I am a musician that plays mainly baroque music. I have heard your complete performance and found it to be very beautiful. I like to move when I perform too, don't stop. Thank you for sharing.
wow!!!! You are incredible! I'm learning this piece right now for my audition for Interlochen and thought I'd hear how it sounds once it's ready for performance, lets just say I have a long ways to go before it sounds that good. Fantastic job, you are a wonderful oboe player!
me again.. one year later!!! sorry.. am i missing something about thunderbird, or has his message been edited.... ok, so thinderbird is a bit unappreciative to the amateur, everyone has room for improvement.. but don't forget those old foes.. i can never forget them.... NERVES.... i have a concert in 4 months times and i've been crapping myselft for 6 months!!! LOL.... but back to my point...... i don't see any asian or any other racist remarks in his coments??? am i missing something...
@timlaimusician cheeky git!!! some people are just pathetic... keep up the good work... bet you are better than him and that what sticks in his claw.... lol...
in response to guardian 1984 ,from one year ago.... ok, i've only just come on here!!!
i have two types of music for this and other pieces, one downloaded and one shop bought.... there are differences in the two, flats in one not in the other...etc..... so, it depends on the editorial of the music.. don't blame the musician!!!! espec. if everyone in the orchestra and soloist is doing the same thing.. it's obvoius that it is printed...... doooooooooooooh
I just LOVE these three oboe concertos . .not only the music which is sublime, but the way the pieces are played here. To expand a previous comment, I prefer to hear an ensemble that sounds like real people playing real instruments and not the "perfect pitch" stuff that could as well be computer generated.
Thanks for posting them Tim. I really admire your performance and the obvious enthusiasm of the orchestra backing you up.
I am actually playing just the third movement for my audition into our youth symphony orchestra! Listening to you really helped me, because your rhythmic accuracy is really astounding :)
I loved it...I play the oboe as a 13 year old and I would consider myself pretty good.
Not this good though...actually I think this song sounds so cool I was planning on playing it for Solo and Ensemble next year. Thunderbirrd, the oboe is not a very widely played instrument (comparatively) and you shouldn't be puttin down people who are awesome enough to play it
wow im impressed if i could get it this good for my recital in 2 weeks time i would be so happy ignore other peoples comments its not that easy to play the piece especially when you under pressure with a live audience
Played well enough, but it would be better that the harpsichord were digital so that it may be amplified over the sound of the other instruments instruments being of a different era.
Twiddle7125, I then apologize to you for in observation I mistook: the sound of the strings to be of metal and not gut; the cello to be supported by an endpin and not calves; the tone-holes of the oboe to be stopped by keys and not flesh; and the harpsichord to be the only instrument from the Baroque period. Forgive my ignorance for in it I did not condemn the performance but only wished to be hear my favorite instrument, the harpsichord.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Played well enough? :-) You must be joking!! The composition is beautiful but the performance terrible (Freiburger Barockorchester would have played it hundred times better). Not talking about several melodic errors, it sounds so amateurish and finally the mediocre audio quality. It makes me think that asian oboe players are so bad, they would probably have done better, if they had chosen a european player instead. :-))
I would tell you why you're an idiot for comparing an 'amateur' performance to the _Freiburger Barockorchester_ but if you could understand then you wouldn't have made the error in the first place.
I think I can compare everything, why not, there are no boundaries. :-) If the ensemble had practised the composition better, they could have even reached a performance comparable to master ensembles' performances. I believe that even an amateurish ensemble when practising enough (sure, it would take them much more time and effort) can play in such a manner that one would think it's been played by a top ensemble such as Freiburger Barockorchester. ;-)
Thunderbirrd; Just to highlight any unintended ignorance, your assumption of me being Asian is based on appearance, with no knowledge of my background, education and upbringing. I can confirm that you are incorrect. I have lived in the UK for all my life (nearly 22 years) and have always had a 'European' oboe teacher. Hope this clarifies a few things
Ok, I was only joking, of course. :-) But nevertheless, have you noticed the melodic mistakes you made in the composition (not only you but also the violin players)? There are not many of them but a few (eg. at 1:38) and it sounds a bit flat overall. Maybe I'm wrong and it's caused by the miserable sound quality of the recording.
If EVERYONE in the orchestra including the soloist is playing a 'melodic mistake', then perhaps it's editorial differences between what you're used to hearing and what I've played. Would you agree? The solo part plays A natural followed by D natural...that does not go far wrong in the key of D minor
mate, ignore this thunderrbird bloke, I'm taking A level music, and so have to study various concertos. Out of all the so called 'Amateur' ones I've seen, this is the best! although the sound quality is poor, that doesn't affect the quality of the music being played. You did great!!!
First of all Thunderbirrd, you sound extremely racist with your asian european comment. Secondly he obviously IS an amateur duh. Did you actually watch the video and notice thier age? Thier just kids. Its probably done by a school somewhere. I applaud them for a good job, this is definately a learning experience for them and they will get better.
If you want to critique at a professional level, go grade professionals not children.
Excuse me but I am an asian AND I play the oboe. So you can just leave your nasty, racial comments to yourself because everyone has their own talents and everyone has something they need to work on...Let people improve on their own!
Yes i'll admit it's a difficult instrument to learn but with willpower it can be overcome and it's amazing how fast you can pick up and progress. i'm a piper and flute player and have been playing the oboe now for 5 years.
Well done! i think you have done very well. The second mvt was a little fast, and this is a little slow! Your internation and accuracy was very good - please ignore any comments which imply otherwise; there is not a musician who has never stumbled over a hard passage or played a bumb note!
i agree with WyattOboe, you do dance around alot. and i can see his/her thinkin when describing it like an elf. still, well played. i prefer the first 2 mvmts though.
I like how you dance like an elf when playing. You should have played just a tiny bit louder in my opinion, the other instruments echo off the room and doesn't blend with you.
I don't think I could post, I played this piece 6 years ago and had to take a hiatus the last 4 years while in college. :( On the trilled notes, make them four 16th notes or 32nd notes, that way each time you play it, it will be consistent and your fingers will follow the pattern better. Otherwise trills have a tendency to sound like flailing and can lead your fingers the wrong direction for continuing to the next note in the phrase.
Nice job! You have a nice interpretation of this piece. You might consider changing your trills to measured notes so that it doesn't catch you off guard moving out of the trill and to the next phrase.
As for Messiter's interpretation, google Malcolm Messiter and the first hit will be "Classical Music Archives" you can listen for free there. I had a teacher transcribe it for me from his CD. This is the same version so you might be able to listen and get some ideas.
