I watched this tonight and cried and dedicated it to Gary Carter, our late great New York Met and Hall of Famer, gone too soon. Yes, Let's go Mets!! We will miss you so much and those times were so sweet. Amen Mike31657, I am with you 100%!!!
@TimFrith24 The 86 Mets, had, without a doubt, the best single season team of the 1980's...their record was 108-54, only the 27 Yankees had a better record for a World Series winner...they won the NL East by a mindboggling 21 1/2 games, the largest margin for a division winner since 1902...
There were no Yankee fans in New York in the 80's!!! What Hat does Billy Crystal wear in "City Slickers?" That's right, one of the most out spoken Yankee fans wore a METS hat!!! Always love the Mets!!!!
@Mrchill11 To be fair, there were some Yankee fans in the 80s. But they were in hibernation out of embarrassment.
I think it's safe to say that there are a lot more Mets fans when the Yankees are the dominant team, than there are Yankee fans when the Mets are the dominant team.
The 1986 N.Y. Mets were the greatest team ever assembled & were the most exiting team to watch play in the greatest city on earth at the funnest time to be alive!!!
Seriously, I don't give a damn how great a player is. If he's making 250+ million dollars in 3 years something is seriously wrong here. Let's not forget to mention the stadium and team owners who rake in billions annually. I remember a time when all you had to pay for was a $4.00 ticket. Now theres parching fees, $200 seats, $10 hot dog. I don't understand why people put up with this overpricing crap.
@MarioKirby8 Please don't link the Mets with the shitty Jets' karma. We have enough of our own problems to worry about. We finally got them out of our stadium =)
i noticed during the video (which i love) that at 3:20 you can see a few quick swings being shown and one of them is of the portly pinch hitter Rusty Staub who as we all know was not on the '86 mets. just thought id point that out.
I agree...As a Padre fan, my team lost 11 of 12 to these guys. I thought and still think that 86 team was the best baseball team I have seen. I was shocked that the Red Sox took them to seven games in the series.
@m1sterhockey Yeah, they sold it on VHS, but it got a lot of exposure on local TV too. The local news shows played it a few times and they showed it before Mets games a couple of times. I think it was on MTV a couple of times too, IIRC.
@m1sterhockey They sold this on VHS, with a 30- minute "Making Of" documentary, and interviews with famous New Yorkers about the 1986 Mets phenomenon, and marketed it pretty hard. It also got into the rotation for a little while on MTV believe it or not.
It was also given out at Shea in a promotion, I'm pretty sure.
@m1sterhockey I remember seeing this video on MTV once during the '86 season and I wondered if I was ever going to see it again and low and behold here it is on youtube.
man 1986 was my favorite year, i was 17 and my team was the best. every time i hear this song i get chills. when will the mets finally retire number 17, 8 18, 16 and 1 its long over due.
As a die hard Yankee fan I can still appreciate the talented 1986 Mets. i wish they would change their name to the Metropolitan as they really should be called. Still at least they don't have the record of losing like the Cubs.
It's amazing what a different game that was then. The Mets entire payroll in 1986 was $12.5 million (with Darryl Strawberry at almost a million). This year the Mets are at $136 million.
All the good stuff happened when I moved from NJ to AZ in '84 so had no choice but to watch 1986 on TV or listen to the radio. Just wasn't the same as being there. I've been a die-hard fan since the Mets came into the league when I was 9, a loooong time ago! Yeah, Mets!!
wow...great vid..i love the old music,,,makes me wanna go watch beverly hills cop...lets go mets...were doing something special this year, i can feel it!
The thing I like about the 1986 Mets was the brashness, infact you can say downright arrogance. Not only did they imposed their will on their opponents, they made them look bad.
This brings back great memories in all Mets fans. I have been a Mets fan for as long as I can remember. I was 10 years old when they won the WS. I believe that the Mets will get back to the promised land. GO METS GO METS GO METS
This video brings back a lot of memories. There were 2 teams I absolutely couldn't stand in '86 which were the Houston Astros and I hated the Boston Red Sox with a passion. I was so happy that the Mets found a way to beat each of those clubs in the Postseason to get their 1st World Title in 17 years. It's too bad this young group of players couldn't add more World Championships after '86.
@sportsmediaguy Thank Frank Cashen for that. First he trades Kevin Mitchell for Kevin McDONALDS! Then it was Dykstra and McDowell for Juan Samuel followed by Wilson and Mazzilli for Jeff Musselman! Then as if that wasn't enouigh, he FIRES DAVEY!
@vccstudents The Dykstra trade was awful. I didn't have a problem with the McReynolds trade... they easily win the division again in 1987 if the entire starting rotation doesn't go on the DL. In fact if everyone's healthy in 1987 they're almost as good as the 1986 team.
Mookie and Mazzilli were always bit players. Mazzilli was the one guy to root for when the Mets were horrible and I loved the guy, but this trade was not a big deal.
@sportsmediaguy You have to admit its also a shame that certain players couldnt keep it together OFF the field(Strawberry and Gooden in particular). They were an awesome team, and I've always loved this video.
@AntKneeNYC I actually got it from Limewre a few years back. I'll add it to rapidshare for you. Just follow the free links, the file is clean, so don't worry.
Just re-read the book "the bad guys won" again. The 1986 Mets were to me what the 1927 Yankees were to that generation or the 52 Dodgers were to theirs. Its great to see this again. I copied Darryl's sweet swing in little league. I had no power, I played more like Wally B. LOL
You know something... even though I of course want more World Series wins...
Having two great, hard-fought, distinct Series winners is good.
EVERYONE knows the Miracle Mets and the 1986 Mets.
Who knows, off the top of their heads, say, the 1952 Yankees?
You'll think Mantle, Yogi, Whitey, sure, but does it stand out like Seaver, Koosman, Gentry, a Young Ryan, Cleon, Agee, Kranepool, Grote, Harrelson, or like Kid, Keith, Wally B., Mookie, Hojo, Straw, Dr. K, Ojeda, McDowell, and Jesse?
@jerseyculls You would have a hard time arguing for another team being better than the 1986 Mets. They dominated the league in everything statistically.
Let's Go - Met's Go!! I still have my copy of this video and play it all the time, irks me that it isn't on DVD!! Love the "making of" documentary. I live in LA and the Dodgers bought some of these players just after this but it didn't help. Mets are my team!!!!!!!
I own a copy of this video, and I was able to get a few of the '86 guys signed on it. Last season Gary, Keith, and Ron announced a game from the stands, I was able to meet them and get them to sign it. Awesome. Let's GO mEtS!

1986 Mets are way overrated. Typical NYC homer blowhorn propaganda.
If they were so great they would have won 2-3 World Series in a row.
Phillies will go ahead of the Mets in all time World Series title wins within the next couple of years.
