  • my button only works for 1 second :( heeelllllllppppppp please

  • Finally a working door, thanks!

  • Thank you so much for this tutorial TaviRider! I can finally be safe behind a set of double doors (:

  • Minecraftians dont have fingers, either.

  • How Do You Get Out?

  • It doesnt work for me(1.0.0)

  • the 4 people who disliked this are too stupid to understand MineCraft and, or doors(:

  • Thanks soooo much I have been trying to figure this out for a while! It took a few tries but I finally was able to make it.(:

  • wow thanks

  • Thank u this helped so much

  • came the fuck on! i like this tutorial but can people make a simple button door that isnt 2 blocks away from the actual door??

  • When I have everything hooked up the way you did it and i press the button the torches in the RS nor latch are both out when i go to check whats wrong (why is this???) THX

  • This worked perfectly, thanks a lot!

  • concise and thorough. well commentated man, cant wait for you to make tutorials for everything useful

  • Whenever I place a redstone torch directly below the door on the left facing inside, the door stays open and never closes, any particular reason why?

  • @Drehmini Does the torch go on and off?

  • @TaviRider It was my smp server, I just restarted the server and it fixed the issue.

  • little know fact, steve doesnt have fingers either xD

  • Creepers don't have fingers? Whaaaaaat? I guess what they say is true, you learn something new every day.

  • This is amazing but I had an I idea that make the button like a T-flip flop when I finish I plan to make a video on it and I will give you credit also.

  • What command do u use in SPC to dig so fast?

  • @TheOliverdahlhanssen It's the instantmine command. I also usually use the drops command to turn off drops.

  • @TaviRider Ok, thanks man :-)

  • @TheOliverdahlhanssen The Command is called instantmine.

  • Thanks mine works great, I figured out what was wrong.

  • I wana roll with the gangsters... but they all think im white & nerdy

  • Mine doesnt work i have the 1.7.3 resion would it matter?

  • @ompodos This should work fine in all versions.

  • wow nice tutorial! You just got another subscriber :P

  • for double doors, use a T-Flip flop instead.

  • @Mariuspersem If you use a T Flip-Flop instead then you have to press a button to close the door behind you when you walk out. My design closes them automatically behind you.

  • @TaviRider you have a point, but you can just use two sets of pressure plates, then you don't need any buttons at all. atleast good for those who like to play on peacefull or a door underground where there is no animals.

  • @Mariuspersem If you're not worried about others letting themselves in, just plate/plate double doors are plenty... just wire them directly to the doors, no latch or flip-flop necessary.

  • Excellent video. I just started getting into Minecraft not to long ago. Redstone definitely intrigues me as it pays homage to Garry's Mod's WireMod. Thumbs Up and Subscribe from me, thanks!

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!

  • when i steped on the presure plat it sizled and wont workd now

  • @bmick23 The sizzle is the sound of a torch burning out. You have some kind of loop in your redstone, though it's hard for me to guess where.

  • This is probably the most primitive but yet compact double door system in minecraft ever made! Tavirider is the best Minecrafter after all, I think with everything you've made till now, significantly it helps alot and I also think you should be working with notch or something... Ok wadever, anyways thx for this amazing double door idea, it was just what I needed!!!

  • Hey guys, I just descovered a great technique for pistons for the 1.7 update that just released. It's fairly simple, if you think that I should give TaviRider the design so he can make it better then thumbs up! The only issue with this design is that the piston closes on it's own and won't stay open.

  • Great videos, great explanations! Subbed!

  • this helped :D i subscribed :D

  • i did a double door with a button AND a lever to close it

    see my channel :)

  • i always think the red wool under the pressure plates were TNT >_<

  • congrats this vid got you anuda sub =] great work, im hopelesss with redstone

  • This was very helpful as I couldn't for the life of me figure out the RS NOR built that way. The only design I have ever built is the "standard" one. Personally, I cannot understand the schematic system the wiki uses to design circuits all that well, hence why I couldn't figure it out. Doesn't help that logical thinking ain't one of my specialities :P

But yep, very helpful for me. :)

  • @CoDCopsProductions I can't stand those 2D schematics either, especially when they show multiple layers. Redstone circuits are inherently 3D. That's exactly why I made my Hall of Circuits, and later my World of Redstone.

  • verry helpful

  • thank you so much, downloaded your world (havent tried it out yet xD), liked and subbed :D

i quickly built it in a plain area near my house while you were explaining, now i just gotta intergrate it into mu house, replacing the single door that i previously had xD means i have to do a little bit of rebuilding with my house :P

  • one problem I have only one door that works!!!

  • @TheRyan123496 same thing with me, plates work for both, button on the left hand door (when looking at the button)...I know I messed something up lol...

  • @TheRyan123496 figured it out (least on mine)...make sure that your door button is in line with the BOTTOM of the door not the top...fixed it instantly

  • THANK YOU!!!!! I have been trying to do this for a while and couldn't get it! THANK YOU SO MUCH!

  • Thanks sooo much! This is perfect for my mansion!

  • great video i got it working :D

  • Thanks so much man! I couldnt understand why my right door (on the outside) would close when a current was applied to it, and when I stopped the current, it would open.

I finally went to youtube for a double door tutorial and yours was the best. :)

  • I followed everything you did but when I finished and went to try it only the door on the left (from the inside) went open and it wouldn't shut and everything just stops... could it be because I'm on my friends SMP server? if so what can I do to fix it? please help me I really want this to work

  • Just noticed, with the NOR Latch, why do the doors shut when you get through them?

  • @HiatusLucari The moment you step on the inner pressure plates, it sends a signal to the reset line on the RS NOR Latch, so it's no longer keeping the doors open. The tricky part is that the same pressure plates are also directly connected to the doors, so they hold the door open directly. Then when you step off of the pressure plates, neither they nor the RS NOR Latch are keeping the doors open, so they close.

  • @TaviRider Ah, thank you. I watched the video again and had gotten lost a bit. There's a separate circuit going directly from the pressure plates to the doors. That explains it. Thanks.

  • @augnbanana Right click instead of left click. I still forget sometimes and destroy the button.

  • How did you press the button with "instantmine" on?

  • @augnbanana right click

  • Can you do one for the one with the lever lock from the inside?

  • @MrReed501 Sure, I'll see if I can get that one done tonight. If not tonight, then it'll be Sunday or Monday.

  • @MrReed501 I already have a video showing off those doors. It's at v=-wZn2nW7RTg. It's not a "how to make" video, but maybe it's close enough?

  • @TaviRider Hey I hope you don't mind, but I just discovered a way to use some of the designs for the doors for the 1.7 update of Pistons. I would be glad to send you a video of it so you can work on it. Unfortunately the design I made won't keep the piston open long enough... I though I could send it to you and you could change it and make it better? It's fairly simple really...

  • @zezzima792 Hey, have you tried using a RS NOR latch? I'm not sure exactly what your problem is, but if a redstone signal isn't long enough, create a RS NOR latch and set it up with repeaters so that when the state is on, after a while, the signal will hit the reset block. PM me if you didn't understand :D

  • A response to your comment about the vertical redstone getting cut off by the dirt: I've found that you can use glass blocks and the signal still goes through. It won't look quite as nice but I use it to block off redstone that I couldn't entirely hide away (or leave maintenence access open by marking where I should enter with glass). Obviously in this instance it doesn't matter since there's cobblestone above it but in other situations it might be helpful

  • How do you get stacks of 64 that stay at 64 no matter what.

  • @Jabcs4101 It's a combination of TooManyItems and Single Player Commands mods.

  • Tavi i have a big challenge for you! try to make a drawbridge!

  • I had great luck with this door! So many new uses with this latch! It's important that the doors don't receive redstone power while they are placed, or the whole thing will be screwed up! Had to go back through and fix this while building in a realistic application

  • @BenPlaysMC Good point... I guess I never noticed that issue about placing the doors when they're powered because I always place them first.

  • Are you the same tavirider from gg2?

  • @ch96li Yup! I haven't played once since shutting down the server.

  • if you see this plz help

I made the doors. they work but now they wont work and i don't know why I think it might be the rs nor lach and bother of the torches are off?

  • @3clayman If it was working fine and then stopped working, it's probably Minecraft's fault. Save your world and close Minecraft entirely, then reload. That sometimes solves weird redstone problems.

  • I new how to wire double doors so I almost did not watch this video. But When I saw how you optimized the hole system i was very impressed. I nerver new how to make an r/s nor latch like that before and to wire the right side door I would have never new how you made it so compact. Amazing! the area I would have had to work in before seeing your video was more like 4x15 under the doors. Although the end result is the same. I am now a fan of how you do things.

  • @cascoll2000 I know exactly what that's like. Optimizing redstone seems like a neverending process. These doors have had a lot of attention by a lot of people before I posted this video, and still a couple commenters pointed out two optimizations to this that make it smaller and use fewer resources.

  • Are you an engineer or electrician?

  • @bobhappyman Computer programmer. My computer science classes included computer engineering, which is where I learned about logic gates.

  • Complicated yet so awesome

  • dude you r a genius you rival ethos lab and hes a braniac oh and ive ben stuck on this so long i didnt kno that there was another rs latch i used the flat one made me confuzzled

  • @PortaPotamess There's at least 19 different RS NOR Latches. In my World of Redstone I've built and tested every single one of them. If you already understand redstone well enough to be using RS NOR Latches, you may find my World of Redstone really useful.

  • @TaviRider i did downloaded your world its EPIC but i get confused with some of it

  • @PortaPotamess Any areas I can try to explain for you?

  • @TaviRider just an in depth explanation and uses of every gate

p.s. i think it would make a good video

  • @PortaPotamess One of my early videos is called "TaviRider's Hall of Circuits tour". That's the precursor to the World of Redstone. Maybe that will help?

  • @TaviRider yah i saw all your videos that one was good but it didnt show uses and thats y i get bored with redstone cant find me any uses

  • @PortaPotamess Okay, I'll put that on my list of future videos--not just how they work, but situations where you would use them.

  • @MissAliiciaxXx3 I read every comment. The comments here and on Reddit have given me a lot of my ideas.

  • You sir, show good tutorials

  • TaviRider! TaviRider!

  • I used to only watch your vids when I saw them on reddit. then I subbed. :D Your minecraft science videos almost make me want to get back into minecraft. :L

  • @AlmightyWerd Come back to Minecraft! You know you want to! When pistons become official Minecraft will become even more interesting.

  • There seems to be enough space down there for a monster to spawn (I could be wrong though). Should I include a regular torch to prevent monsters from spawning below the door?

  • @Llarthel I'm not sure about the size necessary for monsters to spawn. I did learn last night that redstone torches aren't bright enough. A torch seems like a good idea.

  • VERY useful. Excellent explanation of how everything works.

  • it doesn`t work for me

  • Dude

    you own

  • I feel awesome for finally having made something before i learned how from one of your video, but I only could only figure out one door

  • I GET R-S-NOR-LATCH-... things... FINALY

  • Another... MINER detail...

  • I asked for this tutorial yesterday, thank you so much! I will implement it into my world right away

  • I've been running into a bit of a problem with your door system here... on SMP, I've found it to be very finicky. I had it working fine for a bit, an exact replica of this tut, then my wolf walked over the pressure plates and held the doors open for several moments.

Afterward, they didn't close on their own, and I think he probably caused the torches to burn out to where they're not properly lit in the right order, which screwed the whole thing up. Is there any protection against this?

  • @Aerofluff Torches burn out if they're toggled too quickly. They un-burn-out after several seconds though.

If your torches are repeatedly burning out, it may be because you have an accidental loop in your circuits. The most likely place for that is if you have a sand block on top of the right torch of the RS NOR Latch. That space has to be clear.

  • where did you learn all this stuff?

  • @ihatecoeguy The Minecraft wiki, the Minecraft subreddit, the Minecraft Forums "red stuff" thread, and lots of tinkering. Mostly the wiki though.

  • @TaviRider with all your knowledge of redstone are you ever going to make one of those insane machines thats massive and does some random thing like a calculator

  • @ihatecoeguy I've been working on a big project involving pistons. They're kinda buggy though... it's been frustrating. I wanted to wait until pistons become official, but that day seems farther and farther off all the time. Anyway, stay tuned. I hope to have a big build that will amaze people.

  • @TaviRider omg i think you just broke the record for the fastest ever youtube reply

  • @ihatecoeguy YouTube sends me an email for every comment people make. My phone makes a 1UP sound within seconds.

I have a LOT of extra lives now.

  • @TaviRider while i got you will you ever make a server for poeple make their own creations with redstone and show you and other poeple difrent designs?

  • @ihatecoeguy Running a server is very time consuming. I know because I used to be a mod on Reddit's servers. I'd rather work on new Minecraft constructions and making videos.

Maybe I could do something like Deadmau5 did... He doesn't run Mau5ville, but it's still "his" server. Anyone wanna run TaviRider's Creative Server for me? :)

  • @TaviRider well you know there are companies that will host servers on dedicated boxes for money and i do happen to have a credit card and some money laying around

  • @ihatecoeguy I really appreciate the offer. If it's going to be "my" server, I'd want to pay for it. And that's not a problem either. I can scrape together the money for that.

But that's still not the hard part. It's wrangling the user base that takes a lot of time: detecting and banning griefers, promoting mods and additional admins, reverting griefer damage, and so on. For a successful public server you really need one or two mods on at all times, and admins on a lot too.

  • @TaviRider im sure you could find a company that puts mods on the server pretty easly many which could also be anti greifing methods and sense you make videos priamrily about redstone which the average minecrafter probably doesnt understant I doubt you would get all the idiot greifers and with a vote ban system in the case of greifing incident the players could stop. but now i have to look for a new use for the 100 dollars laying on the floor

  • @ihatecoeguy I have a good use for the 100 dollars! No, really! I'll send you a private message...

  • I love your tutorials! By the way, you're four subscribers short of 1,337!

  • @Tombonuts Not anymore. ^.^

  • love ur vids. so funny, you should show the one that has 1 plate each side. and opens both doors both sides.

  • @bubbagreen29 There's nothing to show. That's the entire setup! Two doors, one plate on each side.

  • @TaviRider i mean different double door setups. i have ur map BTW, its epic.

  • 1 guy clearly doesn't understand this

  • I knew how to make this, but still watched it through because your videos are so enjoyable. Another awesome easy to follow video.

  • What can't you do with red stone?

  • @elyk0956 walk on water :P

  • @elyk0956 I tried to prove that P=NP. The calculation is still running.

  • been trying to find a good double door tutorial for soo long. good thing i subscribed to u before

  • Where do I upvote WHERE!? oh wrong website...

  • Is it possible to make it so pressing the button twice would close the door after, should you decide not to go inside? (stupid question, it is possible)

How would you do that in the most efficient way?

  • @rlukaszewski Lessee... Start with a T Flip-Flop, with the output connected to the doors. The button would connect to the normal input to the T Flip-Flop. You can also explicitly set most T Flip-Flops to a specific state. The pressure plates would connect in this way, forcing the T Flip-Flop to its "off" state so the doors will be closed.

  • @TaviRider you are.... amzing

  • This is a very useful design, I'll be using it in my world i think.

  • Thats awesome. But just asking could you do a tutorial video to redstone. Its awesome what you can do with it, but i don't what i can do with it.

  • @24bones3 I could do a very basic tutorial... but let me suggest something else first: Could you download TaviRider's World of Redstone and go through the "Redstone Basics" section to see if that helps?

  • @TaviRider where can i download this world?

  • read description.

  • @TheMreaster There's a link in the description of the video.

  • Comment removed

  • Do you have to step on both pressure plates to close the doors, or can you step on just one?

  • @RyanRoboticist Stepping on either one works. The redstone beneath them is connected, so they have the same effect.

  • Your tutorials are awesome, very easy to listen to and understand, and you fully show everything you've done.

  • "little known fact... creepers don't have fingers" hahahaha

  • wow! you seem to explain even the most complicated things with ease! Bravo!!!

  • i love you tutorials like this! theyre simple things, but fun to watch and gives me great ideas. please make them more frequently =D

  • 3 vids in one day? awesome!

  • @silver639 Don't get used to it. :)

  • Thanks for these. I love watching them, even though I'm not much of a redstone enthusiast. I like playing with it, though, and these always give me some ideas.

  • Its may 2nd?

  • Now, do the one that has the lever to disable the outside doors.

  • for the dirt problem glass lets you place it and it i will still work but its a glitch
