  • i have sonar........:-)

  • I found Logic to be more user friendly

  • hey man,

I need some help printing out from the staff view panel, do u know how is it done?

    thnx

  • Forgive my naivete, but I'm seeing several different DAW products on the Cakewalk page. I see "Home Studio 6", "Music Creator 5", and "Sonar 8". Can you explain the difference between these DAWS and their functions?

  • somebody knows what song its in the background ? thank you !

  • The background song for this video was created by Tom Bier - a former Cakewalk aficionado - title unknown

  • If you need help with a certain product, please be specific. We will try to answer your questions here but there are other resources you can look to for help. Did you try the support pages or user forums on Cakewalk's website?

  • I do have a question. I am a former user of Cool edit pro. I had a mixing tip that evened out my voice so it didnt go in and out. You know how when you record something how when u look at the voice after you record it it gets bigger and smaller? Well with the mixing tip i used it would keep it all at the same decibel. How can i do this with cakewalk sonar le?

  • Just pm me

  • I am trying to figure this program out but im so confused...

    HELP!!!!

  • QUESTIONS ANSWERED (be specific)

  • I don't think I am going to buy MC, i can't even download a demo

  • I bought it today actually.. Still haven't installed it cause my computer is at Geek Squad. Get it back tomorrow though. But yes, the manual is is thorough. Pictures, good walk through, its pretty nice.

  • hitthemniggazwitha44 ,does it comes with a paper manual ?

  • Yes, there is a manual in the box - it's very easy to follow compared to past products. There is also a support section on our website that may help you further.

  • It's just like Sonar. I like it better. I haven't got any of the newer versions though. I bought CMC up to 3.0 and I played around with a Sonar download (free hacked version I think but it worked) but I never went back to Sonar if that tells you antyhing.

  • I am thinking to buy Music Creator 5, does it have a paper manual and how long and detailed is it? While I am no nerd,I don't like skimpy manuals or manuals with no pictures, etc

  • i have Cakewalk music creator 3.. and i need some major help! anyone??

  • i can't figure out how to do anything with this...am i able to record my acoustic and vocals through the computer alone?

  • im pulling up the midi devices but everytime i press okay it says that i havent selected any! please help

  • hey. im having trouble recording my guitar onto cakewalk using a usb guitar cord. the light on the cord turns green which means its ready to play, but when i try i don't get any sound on the recorded track. does anybody know what could be going wrong.

  • did you arm the track?

  • hey ReApErZ666 you may have to select the usb as the input device for the program, it might choose a different recording device than your usb by default.

  • Hi,

Im having a hard time trying to get my ensoniq sq1 synth to record audio into my music creator 3 software. I use the Lexicon Omega as my soundcard. It can pick up my externam drum machine fine, but i want to record audio with the ensoniq into the music creator software and its not picking it up at all. Please help. Thanks

  • by the way that is a cheap microphone and i wouldn't reccomend it for anything at all. Invest big in mikes. always.

  • I can't get my Samson Q1U to let me record in cakewalk. Can anyone help me please?

    Thank you, Jake.

  • its possible, you have to change the driver settings to Asio4all after u download it off the net.

Then restart cakewalk, then change the inputs and outputs and restart again. Then go in and change the latency to your best of recording and playback.

  • dude i jus want to record audio and mix it... how can i hook up my mic and record audio on this program?

  • have you figured it out im tryin to get audio and i caant

  • there's a free program called audacity, if you just want to record, use it, all you need is a mic and some noise to put in. theres also a tonne of different ways you can edit the track, as well as an unlimited amount of tracks you can create

  • can i play a cd with my mom and i singing with the piano and add instruments to this recording with music creator 4? And how do I do this? Any help is greatly appreciated!!

  • Qualitypool.

Insert the cd that you wish to "rip" music from into your computer..In music creator Go to File-Import-Audio Cd. Choose the track from the cd you wish to import.. Click ok. This will transfer the audio from the cd into an audio track in music creator. Then you can open up audio tracks below that one and record whatever you wish. Hope this helps

  • Solime50

Thank you so much! I so appreciate it!

  • Solime50

Sorry, didn't realize my son was logged in as bdaz302! Any way thanks for your help!

  • Im having problems...i cant get audio to record and it says i have no usable audio things...what do i do?

  • can i make rock music? such has AC/DC and ozzy osbourne type of music

  • I've put a great deal of thought into Sonar HS 6. I want to sync my audio and videos without going through the roundabout method of exporting an mp3 from Audacity, importing the mp3 into my video editor, and then editing my video to fit the audio rather than the other way around.

What I can't find out is whether Sonar HS has the audio editing capabilities I'd need. What engineering capabilities does it possess besides musical composition? Does it have a vocoder? (my vocab may be inaccurate)

  • please I need to record in my sonar 6, in this moments is droop out, all the system are ok, I can listen but No recording, please someone to help me with this ,,thanks

    can you :)

  • thank you Nick for you attention, i have all ready work perfect in my sonar 6, thanks a lot, have a very good day,, keep in touch,,

    peluzzas :)

  • i have an m-audio midi and it is not recognizing that it is there

    What do i do?

  • First off make sure that your keyboard and I/O are on before you open your software. The software does an automatic scan to search for midi devices while opening. If that doesnt solve the problem go to Options-Midi Devices, and click on the midi inputs and outputs you are wanting recognized. Once again make sure that the devices are on before opening your program or they wont appear in the Midi devices input and output selection. Hope this helps.

  • This video goes way too fast.

  • is this better than adobe audition??

  • There are definitely more features in SONAR HS and Music Creator than in Adobe Audition.

Gives you more flexibility in what you can accomplish with your audio/recording projects.

    Best,

    Cakewalk :)

  • can u make beats with cakewalk???

  • you need a MIDI keyboard

  • yea if anyone has any info on what cords for this please let me know

  • sparky: are you saying cards? like audio interface cards? or chords? If the former is the question then please tell me your operating system. Is it vista 32 or 64 bit? Is it xp pro? Is it a mac?

  • This is no help to me!!!!!!!!!! How do I set up an an audio track. I tried to follow the directions but there are no audio signals when I play something. Hardware is better than software!

  • go to dustypuppy's youtube channel and ask him. He is offering help by video for everything cakewalk. Are you using a midi device? What kind of operating system do you have? Is the sound card on board or a separate card. There are a few things to consider so answer here or go to dustpuppy.

  • can sumone tell me how do you chopped and screw a track???

  • u need a DJ system

  • i need a programm for Hip-Hop music wich is easy to handle...

did some 1 knows such a programm ???

    massage me!!!

  • Haha, i'm not going to massage you. Not without payment.

  • check out their virtual instrument program and tanager software and sony acid music's 59 or so dollar package.

  • damn what the!! where can i download this?

  • can anyone tell us how to reduce noise when recording with sonar home studio, and also tell us how to turn up the bass and turn down the discant?

  • i am very sorry but im going to retype my question.... im doing a cover to a song to make a demo to give to a dj. i imported the instrumental to the song as an audio track. i want to record my voice over the instrumental but it just keeps gettin messed up.. my question is.. how do i record my voice over the instrumental without it sounding messed up?

  • Does this program have a sampling feaure? As in groove sampling that you can loop any section of imported audio? Like say you cut out a 2 bar drum sample from imported audio and then loop that throughout an entire song while adding any other instruments? And how many instruments are the in the program? And can you download more. Thank you very much.

  • Can you make a Beat and then Record yourself Rapping over da top ?? plz answer!

  • Can you edit voice or is there a decent text-to-speech feature?

  • Yes you can. Enjoy!

  • Can I record me playing guitar or import an audio file?

  • ok this is a rookie question for sonar users lol but because i couldnt see this before im still using cubase 3 sx ...how can u turn a metronone on , and also change the tempo and timing?

  • There is a field where you can type in the tempo and a button to turn the metronome on and off in the Toolbar

  • I have Music Creator 4 on my laptop and every time open it keep saying "there are no audio devices for the current driver model on your system. Please go to Options/Audio and choose a different driver model." but I've already try but there still no sound from the MIDI

  • You need to either plug in a MIDI device like a sound module to your MIDI ports or patch a virtual instrument and assign the output from teh track in order to hear sound from MIDI

  • Now it says ''Up to 160 total tracks (32 audio and 128 MIDI)'' does that mean once you record that many songs you cant record anymore again or does it mean thats all it can hold up to.If so can you delte a track and make more?

  • Songs are songs. You can make as many as you have room for on your hard drive. Tracks are the individual tracks in the song, for example, the bass, the guitar, vocals, drums, synth parts, etc. In Music Creator you can record 32 tracks of audio and 128 tracks of MIDI in any given song. You can also bounce tracks together if you need more.

  • how do i get the song to save as one track?

  • You can file | export a WAV file, or you can select all tracks and then Edit | Bounce to track

  • whats the difference between music creator 4 and sonar home studio 6? they are both priced very differently but look the same?

  • These videos cover entry level features that are the same between teh two programs. SONAR Home Studio offers more tracks, more effects, more editing capabilities, and more virtual instruments.

  • thanks, v-helpful for a begginer like me : )

  • Is it possible to connect a Motif 6 keyboard to this program? How?

  • You'll need a MIDI interface, or alternately if teh Motif connects directly to the PC, you will just need to enable the MIDI input in Settings | MIDI Devices

  • I have a laptop and am currently using cakewalk music studio 4. Although, there is no sound. I called my laptop's company and said that there should be sound. I tried again...and still doesnt have sound. I read through ur brochure and it read that: "Laptops can use an audio PCMCIA card." Will this card be able to solve the audio problem on my laptop????

  • how do i use vst plug-ins, and v-vocal with music creator 4?

  • V Vocal does not come with Music Creator 4, you would need to upgrade to SONAR Producer Edition. To use VST Plug ins just right click in teh FX Bin and insert them.

  • are there violin, cello presets on creator 4

  • Yes there are

  • WHERE IS THE OUTPUT DROP DOWN MENUE

  • how do u make beats on this cuz i can't

  • Patch a virtual instrument. Select a drum kit. Record a beat, or step enter a beat using the Piano ROll

  • Will HS 6 read my old GT Pro .wrk or .bun files?

  • Yes it should

  • Hey, I have Sonar 7 and Vista, but after reccording, I try to add an effect. Nothing works. I have a few other vst plug ins, but every thing from Audio Clean-up to Vorbis Encode filter all dont work. I am up to date with patches... any suggestions?

  • Ok, some effects that should not show up in SONAR from CD burning applications will show up on the list, but do not do anything, you can remove those with the plug-in manager. Try adding something that ships with SONAR like one of the Sonitus FX.

  • what sound cARD IS WORK WHIT VISTA, i have sonar6, the card is Realtek hight definition, is droop out whe start recording,,,thanks

  • Hello, your card will work with Vista, you just need to adjust some of the settings in Settings | Audio Options. Go to the Cakewalk Website, click on Support, Select the link for the FAQ, then look at the question for setting up your Audio Interface.

  • does M-Audio products work in this program?

  • Yes they do.

  • sorry for double post... can i use the mic build into my computer with this program?

  • You should be able to, but just so you know those mics were not made for recording so the sound will not be that good.

  • i would like imput from anyone who has this software. it looks good, but im looking for the easy controls of garage band. can you manually edit the placement on of the note so that it is precisely on the beat? do i need a keyboard? please message me on my page. thank you

  • Yes you can manually edit the placement of the notes so it is precisely on the beat. Or you can use Quantize and have it done automatically. Or you can use "Input Quantize" and have it happen as you record the notes. A keyboard is optional buy I find one helpful.

  • helloo, ive created a full song with sonar 6 and have mixed it and adjusted the pan perfectly, but the whole song just comes out of one speaker. my mic is mono but i was told i could still make it stereo, how do i make the sound come out of both speakers??

  • Have you been recording stereo tracks with your Mono Mic? If you have, there's a chance that you are recording to only one side of the stereo track. If your tracks are stereo, but recorded to 1 side of the stereo field then no matter how you pan, the tracks will always come out of 1 side. By default, the 1st input selected uses both left and right. Figure out which siide you are recording on, then select either the left or right input to record. You can then pan the tracks when you mix.

  • If this is the case with your existing song, you can export your individual tracks as wave files. When you export select the option to separate left and right as mono tracks. You can then re-inport your tracks as mono files and rebuild the song.

  • Is your song really panned perfectly? What I mean is when you play it from SONAR do you hear it from both speakers, but when you export it, the wave file or MP3 only comes out of one speaker.

  • why do i keep on hearin' a scratchin' sound when i open up a audio to listen to?

  • yeah i bought music creator 4 hoping that it would be easy to make beat....but i cant even get any sound or create any beat at all.........help?........or imma return it

  • Please describe what you are trying to do, and the process. You may be missing a step (like turning on input monitoring), or you may just need to set your audio options correctly (youtube does not allow links to be posted, go to cakewalk dot com slash support slash newfaq.asp and read number 1, 3, and 18) Those are the likely causes.

  • do we need a real instrument to make beats or something? And wat is a audio card? do we have to go buy it seperately to make music?

  • No, you can make beats using the Piano Roll View, even if you don't have a real instrument. YOu just point and click in teh piano roll to make the right sound appear at the right time. Or you can import ACID loops. (there are hundreds for free on the web or you can buy libraries of pre-recorded beats)

  • An audio interface is the way your computer takes the audio inside and turns it into a signal that you can hear. DO you have speakers or a headphone jack on your PC? If yes, then you have an audio interface. You need this to make sound.

  • I couldn't get any sound?

  • i have this

and i have all crappy quality instruments in it

theres only about 4 different instrument

  • DO you have Music Creator or Home Studio. Both of them have much more than 4 instrument sounds.

  • my music creator isnt recording any advice?

  • You should probably contact tech support.

  • (((2nd part))) I install it and yet there is no sound because of no inputs and/or outputs... Whats going on? the only thing that seems to give a hint that might help me( But not getting anywhere) is this output in my desktop comp (Wind. XP) (since I have CWMS3 in it) that is giving me sound: Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth. What am I missing in my laptop that makes CWMS4 not having sound? I Would be heartfelted and more than welcomed if I can get the solution! Thanks Cakewalk.

  • Are you using a laptop sound card? You Tube will not allow me to insert a link here. Go to Cakewalk dot com slash support slash hardwaresetup. Find your audio interface, then follow the directions on how to set it up.

  • I recently bought a laptop (compatable with vista) and decided to install Cakewalk Music Studio3. I tried to play the MIDI instruments but there were no sound. I checked the output and input of the CWMS3 (CAkewalk Music Studio3), but there werent any. SO I called Cakewalk's customer service and told them the situation.Luckily, they forwarded me to Cakewalk Music Studio 4 where its windows vista compatable. (((read 2nd comment for finished inquiry)))

  • ...any help?

  • Hi, this might seem like a beginner question but I've been using Sonar Home Studio 6 to record digital audio with my line 6 tone port. I've read some of the tutorials and created some tracks, but when I export my creations into mp3 format, the audio volume is really low, despite me raising the volume controls. How can I fix this?

  • I have music creator 4 and I was told that there were premade "jingles" on the software. I have been trying to find out how I can reach these... Can you help at all?

  • File | open there should be some pre-made projects you can open. Please note, depending on your set up, You may need to assign a virtual instrument in order to hear them. There may also be projects on the disc if you didn't download it.

  • thank you but, can i put these things in a new project made by me?

  • Is there anyway to make customized music with each beat or melody? Not a whole sequence.

  • I don't understand what you are asking. Could you ask again in a different way?

  • Okay, it's like MTV Music Generator. I would like to know how to get 1 sould for each instrument. Okay here we go 1 note for each instrument. I don't wanna have to buy that instrument thing because I have MC4 and I don't know how to play music instruments, never learned.

  • You can set up separate tracks with different instruments. If you don't know how to play you can step enter the notes you want in the piano roll or staff view, or use MIDI or audio loops.

  • Thanks.

  • I am having the same problem, I imported a wave file and when I press play, nothing happens!! even on the demo songs I am having a problem it plays but you cant here anything!! can you help me out?

  • Your Audio is not set up correctly or you don;'t have an output set on the track. Watch our Video "How to set-up Audio & MIDI Recording on a PC" You can find it in teh Music Creator playlist.

  • I imported an mp3 under the file menu and the import option but it wont play it and i cant get it to, it wont play anything i import, what should I do?

  • When you hit play, does nothing happen at all or does the now time start to move but no sound comes out?

  • nothing happens at all

  • Are you using a laptop sound card? You Tube will not allow me to insert a link here. Go to Cakewalk dot com slash support slash hardwaresetup. Find your audio interface, then follow the directions on how to set it up

  • Is there only the basic piano sounds in here that you can play on the keyboard? When I bought this today I cant figure out how to play a different kind of sounding piano. Im trying to make techno/dance type of music...is there any way I can download different tones/sounds? Thanks for any help.

  • Hey there. Insert | Virtual Instrument. Then select from the instruments that are on the list. When the Plug-in loads you can select from multiple presets for different sounds.

  • I just download music creator 4, but it will not opened. What should I do?

  • Please contact tech support

  • I don't know were to stated with this software, need help.

  • oh... I was under the impression that it came with sounds that I could make a beat with. It says on the box "comes with thousands of sounds"...therefore I thought I could take those sounds and make beats...

  • You were under the right impression. If you have a Midi input like a piano you can open a midi track. Then choose a certain sound and record that. If you don't have a midi input you can open the piano roll and end up spending hours editing in the piano roll. I recommend getting a midi input.

  • Yes, there are thousands of sounds, but to make a beat you need to program it or play it. I was going to explain that after we got you capable of recording audio, but it is a little more involved. You can also import with loops, which may be the fastest way for you to get a beat.

  • Where is the "make beats" button... Where is the "record audio" button... this program is crap if you're new to this.

  • Milen, you bought a tool. It's up to you to learn how to use the tool. I understand that you are frustrated, and I'll help you out, but I would appreciate it if you not use such negative language. You bought a multitrack recorder. There is no "make beats" button in a multitrack recorder. You need to record, program, or import your beats.

  • As far as recording audio that's easy and we'll start there. Set your input on a track to where you have what you want to record plugged in. Hit the R button on the track, that "arms" it for recording. Check your levels on the meters, if they go red turn down what you have plugged in, it's too loud. Then hit the record button which is top and center next to the play button, it looks like a dot in a square. You should then start recording.

  • Watch the video I am going to respond with for more details. Once you figure out audio recording, write back and I'll teack you how to make a beat.

  • email support is bs... I need someone real to talk to on the phone about how to do this. I've watched the videos and read the instructions and I'm still as frustrated with this program as I was the day I brought it home. The instructions acts like I'm already supposed to know what features do and I don't. All I want to know is how do I record my voice and make beats...thats all.

  • I just bought the program a few days ago. It seem nice but the instructions are worthless. No instructions on how to use features. These videos are not even for creator 4.I need real help from this company. You guys are the best why such poor support and instructions?

  • Hello all of the functionality shown in these videos are identical between Music Creator 4 and SONAR Home Studio. The printed instructions are basic, but the online help is very extensive. Hit F1 and see for yourself. You are also eligible for free email tech support from Cakewalk, and the Music Creator User forum on the Cakewalk website is very helpful.

  • I just bought music creater 4 and I'm trying to make beats and record voice audio... any ideas on how I would do this?... im so confused :(

  • Watch the videos up here to start. Then read the getting started guide that came with the software. If you're new to this I know it may look confusing, but once you learn what the different features are you will be making music in no time.

  • Can you just plug a microphone into this and record and acoustic instrument? Also, does this program write out the sheet music for you like garageband?

  • Yes you can just plug-in an acoustic instrument and record it. Yes it will print out sheet music. However neither Home Studio or Garageband will convert acoustic instruments into sheet music. If you are playing an instrument that can play chords, that would require polyphonic pitch to MIDI conversion and no software on the market can do that. But you CAN play a MIDI keyboard and have it notate sheet music for you with SONAR Home Studio.

  • This is great, but what's the difference between Sonar 6 Home Studio and Music Creator 4? Also, can a person use any of the Cakewalk virtual instruments in Music Creator?

  • There are a number of editing features, and things like track count which are different between the two applications. The basic core functionality is the same. Yes you can use virtual instruments in both programs

  • i need help

  • If you are a registered owner you can contact Cakewalk tech support. The help is free with your purchase.

  • i just bought music creator 4 and i have windows and it wont open....ne1 have answers?

  • Also, can you quantize midi information from a controller device? And does the mixing board have individual equalizers?

  • Yes you can quantize MIDI information from a Controller. You can even correct MIDI timing as you input it with input quantize. The Mixer does not have individual EQs on each channel, but you can patch eqs every time you need one.

  • Hi, I saw this at Best Buy and I'm strongly considering switching from FL Studio 7 to this only because FL doesn't have a multitrack setup that you can record to, you have to save it and reopen it in the sequencer... Is there a demo for this so I can see if I'm going to have any issues with it?

  • Cool. There is a demo of SONAR Producer Edition that you can download at Cakewalk dot com. Home Studio is a scaled down version of this with less features, but the core functionality is the same. Hope you like it.

  • Why won't it run on my new Dell/Vista computer?

    By Very Unhappy.

  • It should run just fine. Call tech supoport I am sure it is just a configuration issue.

  • What is the number?
