What's amazing about this film-(and also, A Mighty Wind and Spinal Tap) is that the musical/theatrical stuff is not so wildly laughable that it's over the top. Chris Guest strikes a wonderful balance between earnest and heartfelt affection for the material and the obvious goofiness.

Don't know if you other Guffman freaks do this, but I can tell how much, or how little I will get along with another person based on their reaction to the movie. It really is that seminal, to me. Maybe I put to much stock in a movie, but the test has yet to fail me.

I think Guest gets a little "cut happy" sometimes. This is sooo funny I don't care why he left it out, shoulda left it in. Obviously made to be the centerpiece. IMO, of course.
