this month the entire christian world will celebrate the birth of CHRIST.

But twelve families will have a sorrowful Christmas .TEN SOLDIERS & two civilians WERE AMBUSHED &KILLED a DAY(12/14/10) Before the truce. in northern SAMAR..A father,a mother , a son,& a daughter had losT a love one this Christmas

Those soldiers could have been thinking about spending their Christmas with their family but instead they were mercilessly killed by the NPA.

If this is true, this is such a horrible and merciless act by the NPA especially that two civilians died there. But, maybe it's true that when a rebel dies, one or two family member will pick up a rifle and become rebel themselves. This cycle will never end. May the souls of those who died rest in peace.

Modernization of military not only means new weapons and equipment. I should mean re-education of its soldiers so that they know how to deal with civilian population. Ganyan ang strategy ng mga terrorists para di sila isumbong ng mga tao and para may mga bago recruit lagi. Ang problema ang mga sundalo at pulis natin abuso katulad ng mga sa Ampatuan massacre. We need to professionalize our AFP-PNP. They act like warchiefs from Africa

I dont ever know why we always buy US product which is more expensive than russia, Russian made is also gud quality they build tougher tanks can compete to US M1A2, In terms of rifles one thing i don't like on AK is sometimes its jam but in terms of fire power i like it.

I think we should stop relying on the USA as a source of weapons and equipment. Russia can supply us with the same technology at half the cost. The AK47 as an example has built the armies of many developing nations. With the cost of 1 M16 we can probably buy 2 AKs. This should equip our soldiers with brand new weapons that will have lesser chances of failing in the field

So, modernization nga ba ang solusyon sa problema sa insurgency? Madali namang pulbusin ang mga rebelde. Kayang kaya ng AFP. During the Estrada administration we had an all-out-war and the AFP were successful in capturing several MILF camps, di ba? But, did it solve the problem? Siguro kung tatanungin ang NPA kung may kamag-anak ba sila na namatay na NPA, baka marami sa kanila ay OO ang sagot. But, modernization of the armed forces improves state capacity so it is something positive.

With regards to the Spratly dispute, a national security official said that the truth is that the Philippines could not engage China because we lack modern military assets especially naval assets. If we buy all those, we might be devoting 100% of our GDP in defense and yet we're still not par with the great powers. It's why we're using other mechanisms and one of those is diplomacy and good office.

What are the conditionalities of the VFA? Could we use it in our defense against the "bullying" of China? Is there any automatic retaliation condition? As far as I know, the VFA is merely an exercise. Do we have the KIG in the map? Baka kung may auto retaliation ay matechnicality co'z ala sa mapa natin ang KIG? hehe. Some people say that we get more AIDS than military AID with the VFA.

Thanks for the comment. Indeed, Filipino soldiers are one of the greatest in the world. The first and only victory of the French during the Vietnam War was at Dien Bien Phu made possible by the deployment of Filipino troops there. Most of the French soldiers caught a tropical illness and die even before the start of the battle. Galing noh? :)
