All Bradshaw had to do was just throw the ball up and Swann would catch it even if he threw it into triple coverage, Swann would find a way to get that ball.
This catch, a Lynn Swann specialty, actually knocked Swann out of the game in the third quarter of Super Bowl XIV, and the Steeler offense struggled for quite some time before Bradshaw found John Stallworth for two monster receptions in the fourth quarter. The first put the Steelers ahead 24-19, and the second, which occurred right after Jack Lambert's interception, led to the game-clincher. To this day, many think that Stallworth, not Bradshaw, should have been named the MVP of Super Bowl XIV.
Interesting that if Stallworth had been the MVP of Super Bowl XIV, all four of the major stars of that Steeler offensive would have won a Super Bowl MVP award. And actually, Stallworth might very well have been on his way to winning the MVP award in Super Bowl XIII a year earlier if he hadn't gotten injured in the second quarter, because he had already accumulated well over 100 yards (75 on one play that he did most of the work on himself) and two touchdowns when he got hurt.
@cochranexyz You are a dumbass. Does filming the tv hurt you or something? People have done it on youtube since it came out. I also don't have the time to download the footage from my DVR so obviously this is what I did. Grow up douchebag.
@seanman70 Green ribbons are for the rain forest, pink is for breast cancer, blue is for the rain forest....I've got a brown ribbon, you know what it stands for? Eat shit mother fucker! eat shit!
@morningbirdfeeder Lynn Swann didn't even last ten years and whined everytime a player hit him hard. Jerry Rice was a great receiver for twenty years.
Thank you for posting this. I periodically search for this catch exact catch and i never find it. I remember watching this live as a kid at my aunts house in Pittsburgh and was in awe of the height that the gets.
@Knightmessenger It was. They replayed this game on ESPN one time and I thought that was a pretty crazy catch. I didn't have anything to record it with so I had to use my phone.
This Super Bowl, and other classic Super Bowl broadcasts have never been shown on ESPN Classic. They have been shown on NFL Network, however. Classic Super Bowl broadcasts from before 1990 that have ben shown on NFL Network are Super Bowls III (the oldest known surviving Super Bowl broadcast, as neither of the first two were preserved), VII, XIII (at least two different versions), XIV, XX, XXI (I believe), XXII (which was the first one NFL Network aired), and XXIII.
I think he was knocked out of the game on that play.
