A good detailer can start the buffer and run it over the compound without it splattering. Angle the buffer on end so that it sucks the polish into the pad.
A sheet, wtf, that's a good thing to get caught in the buffer and screw shit up. Use masking tape and paper. Variable speed is the way to go. Just pop the windshield squirters out and you won't have to worry about it, they pop out super easy. Take off antennaes, etc. You always want the wheel rotating OFF the edge of a panel and NOT into the edge so you don't burn the edge or take off the paint. Who the fuck is this guy?
@rubbercheck72 ya i agree or just use some masking paper that what i use, or after the car comes out of the booth i just keep the paper on it till after i rub it out
It all depends on the type of pad and polish/compound combo you used.
Always work out what the least aggressive pad and polish combination required for the task in hand. To do this, start with a light aggressive polish on a light cutting pad. If that doesn't work move up to more aggressive combo of pad and polish.
There's not enough space on here to explain the whole process....So
Go to detailing world site and look a Dave KG's gulde to rotary polishing. "Expert Village" LOL forget these guys!
So what if I have a little patch where I have lost the polish from using a wet-dry sand-paper to remove a scratch and now I want to return the mirror-polish finish?
what do we use now days?? I got me ADT Shop Polisher machine, Foam Polishing pad, Wool Cutting Pad, Nu Finish and Meguiar's Gold Class Liquid wax..now what do I do ??
at work we use a makita polisher, 3M pads (hard, medium soft), trizak and ultrafina. you can easily burn through with wool
you have to use a polish with a buffer, those two products you mentioned are just wax which will be totally useless with the polisher. Keep looking at video's and eventually you will be able to seperate the riff from the raff.
Great! Very helpful. So, I would use Foam polishing pad with a polish, what do I do with the wax? I know tiny sponge like applicator came with it, but I want to be able to use the machine to wax it as well..? So, I wold need a polishing pad, dry pad to clean of the polish, wax applicator pad(?) and pad? to wipe off the was ??
apply the wax one panel at a time with a applicator pad, allow to "dry" slightly and buff off with a microfiber cloth. when you polish you will leave behind very fine swirl marks, you minimize this by staging down the polish to a finer and finer compound so that they are not as noticeable, and the wax, or glaze completely conceals them. if you are really good at polishing you can polish a car and swirls will not be noticed even without wax.
Hi, sorry for all these questions, but its VERY helpful. So, I would not need a machine after all!? I just bought it and its sealed brand new. I guess I can return it if I do not need a machine... and just hands to paste and rub wax ?? (If polishing was no needed...)
if this is a brand new car you are talking about then there is no need to polish it at all. just clay bar and wax, just be mindfull of the date of manufacture, the paint should be on the car for at least 90 days before you wax it otherwise you will "seal" the paint and it will never properly cure.
NO actually its not a brand new car, its like 2001 model. The paint is pretty nice still. I just do not know what to do with the machine I bought thinking I would use it to polish / wax my car with... should I return it?
mega .have you put megs in a clear bottle and leave overnite, you will find in the morning 30%product 70% silicone?I still think unless you use a water based product like system one or Xpert 1500 you are only cutting the swirls a little and filling the rest.also high speed buffing is old fashioned
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
always shake the cheap products to mix all the nasty solvents and silicones together to make sure you stuff up the paint ,also finish with cleaning surface with prepsol so you can see whata really crappy product you have used.
she prayed cum on that car!

It cracks me up, how many experts comment on the vids and don't post their own. If your way is the best then post a video or shut the hell up.

This guy said nothing nothing about the types of pads or polish to use to deal with different paint problems.
A wool pad like the one he is using is only necessary on deep swirls and harder paints.
Using a wool pad on paint with light defects is only going to unnecessarily remove clearcoat or paint.
if the defect are light start with a foam pad like a Sonus white pad and a lighter polish like Sonus SFX-2.
This guy has no idea!

I always polish at an angle and never had a problem!! and if your doing this kind of work buy a variable speed.

Focoist911.... You need to refine it with a finishing foam pad like a Sonus red pad and a finishing polish like Menzerna Final Finish (PO 106 FA).

So, when / why would I or anyone need a machine? such as this one on the video, mine (ADT Shop Polisher machine), or your Makita ?
urkingod 2 years ago
you would use a polish if you have scratches or fading, if your paint is perfect then all you need to do is clay-bar and wax.

if your happy with the way your paint looks right now (not faded, no major scratches) I would, and just clay bar and wax.
