So Uruguay beating Panama does not give them any more boost than England beating Italy. In fact, if Uruguay beats a minnow, their points pretty much stay the same. Also, on paper, none of the current England players would make the Brazilian C team.

Home court helps for sure. I personally think they focus toooo much on the RWC build up, they change their season, rest players etc why all the changes, they always win. Basically too much pressure and hate to use the word, BUT they choke in RWC and the French are their bogey team

The reason why the All Blacks have had little success in RWCs, is because it's a knock out tornument. If the matches were played best out of 3, I think you might have seen different results.

South africa next for home and away, although the home win was argueably the harder task. Then New zealand IF they win it. At the moment I have them behind England via similar logic :)

I wasn't ranking teams over all. I was ranking their performance in world cups, and the first tounrey asside, NZ have massivley underperformed.

Our record in RWCs is pretty much the same as England, won one, lost one final, knocked out in a semi, knocked out in a quarter...in fact we've made more finals than England....the Irish havent even made a semi yet Are they chokers too? and South Africa amy have won in 95 (under suspicious circumstances), but who did they have to beat to win in 2007? Fiji and England??

take it as a compliment. They've been consistantly on top of the rankings so it's natural that people expect them to win. England won the world cup then went to shit, SA won then lost to us (Irish), maybe you're better off not winning it ;)

Thing other thing I've noticed is that the All Blacks don't seem prepared to use the drop kick as an attacking weapon...which in world cup finals has historically been decisive. 2007 case in point, they waited til last 2 minutes to have a hurried pot shot when they could've done it with 20 mins to go and left France to chase the game (no doubt Barnes would've all of a sudden found his whistle and found a way of handing them back the lead!)

I'd have to diseagree. The Boks were pretty much consistanly top up until the early 80's - then they were banned. Since Bok readmission the ABs have undoubtedly had the upperhand. But since 2007/8 the tide has begun to turn in the Boks favour again. We'll have to see what happens in the future.

that is true... but up until the 1990s there was HUGE corruption in south africa. it was impossible for every team to win there. There was not a single neutral referee. The games were refereed by south african refs and touch judges.

its simple. NZ cannot play tournament style rugby. For the 4 years in between RWC the all blacks get a specific coaching staff that train them how to win Bledisloe / Tri-nations tournaments which only involves 2 other teams with an even playing field and similar styles which the AB's can master. Whereas in the RWC they are up against a range of different style teams most of which have nothing to lose.

@giavirtae I think it's more to do with the fact that the RWC are one off elimination games. If the Quarters, Semis & Final were played the best out of 3 games, I'm sure NZ would have won more RWCs. It's a bit like an English football side winning the premiership, but dropping a game during the FA cup.
