  • Am - G - C down to Em7 to Dm then back to C down to Am. Repeat.

  • This is SO beautiful, and it matches the renderings perfectly. When was this timeless gem recorded?

  • @audiotrax2000 From "HMS Donovan" double album 1971. Was available on CD. There is a fantastically whimsical musical adaptation of "The Walrus and the Carpenter" (and other great cuts) on that album as well.

  • I'm a teenager and this is one of my favorite poems (yes, I actually read) and this is one of my favorite musicians (my generation doesn't even have real music) doing a lovely to-song version of it, it's absolutely magical. Thank you for uploading this. Beautiful illustrations as well, thank you for them, very very nice. This is pure magic. :)

  • @yoginipeacelove

Please don't be offended, this isn't personal but under every Donovan video I've watched today I found a comment like this and by now I am a little irritated. Those who read books and listen to music like this might not be the majority of our generation but it doesn't really make you that special either. And, most importantly, WE DO HAVE REAL MUSIC. It might be a littel harder to find but it is there.

  • Maryhill bhoy done big good. Lifetime award acceptance speech on Tuesday was most informative. Jocks are more than briefs.............

    Influential genius.

  • see donovan.ie for Donovan's current doings.

  • This is simply beautiful. Scottish burr and all.

  • When i was young i danced with a girl...at first she was a silver trout...then she became a glimmering girl...i got scared and ran away...i thought i had seen a ghost...

  • Beautiful. Amazing poem. I might recommend Bud and Travis' version, as well.

  • Thanks for posting this. Not to be too picky, but the artists name is Donovan Phillips Leitch. He has, professionally, gone by just his first name (like Cher and Madonna).

  • donald1701 - Isn't his name Donovan Philip Leitch?

  • @donald1701 And did it way before they did, right Donald? Even Cher was "Sonny & Cher" for a long time.

  • Totally awesome!

  • @nick40nick40 ♥

  • This is really nice...

Love the video. Check out Richie Havens version if you liked this. It's even more moving.

  • Bellissima..........ma Branduardi è magico.

  • kalbimize dokunan şarkılarını hep çok sevdim...bide bizim bu taraflara gelsen...

  • brilliant. his voice is so tender, perfect for the poem.

  • This is so beautiful. Is this on an album? BTW, I love your use of images to accompany this poem/song.

  • Side-by-side with Frost's "Promises to keep, and miles to go before I sleep", "Silver apples of the moon, golden apples of the sun" have got to be the greatest metaphorical lines in literary and poetic history.

  • @gyrene0311 wow, i never thought about it but i agree with you completley! thanks for making the connection!

  • the allotropes of the mother whom he would recreate in art

  • Christy was good but not anything approaching this. A real gem.

  • Lovely melody of Yeats' beautiful poem by the master of romance Donovan.

  • Love it, the images fit the song/poem so perfectly.

  • I think Christy's version is better,sorry

  • Gorgeous, thank you.

  • Indeed, magical music, ethereal vocals! I love this video!

  • I didn't know that the music of angelo's version was written by Donovan. This info is probably on the CD, I just never noticed.... or I forgot :-) very nice Mik

  • La voix de Donovan est superbe! avec un grain et des résonnances que je (re) découvre;

  • Oh yes!.. really both versions are like a magic music!...

    Thanks so much for posting.

    luca

  • both versions are wonderful thank you for posting

  • I think much about it. There's so much so much, to feel - love!
