Why do people think these are so weird? They're big, yeah, but not really weird. I've seen these every summer since I was a kid, I just always thought they were really cool.
dude i saw a bug almost like this like only 5 times in CA for the 3 year i been there, it was about an 1in in Diameter 1.25inches long and the with was about an inch, im not 100% sure but thats close to the size. it had white and black stripes it was really cool looking, lol and when you just push it to the ground a little it made this really cool clicking noise XD
not too sure what nikkimoll is talking about...this beetle is fully grown(otherwise it would be a larva or pupa) and is a male ten lined june beetle(genus Polyphylla)
in the philippiens we have swarms of those. they are called salagubang. they grow up to be a size of half a thump a grow bristles on their anntenae. that one is just a baby.
anyone seen the bug that one dude stepped on and 3 worms came out of it. i saw it on tv and i want to see it again if anyone knows where to see it let me know thanks
that sucker is a june bug, name says it all they usually come out during june in california, i know this cuz i live in california. theyre nasty little buggers, will hiss at you and bite you if youre too close
this of course is the rare Stripped Sand beetle commonly know as Roger alas now only found usually found in Latvia, although it has been quite windy over there lately.
my dog once brought one of those in the house.....it would hiss at me...

It's a Ten Striped June Beetle, BTW. If you put them on your finger they'll stay there all day and they're kinda hard to get off lol.
