I believe it has become the strongest land-falling storm in history. 885 Millibar pressure with 1 minute sustained winds from 180 to 190 MPH (290 to 305 KPH) at landfall.
Other Similar Strength and Intense Land-falling Cyclones to Super Typhoon Megi:
1935 Labor Day Hurricane: 892 Millibar, 185 MPH, 298 KPH
@1966GUEI If that is true, it means that Megi has become both the most intense and powerful land-falling cyclone ever recorded. It smashes the previous minimum land-fall pressure at 892 by the Labor Day Hurricane of 1935 and ties with 1969's Camille for the most powerful landfall at 190 MPH.
They have suggested adding a Category 6. I think it should be 1 minute sustained wind of 190 MPH and above. Only four storms that includes Megi have reached that number with solid evidence. The other 3 are Hurricanes Camile and Allen in the Atlantic and Super Typhoon Tip which also holds the record for the lowest measured pressure in a tropical cyclone and is also largest with diameter of half the continental US.
wow, its as big as luzon!(which is 100,000 km across)...i hope it will dissipate soon....since it is already in its 2nd landfall on china in oct. 23....

1998: Super Typhoon Zeb: 900 confirmed, possibly 872 Millibar, 180 MPH, 290 KPH
All wind speeds are one minute sustained winds.
