Hey, don't diss it! I attend Battle of Aiken every year, it's a blast! I work crowd control. :) That means I get to go to the Reenactors' Ball! Which makes me laugh, because I'm generally the only one dancing in modern clothing. Everyone else in period gear, and I'm out there in my blue jeans and T-shirt. Let me tell you, those Union cannon teams - they can dance! And the food, candy, and atmosphere are great, plus the battles themselves are generally accurate. Don't knock it!
LOVE the gal drinking from her period soda can. I've learned a lot from reenactments about all the modern conveniences "available" during the Civil War...hairstyles with bangs worn with flourescent 'snoods', soda cans,sunglasses,cell phones,cameras, hordes of over-fed middle-aged soldiers wandering about stuffing their faces while massaging their Blackberry's. Such an honor befitting our fallen heroes. Reduced to silly, badly researched dress up war games. I haven't seen ONE done properly.
I agree dixiebelladonna. I am from SC where this event takes place. I am a reenactor, but my group is progressive.campaign/hardcore, which means if its not authentic, it doesnt take place within our unit. Battle of Aiken is nothing more than a circus for farbs
Keep on making more of these and maybe others will learn to respect those who fought in the Civil War and those who are fighting in Iraq...Good job!!!!!

when the participants were told they were fighting over Clay Aiken neither side wanted him so the event ended in a draw. And a barbecue.
