Ugh. Her singing is fantastic but I HATE this performance. Her style doesn't fit this. You don't mess with songs like this. She made the chorus sound sloppy.

WHOA. I guess she just feels she doesn't need to follow the counting that's written in her part? As a violinist playing in the pit orchestra of a production of hairspray, I'd personally be freaking the HELL out, seeing as to the orchestra is always a chord ahead of her because of her strange freestyle.

I had the good fortune of seeing Jennifer Lewis do this live in Hairspray in New York on Broadway. Seeing her do it live was even better than listening to this recording because visually she brought all of her acting skills to the performance too.
