  • kapustin was when young a great classical pianis whe record soviet music like concertos witth orchestra!!!!!

  • Assolutamente fantastico.....

  • I'd be very interested to see him perform Liszt, Beethoven, Chopin and Shostakovich.

  • @largolegato He is a legend-composer of the century and you want him play pieces of another composer.? Such talents shouldn't do that if not having the freedom of improvisation.:)

  • Hearing what a magnificent performance this man gives of his own music, I would be interested to hear him perform some other music. I imagine he would do a terrific job at playing Debussy and Ravel maybe even Prokofiev or Bartók.

Anyway, this man really is a great composer and a great pianist.

  • So great! A M A Z I N G !

  • Absolutely wonderful! It's so nice to see and hear someone playing without BANGING on the piano! Love his gentle touch and emotional expression.

  • @jackieb7758 Refreshingly different. Beautiful in every way.

  • @jackieb7758 EXACTLY! lovely controlled playing but with the perfect amount of conviction

  • omg serieux this is incredible..

  • he kinda looks like an ewok from this angle

  • Great!!!!

  • He's amazing.

  • Fico muito emocionada ouvindo Kasputin, sua música tem um misto de força e delicadeza.

    Grande gênio !!!!!

Só tenho a mesma emoção ouvindo Oscar Peterson e Chopin.

  • ...gets hammered on vodka, gets this out, I try bourbon, well, fuck man, what is this?...

  • Nikolai Kapustin

  • Kapustin means lettuce in Russian.

  • Normally, in Soviet Russia, piano play you. Nikolai is the only exception

  • No matter how many times i listen to this, i just can't get enough,. He's not Jazz, but who cares. One of the greatest classical composers of modern times, for sure.

  • Nice playing, and the sound quality is outstanding...

  • Very interesting stuff, but I'm a bit disturbed by his claustrophobic use of time. He seems to be terrified by rests, time suspension, rubati....pacing isn't part of his vocabulary. His compositions are kind of driven by a "Horror vacui".

  • i admire him as a composer but don't really like the music, its too machine-like for me, still each to their own

  • his left hand is a fucking beast O.O makes me jealous he can both compose jazz and the same time have such a relaxed left hand this guy trust talent in jazz :)

  • Il Maestro è un grande.

  • You are a god! I would literally give up everything just to meet you in person!

  • @MCalixte89 he doesn't consider himself a jazz musician because he doesn't do improvisations. He is a jazz composer

  • I like the mixture he creates with classical and jazz music it makes his works very developed and pleasant to listen to.

  • This is just plainly awesome.

  • this excites me on a fundamental level, pure, unadorned, thwacking, rhythmic bluesy, joyfulness.

  • Thema from Gershwin's "Liza" at 0.45?

  • sorry guys, my account was deleted. so contact me for the sheets

  • hi, i have all the sheetmusic, just contact me for the link

  • never heard of him....But this is truly an amazing fusion of classical and jazz piano.BIG Thumbs up from me...

  • the more i listen the more i fall in love.

  • I could listen to this for days

  • He has such a unique, yet ultra familiar, sound and composing style.

  • Much like a Russian Oscar Peterson. I'm impressed. His name reminds me of the Mad Monk but he plays like a king of jazz.

    Bravo!

  • @unclejuniorsoprano oscar peterson and mad monk do not have the high level classical training of Kapustin, so the comparison here is not very relevant.

  • @Ahelphand You misunderstood my comment. By "mad monk" I meant that his name is similar to that of Rasputin. I'm aware that Oscar Peterson was not trained as a classical pianist, but that's beside the point. It's not "training" that I'm comparing, but "style"; the jazz idiom as played by a Russian pianist.

  • @unclejuniorsoprano Kapustin's idiom is very diverse across his repertoire, his chamber music and preludes can at times be compared to Roslavets, Kabalevsky even Bolling

  • @Ahelphand I understand that. I just don't get your point. Simply put, I said that Kasputin plays like a Russian Oscar Peterson. You obviously know more about this jazz idiom than I do. I commend you for that & thank you for the comparisons. I will check them out.

  • @unclejuniorsoprano my point was just that he's very diverse :-), nothing against your comments.

  • Amazing!

  • Love

  • Great!!!

  • really a great musician, composer, pianist. And he integrated jazz fanstically into the classic music language....

  • :46 sonic the hedgehog?

  • @dprice112 Well if I heard that on Sonic the Hedgehog, I'd be like, "Kapustin?"

  • 1:09 chopin?

  • @zannabianca82

    Yes, Chopin into Kapustin

  • @zannabianca82 1:32 piazzola?

  • There's all kinds of things going on here. An hour ago I hadn't even heard of this guy ... I've been hanging out to hear something new like this..he's brilliant!

  • This is so beautiful, and hearing the composer play this piece is amazing.

  • Wow, this is great!!

  • I never be bored with this play.wonderingly.

  • @tgrouge Couldn't have said it better myself.

  • love it!!!

  • Kapustin is a great composer, and also a terrific piano player... He is certainly the coolest old man I've ever seen

  • @gatorno11 @3:32 he keeps cutting the measure in half...amazing sound...git me lost the first time

  • regardless of his amazng composing - surely kapustin must rank among the best living pianists in the world too - i bet that he could play his etudes as fast as he wanted to without losing thier musicality (unlike some of the other pianists on youtube).

  • @daigoro789 Its just due to superior techniques and to play any music piece without musicality is an irony.

  • This guy is a genius. One of my favorite songs, along with his concert etudes.

  • Soo much music theory!!

  • easily a 20th century Chopin and Russia's partial answer to Oscar Peterson.

  • This is fantastic)))

  • he is definitely THE coolest 70 year old.

  • fuck yea!

  • best kapustin piece i've found

  • Anyone else think 0:47 sounds like sonic :D

  • Yea, kinda.

  • Im glad someone agrees^^

  • It's great to have this chance to see the great maestro playing in person.

  • i can play this..........If I practice this ONE SONG for 16 years lol

  • why would u ever need that long

  • Technical mastery and fantastic compositional skills makes this a wonderful and enriching performance to watch and listen to.

  • stunning

  • Wow, this is great! Does anyone know where I can get the sheet music?

  • wtf?

  • Kapustin once said, "I was never a jazz musician. I never tried to be a real jazz pianist, but I had to do it because of the composing. I'm not interested in improvisation -- and what is a jazz musician without improvisation? All my improvisation is written, of course, and they became much better; it improved them."

  • rofl wtf : DDD

  • @jazzyhori its not really jazz. its a combination of jazz and classical. but its considered classical. he doesnt consider himself a jazz musician

  • Thanks for the great music and great performance!

  • one word: great.

  • amazing music...

  • Marvellous music and pianist. New to me, and a find of surprising freshness, warmth and personality and intelligence!

  • Great composer and great pianist.

  • maravilloso
