Brings back great memories from Fall 1996. I'd like you to turn the other way and get me a pint of John Smith's Bitter at the Gregory Arms. Ah, Harlaxton...
I was there in the Fall of 1998. It's a magical place. Supposedly there are 5 ghosts haunting it. I did have a poltergeist find something in my room for me while I was gone to lunch one day. The manor was filmed in a Hugh Grant film called The Lady and the Highwayman and several other films, most recently The Haunting with Liam Neeson and Catherine Zeta Jones. I met some great people there and dream of going back some day.
i live just near harlaxton manor, drive past it everyday, its amazing, ive been to some of the open days there, its just as amazing inside. the students there are so lucky!
when I was 16, my frined and I tracey decided to go for a bike ride(22yrs ago now!)..we saw this college and decided to have a nosey around, rode down the long path.had a look around..it seemed such an amazing place..we spent some of that afternoon talking to some American students in their rooms!lost touch..but is a memory that has been brought back by seeing this.thanks
Harlaxton Manor is basically private, but people do walk around the grounds (outside the house). There are occasional open days and events when the house itself could be open, usually between semesters when students will be on holiday.
It was brilliant. I was there in the Fall of 1998. The following semester, they filmed the exterior shots for The Haunting. If you'd like to see some of the interior and the grounds, Hugh Grant was in romance novel turned movie called The Lady & the Highwayman. A lot of that was filmed at the Manor, which was supposed to be a palace. There were some really poor movies filmed there including The Last Days of Patten and some strange thing that Peter O'Toole was in. But the Manor is awesome.
As kids we used to sneak up to the back of the building to look in on the Friars in the library. I'm sure they knew we were there but didn't mind. It was then a centre for the Society of Jesus.

This could be a typical haunted house. Classic.
