This musical was such a refreshing non-judgmental piece for me in 1973...we performed it at church with the help of a great youth pastor and the best musicians ever...did the congregation respond??? Not right away, but I'd like to hope they felt the impact at some point in their lives...after watching this I remembered the filming at the as yet un-finished Twin Towers...how poignant...
@ArcticStarbrook true christians are "the best", also the song means that all the challenges in life are for the best, learning experiences and help you strengthen your faith in God, let you know you can withstand the pressure of the world and of evil works.
You may lose money, power, social standing, and even good health, but God will always be there when that happens. Losing it all really is all for the best. :-)
I'm not sure ppl are getting the " meaning" of the song, and where it was filmed, " all for the best".. some ppl make " mountains of money" have the best of everything... and it is filmed in the heart of the financial district .. and not far from where it was filmed is the poorest of poor.. that being said... I do tear up at the end
Check out my daughter's video @ GodSpell - Bless the Lord My Soul - Samantha Marie Migneault . For some reason I'm not able to attach her video here as a response. Thanks
I'm not a religious person at all, but there is something about this movie that I love! It's like a hippie side to being religious, thats the only reason I watch it. And when I was younger I'd watch it too. Im only 17 now, but I love this music. haha
14 people need to reevaluate their taste in music and acting. That's it. No funny joke, no playon words or content found within the movie, just a simple adjustment of opinion.
@WyrdDarcnyzz I don't really think they are saying it's the most amazing thing, They just like the music and probably the play fullness of the music. It's such a hippie play. Unless I'm misunderstanding what your saying.
Why would they change the two towers... I know it is a very painful thing for some people still but this movie all represents peace and love... and if you analyize what happend 9/11.. its exact oppisite of this movie so this is "before."
The UNT theatre troupe showed a modernized version of this. The original is so amazing, but the college group did a fantastic job of updating it to today's pop culture. I wish they had recorded it.
The end of this tune - the song's message juxtaposed against the cast's physical location is so ironically poignant, it made me suddenly burst into tears.
When they made this, they had no idea what a powerful statement ending it with the World Trade Center would be. But it is. A very, very powerful statement. It's ALL for the best. ALL of it.
@gormley14413 Yes. When I watched this for the 1st time in 25 yrs & saw this scene, my heart practically stopped--the utter...what...irony? at seeing this HAPPY, silly, chirpy song being sung atop...the World Trade Center. There's no word that fits to describe the stunning juxtaposition given the hindsight of history. Maybe there's something deeply spiritual to learn there, but it leaves me speechless.
John the Baptizer and Jesus are in one in this musical accounting the Gospel Of Matthew and tracin' the Twin Towers home of the Port Authority is seen and headlined in this movie all influenced Jesus Christ rather than the Watergate scandal drama being played out elsewhere. This movie is good for tracin' at the top of South Tower.
@nikkivwhiting The first time I noticed the Twin Towers, I thought that with the words of this song, it's kind of prophetic. Most of the song lyrics are from the Episcopal Church Hymnal, with new tunes. When we sing them in church I can't help but crack a smile.
Still one of my favourite songs from one of my all-time-favourite films!! It's always poignant to see this and remember that, at the very end, they are at the top of the World Trade Centre towers!
notice when the guy said "someone's got to be oppressed" and he points down to the building they're standing on...the twin towers...hmm? hmm? mysterious eh??
We have just started music rehearsals for this show coming this spring...I am SO fortunate to have been cast as John the Baptist / Judas, and I cannot WAIT to sing this song! I am honored to get to pay homage to David Haskell !!! And I get to sing "On the Willows" and am just absolutely beyond excited to do this show! Anybody in Iowa in March 2011, please stop in to see us!!! Newton Community Theatre
@BelfastBailey You are in for a wonderful time!! The smaller, community theater productions are the best because you can interact so much with the audience-lots of fun to get up close, sit in their laps(briefly!) etc. Have your director make SURE the cast is well-rehearsed and accurate on all the vocal arrangements- the harmonies and dynamics of the vocals are CRITICAL in this play 'cuz it's a small cast and no pit orchestra. There's no place to hide for a poor vocalist! That said, have a blast!
@freedumb2003 I also had "a moment" when I noticed that. I grinned from ear to ear to see the towers, but then had quite a somber moment of reflection. I was actually fortunate enough to fly out of Newark, NJ when I went to Ireland in November 2000...I got video of the twin towers on my return flight and am so happy I did...they came down 10 months later. Unbelievable to this day! It ROCKS they used the towers in this terrific scene!
@iAlexis3 Somethings are better left alone. Besides, they'd have to change at least one of the locations. The final location in this song scene unfortunately.
@iAlexis3 Its a great movie, no need tor remake it. Most remakes are a real dissapointment, The Absent Minded Professor (Flubber), 12 Angrey Men, The Parent Trap, None of the remakes came close to the origional
Of course the old digital clock in Times Square or wherever, is at 11:29 and something, when they dance on top of it. Beautiful to see the WTC at 5:00 minutes in.
After this movie, this was one of my favorite scenes. Long Live the World Trade Center. My favorite songs are Prepare ye the way of the lord, bless the lord and day by day.
The twin towers arent complete yet. The observation deck rails arent in yet, the South Tower still has support beams, and the North Tower is still missing its needle.
