In fact I think those pickups have more twang than the other Gibson. But you cannot compare that kind of soft twang with the brilliant tone of the Tele. So, smoother than a tele/strat but twangier than a Les Paul or I don't know. Well, good sound, great player.
Thanks. I didn't intend for the left hand to be out of the picture. I turned on the camera, sat in a chair with my guitar and hit record. This was the first guitar video I posted. I personally think they gotten progressively better over the last year. I posted over 50 of them. Just for fun of course.
@murff625 Nice to know you gig with a Deluxe Reverb--I also play one, a '69. I am shopping for an ES 339 and that's what brought me here. Therefore, I get a reasonable idea of what my tone would be.
I do hear the Beano thing; however, Robben also is a big Cream era Clapton fan and perhaps that's the Robben connection I hear.
I've got to pick up a few tracks like this to improvise over--I love your take on this groove. No over playing or "Look ma, no hands!" Great work! Very nice...
@murff625 Yeah, I usually play a '52 RI Tele--I have a killer Dot ES-335--just don't like gigging it.
The last few years the Blues gigs have all but disappeared here (N Cali), or the ones that pay. Hopefully if I do a more Blues and Rock thing some nice gigs will open up.
Also, nice to get a more 'Rip' tone and play with serious sustain. I can always bring a Tele or Strat; however, nothing will replace the pure Gibson humbucker tone. The ES 339 should fill the void and it'll be a blast!!
@Stratolespaul80 - Thanks. It's kind of strange but Larry Carlton is not really an influence. I like him but I had already been playing for a while before I became aware of Carton. The guitar is a coincidence. I'm normally a Tele player but wanted a Cherry Red Gibson but got this one because they were out of ES-339s in Cherry. In my mind I think I'm doing Clapton.
The sides are mahogany colored and the back is sunburst. The grain is visible on the back of the neck. It's not the skinny neck. It's a very sweet playing and sounding guitar.
A couple of questions about the guitar if you don't mind. What color is the back and sides of the guitar and also the back of the neck, is it a dark wood stain that you can see the wood grain through or is it a solid black paint? Also do you have the 30/60 neck or the rounded '59 neck. I really enjoyed your playing, very nice.
Thanks. I love the 339. I fits like a glove to me. Very resonate. I've been a Tele player for many many years but the ES-339 has become my "go to" guitar.

Awesome blues jam!! Only -- your left hand spends 75% of the time out of the screen. Hiding your riffs from the "riff-raff"? haha

Great playing! I'm after this exact guitar. I just can't quite get the cash together just yet.

Very nice shuffle--sounds a bit like Robben to me--not Larry.
You have your own voice--outstanding playing ...

@absurdplanet - Thanks. I love Robben and love his tone. When I listen to this I think I'm kind of doing a Bluesbreakers era Clapton.

@absurdplanet - I've been having a love affair with my ES-330 for the last 2 years. I'm a long time Tele player. I just try to be musical.
