The Monkees actually stopped using a laugh-track partway through the second season. It was one of the first comedy shows to get away with not having one. Strangely enough, I never noticed it was missing from the later episodes until it was pointed out to me.
It reminded me of the scene in the first Monkees episode Royal Flush when Peter steals the towel outta the closet and a thought bubble appears over is head that says "Everybody does it" LOL
That was my fave part of this scene, too. But then the scene started getting silly and corny with Davy's melodramatic acting. ("This is really messed up!" "Well, it's REALLY annoying!") All in all, I LOVED it!
"Lizard sunning itself on a rock"...that one's funny too.
