Not note really, I just use whats at hand. I boil the larva after blending them. The fat will float a cool on top of the water and can be removed (for tilapia). They are then added with about 2/3 part veggie matter that has been blended. I add a pinch of sea salt and a hand full of brewers yeast. It is then dried in a dehydrator to make a flake food and fed slowly. Its not perfect, but its cheap. I need a binder of some type.
Great philosophy! Two thoughts: take a look at incorporating red worms into your systems. Worm castings are invaluable for farming and make good fish food. Also research black soldier fly (hermetia illucens), great fish food and you could probably switch from your current job and get paid to pick up restaurant "trash" which you would feed to the BSF larvae.
I do use earth worms in my aquaponic grow beds. The earth worms process excess waste and speed the mineralization of solids and speeds the release of nutrients. I also have a home made BSF bin. At the end of the summer I dumped over 40 pounds of worms to the chickens. BSF can he blended and boiled, when cool you remove fat and re blend with veggies then dry into flakes to make great fish food. Avoids the fatty liver problem for tilapia.
I am hard at it expanding my food production system. Next up is ethanol, a long term composting toilet, outdoor kitchen, outdoor Japanese bath, solar hot water, solar hydrogen generator, and passive straw solar structure. Its all going to take a very long time for me to complete. Food and energy for the car are first priority because everything else really is pretty optional.
Thank you for this awesome video - what great ideas and an inspiration! My thoughts have been similar. This was like a spiritual "sermon": I felt inspired and like I could truly relate.
Profound! Thanks for putting this together. I am looking forward to more videos. Regarding aquaponics, can you recommend a book or a video? Thanks!

Do you have an exact recipe for the fish food made from BSFL and veggies? What are you doing with the fat you remove from the BSF?
