I don`t like Anette at all. She cant sing these good songs from old Nightwish... Her voice does not fit with them. And she does not belong in the same category with Tarja. But no one can please everyone.

I support both singers. Tarja is my goddess and nobody is better than her, but I she's left Nightwish. And that's really sad. But Tarja have really good solo career now and she doesn't miss Nightwish anymore, as she said. Tuomas chose Anette and people, please try to accept it.
To be honest, to me, this version is far superior to tarja's, the kick anette gives to the chorus and the rest of the song just sounds better. Not to mention she looks like she's having a fucking ball of a time which means so much in live performances rather than ice queen tarja. Ofcourse tarja's version is far more polished but Anettes can only get better.
Cant wait for a live album of all the songs or some of the oldies included in the next album as bonus tracks.

I think the majority of people who compare Annette, compare her live to the recorded versions, no shit tarja will sound better. Tarja's live performances are good, but not great, same with Annette

Anette is more a metal girl than Tarja, but the problem is that they have to change also the concept of the band, caus the band since the beginning has been wth a melodic voice so the music is more epic, now is mixed with rock and viking kind of voice that Anette has, so, i guess they're in a transtion to fix that up, i love tarja and i think she should be there, but now is anette so i expect they can make something great but they have to totally change the image and the music backwards.

Annette is not just a pretty singer. She's a performer. Look at her. She isn't scared, she's meant for the metal stage. Her power and skills grow with each performance. This band, now, is great. They always were, and continue to get better. I still support them.

i prefer Anette by a mile she looks better, she has a great voice maybe not opera suited voice but amazing unique and i think now songs sound better and when you see them live she doesnt stand in a single spot she gives this band alot more energy

I personally like Both Tarja and Anette but I tend to prefer Anette because her voice reflects an emotion of joy and innosence, some of the old NW songs that had deppressing lyrics or made me feel sad have an entire different meaning to me when I hear them from Anette :)

tarja sang this in head/soprano voice. anette sings this in CHEST voice. the voice you "talk" with. its incredible that she is able to do that this way.
@blackhoumor Not 100% correct, but close. Anette hits the high notes with belt voice, a trained technique that's anatomically quite contrary to head voice. But it is true, she also uses her chest voice a lot to give different parts of a song different meanings (like in Sleeping Sun, she starts with a soft little chest voice and makes the song grow into a strong belt voice ending). And belt voice still requires more strength of the vocal chords than head voice.

@blackhoumor Yes, it requires more strength of the vocal chords and you have to do it right or the voice takes damage. Plus, Anette is a mezzo-soprano and the high parts are written for soprano, that's outside of her (comfortable) range. A classical mezzo-soprano couldn't force herself to do that.
And there are so many reasons why people bash her, the most basic one being that people still don't want to accept the new situation.

Wooooott!!! GO NIGHTWISH!! Both Tarja and Anette are great singers. Nightwish is GREAT live and Tarja is doing great solo-stuff and great concerts and since I went to both of their concerts i'm quite allowed to say this ^^ I love music from the heart ^^
Her voice is not so powerful, too soft. she screams too much to catch the tune, in my opinion. And I will not say that it´s easy to sing this song!! And its not easy to walk in someone elses footprints. And singing live is much more difficult than singing in the studio.
Maybe her personality is not so strong and sovereignly like Tarja´s, so Anette does not get more attention than the band what maybe Tarjas ruin was.
For me Anette and Tarja are both great voaclists. But Nightwish is so great not only becouse of vocals but also becouse that they ve got such a great composer like Tuomas.

Annete singing is great but this Song just looses its essence when she sings it.Imagine the theme of this song - sadness,longing,lost,emptiness,desperation. All that, gone.
Anette's performance of Nemo at the Helsinki concert (last one of SSP tour) was better than this one. It's on youtube. And for those who complain: Anette is NOT trying to copy Tarja. She said it herself. She brought her own shoes to fill. It would be foolish to do that. There would be even more backlash. Anette is tech. doing a cover of Tarja's version of the old NW songs. And the point of a cover is NOT to upstage the original. It is to reinvent it in a new direction.

A lot of people complain about Anette's voice, or at least how she sings the old Nightwish songs. In my opinion, she was chosen to give the band a new perspective, they could have chosen another soprano singer like Tarja, but they didn't... I'm a big Nightwish fan since the band origins and it's all about the music and the poetry involved in the lyrics, the voice it's only a part of it....

I like both voices, but I prefer old nightwish. And I think, it's Nuclear Blast's fault that Nightwish is worse now.
Anette is not bad, but she's a pop singer.
Furthermore, Tarja, is not really an opera singer. I do classical voice and you especially hear it life. But this doesn't make it worse.

Annette is not just a pretty singer. She's a performer. Look at her. She isn't scared, she's meant for the metal stage. Her power and skills grow with each performance. This band, now, is great. They always were, and continue to get better. I still support them.

Imagine if Tarja had stayed with Nightwish in spite of her bad relationship with the members: the band would have continued to play songs and to write new ones, but would they be good? A friendly, respectful relationship, especially with the singer, is essential for the development of a band... And I do not think that somebody would like to see Nightwish split up. Think about it dumbasses.

I personally like Both Tarja and Anette but I tend to prefer Anette because her voice reflects an emotion of joy and innosence, some of the old NW songs that had deppressing lyrics or made me feel sad have an entire different meaning to me when I hear them from Anette :)

tarja sang this in head/soprano voice. anette sings this in CHEST voice. the voice you "talk" with. its incredible that she is able to do that this way.

@blackhoumor Not 100% correct, but close. Anette hits the high notes with belt voice, a trained technique that's anatomically quite contrary to head voice. But it is true, she also uses her chest voice a lot to give different parts of a song different meanings (like in Sleeping Sun, she starts with a soft little chest voice and makes the song grow into a strong belt voice ending). And belt voice still requires more strength of the vocal chords than head voice.

@blackhoumor Yes, it requires more strength of the vocal chords and you have to do it right or the voice takes damage. Plus, Anette is a mezzo-soprano and the high parts are written for soprano, that's outside of her (comfortable) range. A classical mezzo-soprano couldn't force herself to do that.
And there are so many reasons why people bash her, the most basic one being that people still don't want to accept the new situation.

Her voice is not so powerful, too soft. she screams too much to catch the tune, in my opinion. And I will not say that it´s easy to sing this song!! And its not easy to walk in someone elses footprints. And singing live is much more difficult than singing in the studio.
Maybe her personality is not so strong and sovereignly like Tarja´s, so Anette does not get more attention than the band what maybe Tarjas ruin was.

Anette's performance of Nemo at the Helsinki concert (last one of SSP tour) was better than this one. It's on youtube. And for those who complain: Anette is NOT trying to copy Tarja. She said it herself. She brought her own shoes to fill. It would be foolish to do that. There would be even more backlash. Anette is tech. doing a cover of Tarja's version of the old NW songs. And the point of a cover is NOT to upstage the original. It is to reinvent it in a new direction.

She is a pop singer and not an operatic singer. The new album is very poppy which she does very well but the older Nightwish Albums are OPERATIC, which Anette can't do. The fact that they even tried to play old Nightwish songs is a little bit insulting. I don't care that Tarja claimed she was Nightwish

Tarja is gone and will not be back, so if you want to carry the torch for her, that is fine, but stop trying to gain acceptence with others while whining about the lose. You can either stand still or get moving with the flow as which nightwish is going. Whining is like taking a piss in a dark suit, you get a warm feeling but nobody notices it or care. Anette is not even close to the singer in voice-capacity and only sells by flashing skin and boobs more. I don't have any statistics .. but I strongly doubt that NW sells as many records now as they did with Tarja on the mic.

And an personal opinion, Tuomas is the reason for Nightwish's great succes, not any of the vocalist.. even though the numbers speaks for itself: Anette is not ruining Nightwish, they have never been more succesful!

And in your opinion Toumas can be what you think, my opinion is that he lacks the integrity of fullfilling the musical bit of what Nightwish started up as. A lot of people complain about Anette's voice, or at least how she sings the old Nightwish songs. In my opinion, she was chosen to give the band a new perspective, they could have chosen another soprano singer like Tarja, but they didn't... I'm a big Nightwish fan since the band origins and it's all about the music and the poetry involved in the lyrics, the voice it's only a part of it....
