I really like this movie. I recently just bought the book The GIrl Next Door which is similar to this movie. I now just want to see the movie to it. Has anyone seen it? Any good? I watched the trailer and it seemed good.

I can´t find any words to explain what i feel when i see these cruel and horrible crimes they did to her. I stoped watching this movie at part 5. this movie doesn´t deserve a prize or an oscar, because you can´t honor it. there isn´t anything good in this movie. no matter how good the actors are!!!

I watched this movie and i cried to think that one little girl out there with a bright future was so cruelly tortured and killed. This movie however downplays the real pain. I looked it up and MUCH more happened to her. She had her private parts burnt and the family took turns sticking something up her and they wanted to see what went farthest. It was a sad game, lost in pieces.
At least she is in her heaven, riding with the plastic horses and beautiful twinkling lights of the carnival.
@MackyzBack The Girl next door 2007 ( It's on netflix watch instantly )was based on the same thing, and it might be a little better than this one. ( Haven't watched this yet ) They don't show the torture as much ( Thankfully ) most of it is implied. They show the poor girl trying to survive, and if just breaks your heart. I cried, a lot.

Well think of it this way. I was informed that Jenny had a big disability. It is said that she was being beaten too but Sylvia chose to have Gertude take the beating out on her instead of her sister. Also, I've heard that Jenny wanted to stop this torture but she was being spied on. However, I don't know what to really believe. All I do know is that this shit shouldn't happened to poor Sylvia. God bless her. The parents are the ones to be blamed greatly for not checking up on them.
Lastly, you should look at the video called the unkown facts of an ameican crime. It actually surpried me but made me feel angry at the director for not adding those real facts. If you have looked it up then don't bother.

Girl Next Door took place in 1958. An American Crime takes place in 1965. The events happened differently in each movie so it seems like two different girls with the same situation, but I'm not sure. Maybe some things were made up in one of the movies...I don't know.

Jack Ketchums Girl Next Door & An American Crime are both based on the same true story about Sylvia Likens, difference is, is that An American Crime uses more of the real things that happened.
So does that mean that the girl's death was more like what happened in this movie or Girl Next Door, because in that one her death was way worse! That's why I thought it was two different girls...
Neither one is entirely accurate. Sylvia Likens experienced far more torture than is shown in An American Crime, but I don't think the movie was supposed to just be about the torture, it was meant to tell her story.
Either way, both movies are terribly heartbreaking :(

This movie is not nearly as bad as The Girl Next door which is based on the same thing It was awful I saw a video of the basement where the torture went on it killed me 2 even see the place where it happened Its unexplainable how evil people can be 2 do this 2 an innocent girl who did nothin They stripped her in front of all of the neighborhood kids u HAVE 2 watch the girl next door I cried so much And u know how they called her a prostitute well the autopsy results showed that she was a virgin

Lol.. This movie wasn't real to me.. The real story of Silvia Likens had it worse.. Look it up.. They insert a coke bottle into her vagina until it's swollen and called her a prostitute.. They did so many things to her that you wouldn't believe and this movie is not letting us know how tortured silvia likens was. RIP.

Well think of it this way. I was informed that Jenny had a big disability. It is said that she was being beaten too but Sylvia chose to have Gertude take the beating out on her instead of her sister. Also, I've heard that Jenny wanted to stop this torture but she was being spied on. However, I don't know what to really believe. All I do know is that this shit shouldn't happened to poor Sylvia. God bless her. The parents are the ones to be blamed greatly for not checking up on them.

I know, me too. I had read the crime report beforehand, but skipped the last few pages because I figured I knew what happened. I watched the movie and was overcome with happiness because I thought she died and realized she lived. It felt like being punched in the stomach when Sylvia saw herself lying there.

Girl Next Door took place in 1958. An American Crime takes place in 1965. The events happened differently in each movie so it seems like two different girls with the same situation, but I'm not sure. Maybe some things were made up in one of the movies...I don't know.
The girl from Girl Next Door's death was differnet and so much worse from what I had seen, but both of them were torchered by a pyscho mom...if its not all the same people. That bitch should have rotted in prison. Life is Life.

true. this movie is pretty accurate though. it is of course missing some of the abuse and they portrayed paula differently, but other than that...it was taken from court documents and the names were the same. i couldn't watch bits of the girl next door..the blow torch thing and other stuff it was like a snuff film

Neither one is entirely accurate. Sylvia Likens experienced far more torture than is shown in An American Crime, but I don't think the movie was supposed to just be about the torture, it was meant to tell her story.
Either way, both movies are terribly heartbreaking :(
The poor girl, totally innocent. She deserved a better life.

Okay so I watched this today and I could not stop crying. That lady seriously had mental problems. Sylvia never did anything wrong. She was so pure and innocent. I hate the oldest sister so much right now. She's the one who started everything. Sylvia would've lived if it wasn't for that whiny brat who was the whore who got herself pregnant and didn't tell her mom the truth but instead makeup lies to get that poor girl killed. RIP Sylvia. It is easy to say that Jenny should have told someone, but who was she to tell? We already know the neighbors didn't give a damn. And if she told the police, would they even have believed her? They probably would've gone to the house and that monster Gertrude would have made up some bs story and then Sylvia would've gotten it worse, Jenny too. All very sad.
