The 3 songs are all from the 1960s: The Troggs' 'Love is All Around' (they are better known for their hit 'Wild Thing', Buffalo Springfield (who played up at the Topanga Corral around the time Neil Young lived up there, and John Mayall's 'Room to Move'
I love this!!!!! Remember Topanga very well back then. Crossed that old bridge many times that used to connect the bottom of Bowers Drive over the creek to Cave Way, visiting friends on the other side
Thanks for bringing back some memories of the past. I grew up in Topanga and it will always be home for me. I started kindergarten at the new school the year it first opened in 1953 and graduated in 1960. There is a photo of our graduating class posted on the Messenger website. I think the school did a wonderful job in those days. I've spent my life teaching chemistry, geology and astronomy at the college level thanks to the start I got there. Thanks so much for the memories.
Enjoyed reading your comment - and seeing the picture you mentioned on the Messenger website. Sounds like you had a great start there at that little ol' school. I remember one day a cow wandered onto the playground from the hills above. It was wonderful - no fences around it then
Every decade had their issues of course, but those sure were the simpler days. This video was great, but sad and melencholy at the same time, that there are no time machines, alot of those kids have grown into middle-aged adults and the adults in the video have passed on. All thats left is those memories of what life used to be like. This is when I get sad and wish we could go back to those days!
This is great. I'm all choked up for the old days of houses and horses on the beach. My grandpa was the architect that designed the Community House." Room to Move" so unreal!
So many fun memories up there at the Community House. In the 60s they used to have the "Strawberry Festival" every year. It was before Topanga Days. How cool that your grandpa was the architect!
I used to go to Topanga Beach when I was a little guy...I can vividly remember taking road out to the ocean...turning the bend and seeing the beautiful blue pacific....GLORIOUS times...moved to San Diego in 1969...love it!
Hey I teach up at Topanga Elementary and grew up coming to Topanga all the time and spent many days playing in the creek at a kid, This is the best video ever.
Glad you liked the video - thank you for the nice comment. I'll bet Topanga Elementary School has changed quite a bit since then. The main change I notice is the fence all around it now. Must be a nice place to be a teacher though :-)
thank you for the nice comment - you are welcome. It's nice to know others enjoy looking back at these old scenes of how things used to be in the Canyon
Hi, my 'ol classmate! Thanks for watching. Hope it brought back some fun memories for you of growing up there. But I think you meant class of '69 (let's not make us any older than we already are) :-)
You're right, it was '69! But math was never my strong suite -- I'll blame Mr. Lusk. :-) Your video shows how many things may change, but the mountain skyline of Topanga remains the same.
Hey, nice to take a trip down memory lane... we lived in Topanga Canyon from 1990 till 2002.... wonderful memories..... thanks for the music as well.....
This is so much my fantasy of what life was like growing up in CA. I grew up in Georgia and we had a very nice child hood, but my dream was to live there and you made it possible for me, thanks so much for sharing your memories, and it looked liked you had a very nice family.
its not fair that you guys get to grow up in such a place. topanga canyon is beautiful and there are probably hot naked chicks all over the place. or atleast this is what my ideal topanga canyon would look like . oh yeah and marijuana flourishes everywheres along the roads and even backyards. topanga canyon is where hot girls flock to wake me up in the morning and make me breakfast while im naked.
this is my ideal topanga canyon give or take a koeneggs ccx.
and im jealous you should move to connecticut and try life on the east coast for awhile, you can live at my house while i grow weed on your porch over looking the pacific assuming topanga canyon has such a view. do you know if you camp out in topanga canyon you will be awoken in the middle of the night by tens of coyotes who have taken the hours while you slept to form in numbers and surround you?
Great film...makes it so much better that it's Super8. I live in Topanga...big red barn property, across from Robinson...think I'll get my Super8 or 16mm and make some memories myself.
Thank you for postings these and your choice of music was perfect. I lived on Old School Road in the 60s. I miss it so much I live in Oregon now and know the Topanga I remember is gone, these films are *precious treasures*!!
WOW...that was just too cool! I spent a year in Topanga Canyon (1981) and actually lived on Webb Trail. You are so lucky to have grown up there. Thanks for sharing. Topanga rules!!!
I love reading that there are others with fond memories of this special place and time. And yes, that bridge was the one at the bottom of Bowers Drive. It went across the creek, but was torn down in the mid/late 70s
Resident on Canyon Trail Dr. across from the VFW 71-74. Spent a lot of time there in the late 60s. Very unique place. I still love animals but I eat them, too. Excellent choice of tunes.
im living in topanga right now. It's so much different from what it used to be. I would of liked to experience it back then, but its still amazing today.
Great memories of a time when life was simpler. The choice of music helped capture the moment. We had so much fun back then with simple things. Thanks for capturing life!
I lived in Topanga in the 60s & 70s and remember the bridge they walked across. It crossed the creek near the bottom of Bowers Drive where it met Webb Trail. This brought back so many memories of living in Topanga back then. I loved it!!!
Eerie... I remember that playground and the view from there... 1st-3d grade there in 61/62/63. Then family moved far away never to return.
