What we need to do is force out the next generation. We need to tell Microsoft and Sony and Nintendo we're sick of it. This generation has already exceeded they life of the original Xbox and the Gamecube/N64 by a year. When you think about it, this motion war is just their way of delaying us. They know gamers don't want to spend extra money right now but we've already reached the limits of this hardware. They can try to optimize as much as they want but things aren't going to get much better.
My last graphics card was an ATI Radeon 3650 HD. It was capable of maxing out Gears of War on PC it was a mid range card from around 3 years ago. My girlfriend still uses an nVidia 7950 GT from about 4 years ago it still maxes out Left4Dead and Bioshock for her, which are her main games. In fact, you can run a lot of todays games on integrated graphics, which is just amazing. The sad thing is those integrated GPUs are about as powerful as the 360. You could make an equivalent PC for $200-300.
there were a few games that weren't required to use these settings, but they were all AAA titles and they let them blur the lines a bit for the overall experience. games like CoD 4, Halo 3, and Gears of War couldn't even run at microsoft's requirements so they let them drop AA or lower the resolution. by 2006 the xbox already hit it's limits. now it's just a race to the bottom, see how good a game can look without dropping frames on old hardware. while PC gamers crank up res and AA with no lag.
plus the fact that PCs CAN be upgraded is a huge advantage. can you upgrade a console? no? so why bitch about upgrading a PC. there hasn't been any new game challenging PC power in three years now. do you know why? developers are afraid of piracy so they wont make PC exclusives. so they have to make it for consoles too. did you know that microsoft required all games to run at 720p with 2x AA and mid-high settings? how are you supposed to scale that to 5 year old hardware and still push limits?

About six months after 360 was released we started seeing the first quad core Phenoms and 2900 XTs, which is a decent amount more powerful than the 360.

Far cry was made 2004 and was amazing back then, Instinct was made 2005 using same engine but was so much improved, like comparing CoD2 to CoD WaW or MW2

I have seen a fair amount of these pc comparisons. First and foremost those games were released something like 3 years apart thats like comparing Halo 1 to Doom 3. I have a 360, afterwrads i bought an HDTV, which was 1200, 2 controllers for 60 ea, rechargable battery packs, 120 gb HDD, after tallying up the cost to get the most out of my 360 i paid close to 2 grand, my current gaming PC was around 6-700 range, so dont bitch about cost, to get the best its expensive either way.

You fail to realize consoles are DEDICATED gaming CONSOLES (like the name implies). They are designed SOLEY for games and future games at stock. PC's are upgradable (why? because they weren't immediately designed for that purpose). A developer CAN easily and efficiently opitimize CONSOLE games better since they only need to optimize it for ONE set of common hardware (since ALL common consoles HAVE the same hardware). PC's range from MANY vendors with different hardware, specs AND drivers.

And Halo was a Vista Exclusive title meaning you had to run Vista in the background of Halo at the same time. Its optimized now obv.

I understand what your saying, but at the same time, PC hardware devs are now getting involved in individual PC projoects for optimizations on the most general of hardware, same goes for the drivers- back only a few years ago- drivers were tailored to individual cards, now with the Dawn of DX10 things are far simpler in terms of hardware compatibility. Obviously its not perfect, but PC has come a long way to mitigate the diverse hardware culture on the PC.
The only point your proving to me (which any person SHOULD know) is that PC's obviously have better POTENTIAL in the long run (dependent on your budget) than consoles. But there's far more inconveniences with PC's I can go on forever with for the 'average' person (excluding me) such as driver issues, incompatibility, OS, software, hardware, not to mention MONEY for components. The 360 was released in 05 with the SAME hardware it has now and it can STILL run up-to-date games WITHOUT upgrading

I own the entire crysis franchise. Own a 360 and FarCry 2 for both PC and 360. Own Far Cry (the 2004 original) for PC and the first generation Xbox with Far Cry instincts as well as the remake for the 360 version as well (predator). And yes, I am aware crysis runs off of the cryengine2, the 2nd generation of the proprietary engine used for FarCry 1.....the Dunia engine was utilized for FarCry 2 instead.

Not really....if a game was coded originally for a nex-gen console then PORTED to a PC, the graphics are not only USUALLY optimized better for the console but they ARE better. A PRIME example (from personal experience) is Need For Speed Most Wanted. I had that game on ALL three platforms (Xbox, PC and Xbox 360)....obviously PC was way better than xbox.....but the 360 version had FAR more higher res textures, bumpmapping and shader effects.

I in NO way said "Consoles ARE better than PC's"......if you can bring up one part where I said that verbatim than you have an argument....otherwise RE-EVALUATE your reading skills and perceptions. Since you're ignorant apparently, my POINT was that a GOOD programmer CAN and WILL OPTIMIZE a game (or any software for that matter) to match or even outperform hardware with higher specifications. They are the same engine, this is strange, isnt? Why have they done so much worth on x360 version. You see the textures are totally different, as the water effects and so on. Of course the x360 version wins, I'd like to know what was the improvements to make the engine seems another one.
the had to make the console version into a linear game instead of full sandbox style like the pc version. so if the game is linear then the game is smaller had has room for some texture improvements.
Actually, the first one came out long before the 360 release. That's why they look different.
Look at Farcry 2. It is more or less open world game, looks BETTER than Far Cry for either the PC or 360 and runs on Dunia, which is a modified version of Cryengine 1. Graphics aren't the reason why FC: PI is the way it is.
actually FC 2 dosnt use a modified CE 1 . dunia is a new engine from scratch and only 2% of the code came from FC2 when it was going to be developed on cryengine 1
AND, it doesn't matter. The point is that FC: IP isn't the absolute best that the 360 can do. The developers could have made the 360 version exactly like the PC version if they wanted to. Apparently they didn't.
the problem with the pc version of FC2 is that unlike the first farcry it cant really be modded or at least not easily. but then farcry didnt have a big modding community.

anyway, my point is that far cry 2 is a big, open-world game with a technical superiority to fc1, yet it is very much the same on both platforms. the console version isn't more linear than the pc version.

dud thats just new levels which the console version has a map editor as well which isnt as good as the pc version but its not to far off. im talking REAL mods. mods that add new missions, new weapons (this pissed me off that FC2 doesnt have any new weapon mods) new vehicles and total conversion mods.
game engine licenses are NOT CHEAP. mods are ALOT easier to do then making a whole game from scratch which would take a whole team of people and a budget. the whole point of a mod is to make a old or new game feel like new or better. like fallout 3 on pc is a good example of a making a old game feel like new using mods. check out fallout3nexus (google it)
game engine licenses aren't all that expensive. unity, which is coming out for the pc runs $200 for a indy license. there are other engines that are around that price too. Hell, Power Game Factory, which is on the Mac, runs around $100 I think. It's used to make 2d side scrollers.
It also doesn't take too many people to make a game. You need at least a programmer and modeler/designer/artist

well the reason why it didnt work for you with OBliv was because you prolly didnt really think about what he game was missing. i fealt the gamewas missing difficulty and some realism so i downloaded mods to change that as well as various weapon and armor mods. the japanese modders for that game make GOOD ARMOR for that game. good times.
I think I told you once before that I had Saurons armor, which comes with his mace and the one ring and had two versions of his cuirass (With and Without the cape). I had other mods as well. But at the end of the day they didn't make the game any better or different.
I think that the last time I actually wanted to add something to my game, I was playing Mass Effect and I wanted more official DLC. So I bought Bring Down the Sky.

instinct is 2 years newer with direct x 10, farcry doesnt have it and its just older. trust me 360 is old hardware, use only shader 3.0 and the graphic card has ONLY 256mb OF VIDEO MEMORY. that really sucks and it forces console systems to use low res textures, pc is considered the master system of graphics now, because hardware is newer wiht newer technologies,

I have seen a fair amount of these pc comparisons. First and foremost those games were released something like 3 years apart thats like comparing Halo 1 to Doom 3. I have a 360, afterwrads i bought an HDTV, which was 1200, 2 controllers for 60 ea, rechargable battery packs, 120 gb HDD, after tallying up the cost to get the most out of my 360 i paid close to 2 grand, my current gaming PC was around 6-700 range, so dont bitch about cost, to get the best its expensive either way.

You fail to realize consoles are DEDICATED gaming CONSOLES (like the name implies). They are designed SOLEY for games and future games at stock. PC's are upgradable (why? because they weren't immediately designed for that purpose). A developer CAN easily and efficiently opitimize CONSOLE games better since they only need to optimize it for ONE set of common hardware (since ALL common consoles HAVE the same hardware). PC's range from MANY vendors with different hardware, specs AND drivers.

chirlakato- also, PC versions are far superior to their console counter part. Im sure the Halo PC version wasn't a direct port engine and all but im sure it had some graphical tweaks etc. Also another reason it required higher tech is games on Vista don't seem to run as well and the base line hardware even to run Vista is basically a C2D and 2Gb of ram for an OS! And Halo was a Vista Exclusive title meaning you had to run Vista in the background of Halo at the same time. Its optimized now obv.

Oh no doubt lol, that wasn't what I was getting at haha.... 99 percent of ALL ports, the PC always stands on top in potential performance AND visuals not to mention gameplay (for the easy fact there's no limit on the hardware power you can dedicate to a PC provided your budget of course lol). I just meant great coders and many developers often cater to consoles since it's easier to only deal with ONE set of hardware to optimize unlike a PC. A PC is too diverse for one overall 'standard'.

I understand what your saying, but at the same time, PC hardware devs are now getting involved in individual PC projoects for optimizations on the most general of hardware, same goes for the drivers- back only a few years ago- drivers were tailored to individual cards, now with the Dawn of DX10 things are far simpler in terms of hardware compatibility. Obviously its not perfect, but PC has come a long way to mitigate the diverse hardware culture on the PC.

The only point your proving to me (which any person SHOULD know) is that PC's obviously have better POTENTIAL in the long run (dependent on your budget) than consoles. But there's far more inconveniences with PC's I can go on forever with for the 'average' person (excluding me) such as driver issues, incompatibility, OS, software, hardware, not to mention MONEY for components. The 360 was released in 05 with the SAME hardware it has now and it can STILL run up-to-date games WITHOUT upgrading

I own the entire crysis franchise. Own a 360 and FarCry 2 for both PC and 360. Own Far Cry (the 2004 original) for PC and the first generation Xbox with Far Cry instincts as well as the remake for the 360 version as well (predator). And yes, I am aware crysis runs off of the cryengine2, the 2nd generation of the proprietary engine used for FarCry 1.....the Dunia engine was utilized for FarCry 2 instead.

What kind of comparisson are you trying to make? Far cry is for both Pc and 360. But FC Predator is only for 360. So there´s no way you can compare both games. I´ve got a high-end computer and FarCry looks A LOT BETTER on Pc than 360. Predator is newer but, since is only available on 360, you just can´t compare them. Period.
I will never understand why people try to compare console games against Pc games if they already know Pc games look better ALWAYS.

Not really....if a game was coded originally for a nex-gen console then PORTED to a PC, the graphics are not only USUALLY optimized better for the console but they ARE better. A PRIME example (from personal experience) is Need For Speed Most Wanted. I had that game on ALL three platforms (Xbox, PC and Xbox 360)....obviously PC was way better than xbox.....but the 360 version had FAR more higher res textures, bumpmapping and shader effects.

Actually, the first one came out long before the 360 release. That's why they look different.
Look at Farcry 2. It is more or less open world game, looks BETTER than Far Cry for either the PC or 360 and runs on Dunia, which is a modified version of Cryengine 1. Graphics aren't the reason why FC: PI is the way it is.

AND, it doesn't matter. The point is that FC: IP isn't the absolute best that the 360 can do. The developers could have made the 360 version exactly like the PC version if they wanted to. Apparently they didn't.

game engine licenses are NOT CHEAP. mods are ALOT easier to do then making a whole game from scratch which would take a whole team of people and a budget. the whole point of a mod is to make a old or new game feel like new or better. like fallout 3 on pc is a good example of a making a old game feel like new using mods. check out fallout3nexus (google it)

game engine licenses aren't all that expensive. unity, which is coming out for the pc runs $200 for a indy license. there are other engines that are around that price too. Hell, Power Game Factory, which is on the Mac, runs around $100 I think. It's used to make 2d side scrollers.
It also doesn't take too many people to make a game. You need at least a programmer and modeler/designer/artist
Fallout 3 is a reasonably new game. I'm already aware of nexus.

I just don't see the need to Mod a game (Aside from MUGEN).
I have oblivion, I added mods, they didn't improve the game for me.
Now, if someone were to make a totally new game, with a new storyline, setting and voice actors, then I'd see the point. Other than that, I'm not a fan of piecing my games together with fan-made elements.
I mean, right now, my favorite game is Mass Effect. I'm happy with it the way it is. If somone made a mod, I wouldn't be interested at all.

well the reason why it didnt work for you with OBliv was because you prolly didnt really think about what he game was missing. i fealt the gamewas missing difficulty and some realism so i downloaded mods to change that as well as various weapon and armor mods. the japanese modders for that game make GOOD ARMOR for that game. good times.

I had mods for Oblivion.
I think I told you once before that I had Saurons armor, which comes with his mace and the one ring and had two versions of his cuirass (With and Without the cape). I had other mods as well. But at the end of the day they didn't make the game any better or different.
I think that the last time I actually wanted to add something to my game, I was playing Mass Effect and I wanted more official DLC. So I bought Bring Down the Sky.
