in michigan u have to have a 2yr degree in criminal justice or private investigation degree. to become licensed u must work under a person with a license for 3 yrs and have 10,000 dollars for insurance. :p

i live in ohio, do you know if i need to have a license to investigate for a private firm as an independent investigator would? the reason i ask is because i need 2 years experience before i can be licesnsed in ohio

In Oregon you just have to know attorneys who you can work for. Depending on what you are going to do. You can always follow cheating spouses and make good money but personally I can't stand that kind of work. I do Criminal Defense and it is all about who you know. Attorneys don't like to just hire anyone they need to know someone (another investigator or attorney) who can vouch for you. Once your working attorneys will vouch for you and if you do a good job it is easy to keep cases flowing.
