  • I love this song! Rip Gene Pitney. Legend!

  • fuckin legendary bit of music from the 80's.

  • Saw Gene Pitney at Blackpool more years than i can remember ago but the performance lives forever as he sat on the edge of the stage and sang none stop for nearly 2 hours what a performer.

  • Yes Marc Almond was gay. But he did a lot of great music, and still does.

  • Gene Pitney was Genius Story Teller through Song

Also a huge perfectionist whether singing to 1 or 10,000

Even in Rehearsels no Errors allowed to slip through

Came to My Town EVERY UK Visit he made in his career

As to This Video :: Not a Marc Almond Fan

But if Gene chose Him the so be it & It worked

Unique & Unmistakable Pitney Power Voice

    Cheers The Forever (UK) TeddyBoy

  • Wow what a duet!! I miss you...Gene Pitney!!!

  • check out nick cave's version - creepy...

  • fuckin amazing, two megastars of the golden screens.

  • You can tell who has "The Voice."

  • sounds like in original video is great

  • This song can't leave you indifferent, it touches your soul, it touches your heart...Wonderful song, unforgetable duet. RIP great Pitney...

    From Lithuania-

  • It doesn't seem to matter what song Gene sings, he just sounds wonderful!. It will be a long time before someone moves me like he did, that's for sure.. he is a male Dusty and they are both gone, So sad ..

  • love this song...

  • bril wot can i say

  • Greatest emotional song of all times !

  • RIP Gene,your voice is awesome !!

  • Who would have thought these 2 singers as superb as they both are would sound great together? Fantastic...

  • Wonderful song writer too. Saw him in 1964 at Sutton Odeon live on stage. Awesome. One of my all time favorites. terrible to die so young. He had a standing ovation at his last concert in Cardiff the night before he died. He performed Town without Pity the last song he ever sang. Nominated song for Oscar and he won a Golden Globe with it. Great,,great artist.

  • love it gene pitney your the best

  • I think Gene was mighty generous on this video. Marc is fantastic but when Pitney opens his mouth, well.........

  • @Tonithenightowl I agree it was HIS song

  • @TheJan9902 Amen. His voice was so unique and powerful, you never had to ask if it was Pitney singing. Never. Thanks for responding it's always nice to meet another Gene Pitney fan :o)

  • gene and marc were both huge fucking music legends. and this song is ''art''

  • Wonderful duet! Gene Pitney voice goes off first turn of the key! wonderful!

  • I might even forgive one day Marc Olmond is gay after this performance lol.

  • @elyurita is Marc Alomond gay?

  • @BadEggCymru gay as puff, gay as "britain´s got talent", gay as elton john. I love them lol.

  • @elyurita i cant tell me

  • Gene is the salt & pepper in this duett.

  • I like da bouncing bits.

  • Its good, but much better with Gene on his own. Saw him in concert in Perth, Western Australia........sounds just a fab!!!!!!!!! miss him lots.

  • saw gene at ceaser's palace luton in 1976 also in 1979 and on one of the occasions can't recall which one his wife had had a baby that day

  • I saw him live at the Fiesta nightclub in Stockton on Tees , England around 1974 it was an exceptional and class act he put on, I really enjoyed and the fact that I still remember it 36 years later says it all

  • wish gene did this and his own version (late on with a deeper and better voice than in the 70's also better quality)

  • I love Gene!!! RIP

  • was born in devil red hot summer hellywood Vietnam.

If the Sun not shined for me, the Sun won't shine for anyone.

Peace never come to this world till everyone learn to cry.

From the hellywood to the hollywood, from the homeless shelter to the White-house.

From the poorest to the richest on Earth, from the slaves to the King-the Queen.

The Moon cannot shine, sometime dark sometime light.

The moon cannot make the World go around. There is no Mercy and Loyalty in the Moon.

  • from time to time I love to listen to this song...

  • this is about the music and song not about being gay or str8 pairing gene pitney and marc almond together was amazing perfect duet nothing else needed to be said thankyou for posting

  • Pff... ROTFLMAO... who's that freakin asshole looking straight into the camera, pretending Gene Pitney and "singing" one of his greatests songs? Who let that clown to do that?!

Gene had to be broke, letting this guy to "sing" it! Just look at Gene's face - he must suffer.. Unfortunatelly - money rules the world :/

  • @EyeScreamPL In all fairness Marc has a wonderful voice, he's the one that wanted to do this even before Gene knew who he was. They recorded their parts separately, Gene did it the way Marc wanted it done and the result was a huge hit in the UK. Gene said this gave a whole new generation the opportunity to hear this great song once again. Gene also said it's been many many years since he HAD to work, so don't confuse him with being broke. He just wanted to work.

  • my best song

  • This is the most beautiful song that ı've ever listened. First , ı listened it in a little bar in Salzburg in 1989 when ı was a student ; since then , it's my favorite song.

  • I remember listening to G.P. on the radio when I was a kid. He was one of my favorite singers. Wish I could have seen him in concert.!

  • While Marc is a great voice, turn back the clock 20 odd yrs, and listen to Gene's version. If he was going to share it with someone, glad it was Marc. Gene's voice is in a class of its own. Being from the states I never heard of Marc Almond but he's fantastic.

  • @Tonithenightowl U know USA did not want to publish this song cause it was two men singing together....

  • @ClubViking63 Ya know I never even gave that thought lol. But yes I can see why at that time(89) in the usa, it would have been an issue. It's not like they were giving each other the google eyes lol. They only ended up on stage together for a few bars of the song. Is Marc gay? Pitney was married 40 yrs.with 3 sons, so not sure the bias was aimed at him but maybe Marc? Whichever, it was a shame we never heard it here. Thanks for responding.

  • @Tonithenightowl Yes, Marc Almond is gay. But he is also one of my fav singers of all times. Loved him already at my High School days when he was a Synth star in Soft Cell. He has done maybe some 20 albums of his own and performed in Russia many times as he love Russian folk music.

  • Yeah, who would have thought that sperm could be that heavy

  • Good thing you don't live UK; I hear they have libel laws. If all you have to contribute is grotesquerie about an artist's personal life, can't you please get stuffed?

  • This song was playing in the background when I was having my hemeroids removed. Always takes me back there when I hear this.

  • Ahahahahahaha! Go bro go! XD

  • The "I'm going for a pint with Marc Almond - who's coming?" story is an urban myth. Go to Snopes website and search for Marc Almond; I can't link directly, for some reason.

  • He definately performed it with Gene Pitney again in the TOTP christmas special and that Marc wore a different jacket what i saw over the weekend what i got through from that year !!

  • wow, the definitive answer to the eternal question, "How wrong can you be?"

  • not so much...marc's got a pretty stellar voice...he can pull it off, but he's definitely putting a different vibe out there...one which gets the girls int he crowd screaming...i do prefer the way pitney sings it back in the 60s...

  • AMAN

  • Pitney adopts a very queer punky look...and the camp gestures to wit. Not bad, just kind of interesting. Great version of the song he initially premiered 20 years before!

  • The BBC is now world headquarters for MUSLIM DIVERSITY.

  • I heard this on indie/import radio in the late 80s. I LOVED their voices together.

Later Nick Cave did a cover - but it was never as good, I thought. It missed Gene.

  • Actually, Nick Cave covered this song before Marc Almond.

  • Yeah but Nick cave is shite...

  • right on pal!!!!!
