Even with first partisan, Russians lough not on Americans but on their own stereotype how regular American behaves like. (My native language is russian so I feel exactly where is realy offending).

yes, it's difficult to translate good russian jokes/movies/songs etc.. there's just too much meaning, which unfortunately, the west or east, for that matter can't get ...russian culture is unique or used to be.. now all they seem to do is follow the west .. BOOO :(

@faenjegerkul It is pointless translating EVERY clip of Comedy Club. Most of them have specific slang, language and humor based on Russian realities. Americans and most of Westerners simply won't get it.

@faenjegerkul Many russian-language movies were and are translated even since Soviet era. They participate in International Movie Festivals. Even more books are translated in many languages of the World... Like Tolstoy, Dostoevsky etc... Even one is interesting, he has plenty of sources to start understanding Russian mentality and Russian culture.

But humor is very specific. Even Russian speaking immigrants can't always get contemporary jokes, because they have broke off modern Russian reality.

That is old movies, and old books. Its like Sleepless in Seattle is good movie but its old, nobody show old movies and stand up anymore. Dostoevsky is classic, its few intellectuals that read him, but most people read the newest books that got good PR.

And even if you think that us Russian has specific humor and jokes, and foreign people don't understand it you are wrong. I love Stand up at Apollo, and they have specific English humor. But I still get it.

@faenjegerkul Modern Russian movies go to Movie Festivals too. They actually never stopped participation in such events. "How I did last summer", "Ovsyanki", "The Island"... these all are modern movies.

On Greek state TV they have many old Soviet World War II movies.

2) If I hear a joke from New Zealand and I don't get it, the only conclusion I can make is that I didn't get the joke, because I am not familiar with language or/and mentality of New Zelanders.

3) Person without humor is a handicapped one.

4) The particular joke is based on stereotypes that money is everything for an American and he will sell everything for it. And vodka loose the tongue of a Russian.

5) Since the joke contains self-sarcasm it is a good joke without meaning to offense solely someone else.

6) In last months I've read several books about espionage in WW II. You will be very surprised when you know that most of German, British, American agents were working for both sides just in order to get more paychecks and then flee to Switzerland to live the rest of their lives in peace. And it was common knowledge of that time for all secret services.

If you speak russian and you really want to see a real russian humor you should watch Michael Zadornov (Михаил Задорнов). I like him more than comedy club :)

@kerier1911 :) Actually this scene is named "Partisans from all over the wordls" and had several examples of "partisans" :) I cut out only two. American and Russian.

Humor is very simple based on stereotypes that American will sell everything and everyone for money. And that drunken Russian partisan will tell you everything by himself without even a torture :)

But critical question "Do you respect me?" requires only positive answer OR ELSE!!! :)))
