Walking in beauty. Beauty in front of me, beauty behind me, beauty above me, beauty below me, beauty to the right of me, beauty to the left of me. BEAUTY ALL AROUND ME.
All time favorite, I had the 45 first then found an album & have been singing this song throughout my life, sometimes smiling as big as I could & sometimes crying my eyes out...but always thankful for having this song in my life!
I remember hearing this on my buddy's transistor, which he always used to carry around. I'll still start to sing the song and the other pretends to finish it; this is one that neither of us have forgotten. Amazing that this sound has stuck for so long in our minds. Still love it.
old friends from the sixties chip baker love from sheila the group image east village days always sing this song as i live with the maya in mexico and it works it starts to rain
sebi, thank you for posting this. I used to listen to this song and drums when I was in prison. The Lakota would sit and sing and this was one of my favorites...none of the extra jazz in it though!
I never knew Jim in life, I am, however, privileged and honored to know and be friends with his mother. From her I have learned much about Jim and his music, so its almost as if I knew him. She and her son's music also helped me to discover and embrace my own Native American heritage... A journey that is in it's infancy, but that I am enjoying wholeheartedly. Thank you for that, and your music Jim.
Such a beautiful song! I heard this on NPR close to 20 years ago and never forgot it. I've looked for the CD for a long time, and actually found the Harpers Bizarre version on a 45 single. It makes my heart glad to hear the original again. Thank you!
To me, this was the "Holy Grail"of underground music,as it was called in the early seventies. NEVER did I think I would hear it again. WMMR 93.7 in Philly would play it in the early A.M. when I would be driving around all night, probably on a "high" level of mind" WOW.Still blows me away, and I'm your typical urban white guy. All in all, and I don't use this term loosely, the best song recorded. Thank you so much,888sebi888.
At 46 years of age, I have heard and still listen to many different genres of music including folk, punk, rock, heavy metal, bluegrass, jazz, gospel and everything in between. I loved it the first time I heard it and it is definitely one of my favorite songs ever. I find the lyrics and the saxophone in this song to be so spiritual and uplifting that mere words cannot explain how I feel when I hear it.
I lost this song for years after loving the chant. No one could seem to recall it excately as it wa. Then "Sleepers was playing and I immediately heard the background chant. Found the crdeits but could not find the song. My son was in college and had access to computers which I did not, to do his old man a favor it was a week later that I had six versions he found on the net. Thanks Jim and thanks to my son Brad.
I heard this song 40 years ago...and loved it instantly. I love chanting and if I have a bad day I play this on the way home. Thank you for posting this wonderful rendition.

And hopefully the Zappa Family Trust Nut Bags won't find any copyright infringements on the simple joy of expression and maybe go find a job .
We always have hope.

Does anyone know what Witchi Tai To means?
Thank You.
dirtysallysnowball 2 years ago
hmm, firstly it's a "holy" song from the Kaw-indians. It was sang in meetings, when the water was handed around to the others.
So the meaning could be:
"Water spirit feelin spinnin round my head
Makes me feel glad that Im not dead"
I hope I could help you =)

@dirtysallysnowball
It means water spitrit feeling

Any Pepper on youtube would be much appreciated!

Have not heard this in maybe 15 years, however, I could still sing along and feel as moved as I did the first time I heard it.
Not bad for a cold winters night in the UK!
Thanks

Thanks for posting. This is the version
that I'm most familiar with.
Sadly the last before his demise,
but as seen on the tube, this as well
as the other more recognized earlier
versions, the song is still very popular.
It reminds me of the beautiful
Indians in the Washington park district
of Regina Sask.
