt get as much luxury features
BMWs are really good on a circut because of their handaling abilities however strait line performence is a little limited its different ways of thinking Europeans want cars that handle well for the auto bahn and americans crave power this is just a generalzation so generaly a car like a camaro (depending on the type of BMW will beat it in a strait line but when it comes to circut racing will lose
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
shitty quality? The only thing that makes the camaro semi bad is its weight but that depends on taste BMW are over priced and they get rapped by cadilacks for thousands less American muscle for the win ass hole
That is also the reason why I am about to buy a 335i, to have as much fun as possible and I could care less about mpg personally. But again if I had to do a lot of travelling than the 335d would be my top choice for sure.
There are a lot more engine tuning options for the 335i (why stop with what the manufacturer give you) for one. Secondly everybody likes the torque but as I said before the revband is too small for my likings and the 335i's 300lb/ft torque (more than 440 when tuned) is spread almost across the whole revband. But again 286hp (euro) is fantastic for a diesel passenger car if you have to cover a lot of miles dont' get me wrong on that one.
I have recently testdriven a 335i DKG and it was great fun, love the sound, drove fairly hard and got 14L/100km which is really good compared to an Impreza STi. Did not testdrove the 335d to compare. Maybe later but 2000rpm diesel revband is quite small, its too quite and it is really smelly. And I just love to rev to nearly redline :) As a fast commuter the 335d is not bad but as a performance car I prefer gasoline
Yes I do mean the newer Benzes and BMWs. Has something to do with the filters in the exhaust, not the diesel itself. Drive behind one and I promise you you will notice it. I did not mean that you can smell it from inside your own diesel powered car, perhaps maybe in a closed environment like underground parking lot. Not sure about that tho... Thing is burned gasoline smells ten times better :) My wife drives a Focus TDCi, the torque is helpfull but I know what i would choose.
I've asked folks if they noticed any exhaust smell from the current US-spec BMW 335d, Audi Q7 TDI, and VW Jetta TDI (which meet the Tier 2 Bin 5 standard). Not one layman has said yes. I can detect an aroma at certain times, but it's quite faint and not like the old diesel, whatsoever. It can't be qualified as "really smelly" ... :)
I'll have a check on those cars around town also as soon as possible and will post my honest opinion. it could be that the new filters are a lot better but I have my doubts. But it would mean improvement from just last year models or so. I work at home now so dont do as much traffic lately, about 3k miles a year.
@mpgomatic When I test drove a 335d, I thought the exhaust smelled like you were standing next to a freshly chlorinated pool. A really nice change from the old days.
I just traded a 335i for a 335d. All it took was one test drive. 425lb/ft of torque and 35+mpg highway. As a car enthusiast, this ranks as one of BMW's best engines ever. Go drive one. You won't be a diesel hater...believe me.
I don't understand why you americans are so reluctant to go diesel. We've been doing it for years and now 70% of all new cars sold in Europe are diesels. Just over 10 years ago diesel engines were dirty, noisy and unrefined, but no longer.
Please don't throw all Americans in one basket. The truth has been withheld by big-oil controlled mass media. After a long wait, clean diesels are finally here and the Volkswagen Jetta TDIs are selling quite well.
I've been WAITING for diesel engines like this BEAUTY for YEARS!! There's too much damn bureaucracy in the US, thats why it took so long.. Finally its here!
iv driven the x5 with this motor, it was nice but nothing beats the the mechanical growl of a gas powered motor. Especially if you compare it to bmw's own i6.
wow u really havent driven one and you say its as good as a bus???? thats like saying nasa is now old school because they started over 50 yrs. ago! arent i right folks?

ND4SPD16Y8 1 year ago
you a sarcastic one arent you... I was simply stating a fact, you dont have to get all butt hurt diesel fanboy.
NehpetsK57 1 year ago
right...a rather obvious fact...and where is it written that im a "diesel fanboy" sparkplug?
ND4SPD16Y8 1 year ago
its not obvious. Not to some who bank on the fact that diesel engines make a shitload of torque compared to gas engines. And your "diesel fanboy" title is written in your sardonic manner and bitter attitude towards the idea that the 335d isnt as hot shit as you think it is.
NehpetsK57 1 year ago
@NehpetsK57 you probably aren't as hot shit as you think you are
djderk 1 year ago
I dont think im shit. So, yes I agree with you.

guys if you got a lot of passengers the 335d will climb a steep hill better than the 335i right?

Awesome fast diesel car !! Bmw are wonderfull cars!!
arielrodrigo1 2 years ago 56
@arielrodrigo1 ya just below mercedes
andrew190e 1 year ago
I believe the non diesel version of the 335i is faster. According to this video the diesel does it about in 6 seconds. The 335i does it in about 5.3 ish area. I believe, because I know the 335i is faster than a G37/G35 sedan, and that car does it in about 5.5
NigguhJason 2 years ago
They weren't trying to make this one faster.. They were just trying to make a fuel efficient BMW that was still pretty quick. I think they accomplished their goal!
parsley0120 2 years ago 4
non diesel version of the 335i ?
it's either 335i or 335d as simple as that ...
MrSosa 1 year ago
yea you might like a srt4 for the track but keep in mind that is what you are getting.

By comparison the M feels 'buzzy' - for w/end fun!
bimmer540iT 2 years ago 4
WOW amazing! pretty fast for a diesal
skinnbone260 2 years ago
Well I agree with you guys, BUT here is the thing: If you live in Europe fuel economy is a big deal. Gas is really expensive so you just wouldn't want to drive a five liter v8 over here. If you want to enjoy power and don't want to spend a lot on fuel turbodiesel is for you.
jhs277 2 years ago 4
i concur
atgskater14 2 years ago
yeah there is no doubt that the car has power i think this diesel puts out around 265 or so hp whitch is a lot for a small car but the price is the only barrier although for five years all repars are free so it basicaly pays for its self but still 40,000 $ i'd rather buy a neon srt4 or a cobalt ss for 17,000$ and get around the same performence although i would'nt get as much luxury features
atgskater14 2 years ago
BMWs are really good on a circut because of their handaling abilities however strait line performence is a little limited its different ways of thinking Europeans want cars that handle well for the auto bahn and americans crave power this is just a generalzation so generaly a car like a camaro (depending on the type of BMW will beat it in a strait line but when it comes to circut racing will lose
atgskater14 2 years ago
lol Europeans want cars that handle well for the autobahn??
vipeme1 2 years ago
so you don't want that, right?
m1rchegfn 2 years ago
someone said that. They wanted a good handling car for the autobahn. that's like me saying i need to run nitrous for the autocross
vipeme1 2 years ago
@vipeme1 hahahahaa who the fuck said that? idiots its a fuckin straight line lol
mayweatherrulz 2 years ago
This comment has received too many negative votes show
shitty quality? The only thing that makes the camaro semi bad is its weight but that depends on taste BMW are over priced and they get rapped by cadilacks for thousands less American muscle for the win ass hole
atgskater14 2 years ago
2010 camaro V8 0-60 4.8 seconds and is 33,000 can someone post the price of this beamer

@cessnaid I just bought a 2011 335d, your right it doesnt sound like a diesel, but it does sound awesome in the drivers seat ;)
sims5677 1 year ago
@sims5677 oh i bet you should do a vid on it ^^
cessnaid 1 year ago
@cessnaid It`s a diesel.right gauge is limited to 5000 RPM(diesel). If it was a gasoline engine it would be limited cu 6000-7000 RPM.

That is also the reason why I am about to buy a 335i, to have as much fun as possible and I could care less about mpg personally. But again if I had to do a lot of travelling than the 335d would be my top choice for sure.
montini007 2 years ago
Well, you're forgetting that though the 335i has 40 more horsepower that the 335d, the D has over 100 more ft/lbs of torque.
And, hoenstly, it's quite a bit easier and there are alot more opportunities to use torque than horsepower.
supastaa88 2 years ago 6
There are a lot more engine tuning options for the 335i (why stop with what the manufacturer give you) for one. Secondly everybody likes the torque but as I said before the revband is too small for my likings and the 335i's 300lb/ft torque (more than 440 when tuned) is spread almost across the whole revband. But again 286hp (euro) is fantastic for a diesel passenger car if you have to cover a lot of miles dont' get me wrong on that one.
montini007 2 years ago
True, true.
Still, I'm not a guy that heavily mods my daily drivers anyways. So I guess it just appeals to me a tiny bit more than the i.
supastaa88 2 years ago
I have recently testdriven a 335i DKG and it was great fun, love the sound, drove fairly hard and got 14L/100km which is really good compared to an Impreza STi. Did not testdrove the 335d to compare. Maybe later but 2000rpm diesel revband is quite small, its too quite and it is really smelly. And I just love to rev to nearly redline :) As a fast commuter the 335d is not bad but as a performance car I prefer gasoline
montini007 2 years ago
Really smelly? We're talking about clean diesel. Not the old diesel.
mpgomatic 2 years ago 4
Yes I do mean the newer Benzes and BMWs. Has something to do with the filters in the exhaust, not the diesel itself. Drive behind one and I promise you you will notice it. I did not mean that you can smell it from inside your own diesel powered car, perhaps maybe in a closed environment like underground parking lot. Not sure about that tho... Thing is burned gasoline smells ten times better :) My wife drives a Focus TDCi, the torque is helpfull but I know what i would choose.
montini007 2 years ago
I've asked folks if they noticed any exhaust smell from the current US-spec BMW 335d, Audi Q7 TDI, and VW Jetta TDI (which meet the Tier 2 Bin 5 standard). Not one layman has said yes. I can detect an aroma at certain times, but it's quite faint and not like the old diesel, whatsoever. It can't be qualified as "really smelly" ... :)
mpgomatic 2 years ago 3
I'll have a check on those cars around town also as soon as possible and will post my honest opinion. it could be that the new filters are a lot better but I have my doubts. But it would mean improvement from just last year models or so. I work at home now so dont do as much traffic lately, about 3k miles a year.
montini007 2 years ago
@mpgomatic
Diesel is better for enviroment
kenneykole 1 year ago
@mpgomatic When I test drove a 335d, I thought the exhaust smelled like you were standing next to a freshly chlorinated pool. A really nice change from the old days.
areitu 1 year ago 2
@montini007 I know what you mean. Smells like propane gas! The smell comes from the diesel particle filter which is law in Europe
mcs83bo 1 year ago
I just traded a 335i for a 335d. All it took was one test drive. 425lb/ft of torque and 35+mpg highway. As a car enthusiast, this ranks as one of BMW's best engines ever. Go drive one. You won't be a diesel hater...believe me.
PJPHughes 2 years ago
Whats the hp rating for the diesel? 230 or so?
VitaminE6SS 2 years ago
265hp, 425 lb/ft of torque for the 335d US Spec.
300hp, 300 lb/ft of torque for the 335i.
My 335i convertible gets no more than 14mpg around town. And that's with a light foot. It's a great engine, but it's a very thirsty one.
PJPHughes 2 years ago 4
Damn, thats really high hp for a diesel! I would take it over a i with those numbers! But you could mod the i easier than the d.
VitaminE6SS 2 years ago
I don't understand why you americans are so reluctant to go diesel. We've been doing it for years and now 70% of all new cars sold in Europe are diesels. Just over 10 years ago diesel engines were dirty, noisy and unrefined, but no longer.
ricardocarey 2 years ago
Please don't throw all Americans in one basket. The truth has been withheld by big-oil controlled mass media. After a long wait, clean diesels are finally here and the Volkswagen Jetta TDIs are selling quite well.
mpgomatic 2 years ago
I've been WAITING for diesel engines like this BEAUTY for YEARS!! There's too much damn bureaucracy in the US, thats why it took so long.. Finally its here!
eclansky 2 years ago 2
because diesels are about as inspiring as riding the bus.
ilovenissan 2 years ago
Take a ride in a 335d and you just might change your opinion ... :)
mpgomatic 2 years ago
iv driven the x5 with this motor, it was nice but nothing beats the the mechanical growl of a gas powered motor. Especially if you compare it to bmw's own i6.

@ilovenissan Bus is totally different than a car.
Bus does not burn clean but this one burn clean.
I have a 2008 FOrd 350 powerstroke V8 - burn clean diesel and it did not smell like bus it lottt better.
Also, diesel is better for enviroment.
kenneykole 1 year ago
@ilovenissan
wow u really havent driven one and you say its as good as a bus???? thats like saying nasa is now old school because they started over 50 yrs. ago! arent i right folks?
