  • Hey man, im from Japan

How did you connected the fan power cables?

    Can you explain it?

    Gonna do this saturday

    Ty

  • This is the exact same mod i was thinking of doing! Does the PS3 Run much cooler? Also have you had the YLOD since doing this mod??

  • pretty cool theres one just like it i found on craigslist but it might be a fake ad im doing some colling mods my self ill be uploading a veido in the next day or two

  • I am a huge geek and love my playstation

  • hey man, i was thinking of doing this or water cooling it, does it work and not over heat?

  • @MrJkalbb YES IT WORKS! No need for the fan control. Mine has been running for two weeks straight with no issues. Instead of welding you can use thermal adhesive to mount the fans to the original cooling plates.

  • By the way... The fans are 120mm.

  • CECHA01+MOD=FRANKENSTEIN! Used same coolers but thermal adhered them directly to the original plates with all good results. The machine I applied this to was the oldest junker I had. Every time I re-flowed it, it never lasted more than a half hour. It has been running for two days now non stop! It will never get warm. Add a fan to the top of the power supply and a thermal blanket between the supply and the main board. Mod Rocks! Can be seen on craigslist in Saint. Louis.

  • I'm a little confused... My fat ps3 has never had a cooling issue and I use it every day. Surely this crazy mod is overkill? Cheaper to buy a ps3 off eBay for £20 for spares should it ever fail... Or get ps3 insurance for £28 and get a new one every time it fails lol

  • bro i have this and how am i going to do i need to weld it.. how can yu tell me what metteriels should i do ..

  • Guys can't you use the clamps provided with the PS3 and use 1 on each side?

  • @Bayr0n I mean use a normal clamp as top mount?

  • hot ? not probleme yeah

  • has your PS3 got a YLOD since you have added this mod?

  • I'll just wait for PS4 to come out next year..hopefully they fix this issue so it won't happen in PS4

  • @LegendarySkyOps721 There is no way it will come out next year. If they announce it next year I'd be surprised.

  • lol

  • Good idea but to meet I would be nervous about warping the motherboard.

  • why wouldn't you just purchase an ATX computer case? -_-

  • @ksidornseif it's a PS3... not a computer. :P

  • @00101110o Just because it isn't in a PS3 case doesn't mean it isn't a PS3. He goes through all of the trouble of mounting the heatsinks and cutting the holes, but if you are trying to get better temperatures at least put it in a case where it looks good... rather than a couple of heatsinks hanging out of the side.

  • @ksidornseif

    It's about functionality, not aesthetics.

Personally I like the Frankenstein look it has going on.

  • oh its just the camera view and lighting wasnt good for all i could see that could be a chimpanzee in there:P

  • not even sure wtf that is sposed to be

  • @peteypavello

    What do you mean?

  • @peteypavello Lol its a heatsink to draw heat away from the processor. I believe he used a hyper 212 in the video.

  • @MrSnake3602

    Why?

  • Comment removed

  • watch?v=JVKKm9Yu8-o the best

  • Hows the system running after all that mod.

  • I like this, its kinda like a hotrod with souped up engine out of hood.

I agree with you about the lead issue of hot/cold expansion. I have been researching and looking at ps3 board, but trying to decide to put PC heatsink like yours or liquid cooled but don't wanna spend too much funds for modding.

Question, the bracket to clamp down the heatsink the home-made ones you made, have you find other option to put clamps on since I don't have a welder.

My ps3 ylod when running Crysis :(

  • what PS3 model is that on video? I have the H01 which the CPU/GPU are not on the center of the board.

  • @FreeBird2k

It's the launch 20gb model. Don't remember the specific model #. Hope this helps.

  • where can you apply the fan for the heat pipe?

  • Question. Did you weld the pieces for the top of the fan heat sinks? Thanks in advance also for your reply.

  • @MoManEnt

Yeah, I used a welder to make the top mount bracket.

  • @ emeraldages do you stand and wait for the light to tell you to cross the road 200 miles into the desert with no cars upto the horizon ?????? not meant to be modded ??????? what is ???????? we have to mod them because they are flawed and designed to fail !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! why are you on utube ???? did you file a report to the government to post on a public forum ???? there actually is a form..... shame on you.............. you were obviously not designed to think out loud

  • would you be up for make a video on how you did?

  • instead of buying all these mods just put it in a good place

or put it on a cooling pad

i just open a window the room gets cold and i turn on a fan

like not next to the ps3 and it's pretty good

it's like a foot away from the t.v.

  • Good work bud. I'm in the midst of repairing my YLOD and adding 2 fans to the exhaust port on my PS3 at the top (when placed verticle). If it happens again I'm going your route with the PC CPU heatsinks. Got a welder and all that stuff available.. Is it still running good and cool???

  • Any way you could take some temperature measurements at the base of the CPU and GPU heatsinks where it contacts the chips? I just modded mine with smaller PC heatsinks and I want to compare the temperatures with your setup. My CPU (1st Gen PS3 60 GB) reads about 39 C at XMB and 45 C while in COD. I tested a stock PS3 of same model and it reads 57 C in COD and 53 C at XMB.

  • Woww

  • tats stupind fo'

  • hey man, i'm thinking of doing something similar, how did the mounting hardware work. could you maybe email me some more info? any help would be great. thanks

  • @emeraldages

I did this mod because this system suffered from overheating problems (aka YLOD), so keeping the temp down was my main goal - I couldn't careless about it being portable. I'm not sure what you're on about with games being ported from the Xbox, but it seems like you're trying to troll.

  • @The1Z though he did have one very good point, it is indeed "Cooler" good job man. I was just looking at my 60 gb that I just got off ebay, thing went though hell and back even the mating surfaces of the heatsinks are scratched!!!! time to upgrade the hell out of it!

  • @The1Z nice try but i aggree with the most who say its not more portable now.

and about temps, if everybody would open his PS3 Fat every year, clean it from dust, an apply

new heatcomponentpaste a ylod will never happen.

But its fun to try what everybody could do with fantasy an a ps3^^ i try next time watercooling in an old ps3^^

  • @The1Z Does it prevent YLOD? that wat i care about

  • @Chronicle1998

    Yes.

  • The best idea would be an aftermarket heatsink that is manufactured to be a drop-in for the original. I have a 40gb PS3, and to have an all copper (or even copper base) heatsink instead of the all aluminium factory HS would add better cooling to the unit.

  • The best idea would be an aftermarket heatsink that is manufactured to be a drop-in for the original. It would have been designed much the same as the original HS but with a copper base+heatpipes with ALU fins, much like the better PC coolers. Why hasn't any company jumped on this thought??

  • Cool I guess, but you've made your ps3 huuuuge

  • Song is the whistle song from Deadly Premonition.
