  • Great recording. I would have loved to seen a live video of it.

  • i'm 15, i'm africian american, and i play this on alto sax in my 3rd period jazz band class :D

  • guess the camera man didn't like the keyboard player..

  • I think that this song puts 90% of today's music to shame, and I didn't even grow up with jazz, LOL.

  • @lordarkhelmet Yeah, most modern popular music sucks IMO.

  • This sax player is insane.

  • Is the bass player having a good time or what? Hey Rex, coming to the east coast any time soon? Would love to see your band.

  • These cats all look like they were having a great time playing this! I went out and bought the album after I saw this vid for the first time.

  • Kick butt tune!

  • Does this FABULOUS group of musicians have a name? Also, who's the vocalist?

  • @oldiesfan52 "This Ain't Your Daddy's Big Band"

    Vocalist = Rex Merriweather.

    It helps to read the description.. (;

  • @shadowphoenix137 Thank you SO much for your well-informed and RUDE response!

  • @oldiesfan52 guys PLEASE, no need to be rude. I have been out of town performing and unable to keep up with questions. You have the name of the band correct, but the lead singer is Matt Phairas. I'm the trumpet player up front playin' high stuff. Some of the other musicians here are: Anne King - Lead Trumpet, Cece Worrall - Rubin, Saxophone, Slammin' Sammy k - Drums and Jerry Scott on Guitar. Please look them up. Amazing people. Rex Merriweather

  • @stunttrumpet Great recording. Do I still have to wait for approval? I don't post often. If I do its' because I see something. Do a live video!!!! I know it's hard work. Just don't blow it Still a GREAT PERFORMANCE!!!! of a great song!

  • Love it, love it, love it!

  • That lead trumpeter is great.

  • @whitehawk45 hes not just great hes amazing

  • One of my faves !! I love the bass line in this !!

  • Absolutely amazing. I love this song! :D

  • looks like John Petrucci on guitar. haha

  • @molecular360 and somewhat Robert Downy Jr lol

  • @lordarkhelmet

It was at the time, and is still some popular with some groups. I didn't hear Chase until the late 90s and have loved the old recordings since.

  • Is that alto sax player playing on a Jody Jazz DV?

    He sounds fantastic.

  • this is amazing.......love it never so close... great thank you

  • wow....

  • Wow!...this is great!!!

  • Darned fine cover of the original. I'm impressed and I've been playing trumpet for about 51 years now, so I'm not easily impressed anymore. Nice to see a group that can be more than a mediocre imitation of Chase. Good job, everyone.

  • what a fun video! I remember playing this song in school and it was fun then too. Beautiful job Rex and crew!

  • I know this is hard to believe but one of the band instructers at my school, I only know him as Mr. French, was actually in this band the only reason he is alive is because he couldn't go on the flight with Chase, because his dad had a heart attack and that was the last flight he would have ever been on.

  • That's really impressive and sounds good given the sonics of a live (you get what you get) performance---even more impressive.

  • i love this song on guitar!!!

  • god are you surious that was sick lol

  • One of the best screetcher's I've ever heard! I have a signed "Bill Chase" album from a concert at UNI just before he died in the crash. My trumpet teacher was sooooooo pissed that I had the same range as Bill Chase and did nothing with it! Now I surely wish I would've! This man was better than Clifford Brown! Luvs to all you screetchers out there!

  • This band is amazing!

  • I remember this song in junior high. I did not know who Bill Chase was since the name of the group was "Chase" I always thought it was a black vocalist. Loved hearing it again!

  • Hell Yes!!!!!!!!

  • I don't see Ed Fogell

Needless to say Rex, you really have grown way beyond........

  • Pretty bad ass I must say. Wow.Those guys/gals looked like they were having a blast recording that.

  • I live in southern california and I can't wait for the end of football season so I can see this outstanding band play live.

  • This is so amazing!!

  • really good but why is there a closeup on the guitarist when theres a keyboard solo? lol

  • Wow!

  • QUE ORQUESTA MUY BUENOS SALUDOS DESDE GUATEMALA

  • That sax solo is unreal. :O

  • rex is the man!

  • Wonderful Beautiful Fantastic Exciting!!!!!

    歌っているのはご本人ですか?

    大好きな曲です(My favorite song)(^◇^)

    鳥肌が立ちました(>_<)

    演奏も最高です\(^o^)/♪♪♪

  • GREAT interpretation!! Thanks for the big grin and the flashback to the 70s!!! Ah, to be young and in jazz ensemble again!

  • my school's jazz band is doing this song, i play the sax. WHOOO

  • @lordarkhelmet Because when Disco began, music became "easier" for people to listen to. Think about the major difference in music ever since disco and you have your answer. Bang! "Synthesizers!" Not saying they are completely stupid, but that's where our music which actually took talent went.

  • This man (Rex Merriweather) may be the best trumpet player in the World! He is amazing. Great rendition of the song also.

  • yeah - nice chart!

  • I would LOVE to hear the Buckinghams cover this song~~

  • It's just amazing!!!

  • Wow! This gonna go worldwide. '70's A treasure to anyone that has played and loves real music. Try and replicated "One fine morning" by Lighthouse now.

  • Very Awsome reproduction Guys. Great Job! BC would be impressed I'm sure. You carry with you all of B Chase's dreams. Carrying out what he never got to finish. Now, you can carry on his legacy. You have TO! I for one would like to see and hear More. I'm sure all of us agree. We'd pay to hear all that good music. Challenge: How bout trying "One fine morning".

  • Bill Chase really didn't know how big or how special this song was gonna be. To the extent that people in bands of all shapes and forms WORLDwide wanted to emulate him so much. They just wanted to be a part of him and his music. Wow what an arrangement. Your not gonna find great bands or music like that now a days. Just try. I'm so lucky to be a part of that time when music then is being used now to remind us of how Good we actually had it. If you like this? Try" LightHouse" 1971.

  • WOW,

Chase would of been Proud. They have IT. I know I come from that Time when every band that was serious enough to make it Big. Meant you had to play "Get It On" or at least sound very close to it. This just Beautiful music. This is my kind of MUsic The brass section was always the jewel of any band. Lot have tried. Lots have failed too. I was the drummer in my band. I am so proud and glad there are still Great people that know what Great Bands R supposed to sound like.

  • Oh, how I wish I could get that arrangement!

  • i love how some of thesen tributes just come out of nowhere and smack us in the face with their awesomeness. keep it up guys

  • love this song.

  • Never heard of these fellows before but, for a live recording the sound quality is amazing; love the bass work.

  • I bet that piano player is from England, hi Paul!!!

    Great sound.

  • Who Are these awsome guys. I am a great fan of The great late Bill Chase. But this tribute is the best I have ever heard.

  • Very nicely done and this band has the blessing of Linda Chase and some of the Chase alums. I appreciate you all keeping Bill's music alive in such a wonderful fashion. God bless!

  • This oddly enough sonuds just like the original Bill Chase recording, dub over by any chance?? That is an honest question.

  • No. Honest answer.

  • @davismusic2002 yes this is.they just put there own lil style to it and this is an honest answer. im sure ravicka is messing with you.

  • I think ravicka is answering with 'no' it is not Bill Chase. It is an original recording from Rex Merriweather, inspired by Bill Chase.

  • You know what really blows my mind when I see this band is that there are two women blowing fire in the trumpet section. I know there are lots of fantastic women trumpeters, but you don't usually see them screaming and playing blazing lip trills. Awesome!

  • these guys need to play at the blue note in manhattan if they have not done so already

  • That Alto's tone is unreal

  • Unbelievable...this is one of, if not the best rendition ever! Great tirbute to Chase. I have got to find some more music from Rex.

  • u guys are amazing!

  • Un Freakin Real, WHY has this music not come back?! In HS Jazz Band I lived for the MF Band, Chase, Doc, etc. These guys are great.

  • love it e playing this in my jazz band

  • HOLY BALLS!!!

  • damnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn that was the best sax solo ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Damn! You guys nail it! Done Bill Chase proud. One of my favorites from the 70s! Thanks for a great rendition! Outstanding vocals, too! Ain't an easy one to belt out! The whole band kills! Everyone looks like they're having a blast - how can you not playing or listening to this number? Thanks you so much!

  • LOVING this version

  • Extraordinary! Look at those guys and gals joined in brass magic. This defines "timeless" -- without the 70s visuals, this sound could be from anytime between the swing era 40s and now.

Bill Chase... there's an artist who left us way too young. One just has to look at those happy musicians in their wild abandon, to imagine the kind of orchestra he'd be touring today, and the music they'd be playing.

  • @gorgonique The original singer became irritateing after a couple of songs this guy is alright one critic said chase bludgeons the audiance with 3 trumpets the ending quotes in a gadda da vida which is satisfaction backwards lets see I count 4 trumpets 3 saxes 2 trombones guitar bass drums keybourd

  • I think this would make Bill happy!!

  • I LOVE this song,I played this in my Jr.High school jazz band back in the late 70's.

  • High D...it was piercing though. ;-)

  • OLD BOY HIT THAT HIGH C REAL GOOD.I LIKE

  • Holy wow...that gave me chills. I miss Bill, still.

  • This AIn't Your Daddy's Big Band will be appearing at Las Hadas In Northridge on June 22nd and June 29th.

  • Stunt trumpet...

    a great ensemble.

one of my fav recordings of this tun right there with chase and the MJO.

  • we do this song for our jazz band and we dont hold out those notes for that long. this is awsome

  • we played this @ our graduation. It was totally freakin' awesome. There was a huge guitar/Sax/Trombone/Trumpet Solo. MER

  • Oh, my! That was damn fine! Rivals Bill Chase and Co for a gorgeous, fat brass choir sound. Very sweet, gang! Thanks a tonne!

  • whoa

  • Sadly, Dennis Noda has passed away. He was a great person as well as a great bassist. He will be missed.

  • tihs is the balled of my high skool marching band show it is friggin sweet

  • WOW!!! These guys are really GOOD!!! I'm saving this one...

  • Holy Schnikees,

    This is really good!

  • This is sizzling! Great job people!

  • Rex is one of the best front personalities I've ever seen. And as much as I have loved the Chase version for 35 years I like this arrangement and lead singer even better.Another amazing thing is the recording is Rex on all the trumpet parts-I've got the cd.

  • wow this sounds so amazing we played this for a jazzband concert but it was much worse

  • THIS KICKS MAJOR ASS.

  • not exactly bill chase, but its pretty damn good. wish they would show the trumpet player more so I can get the fingerings down.

  • is easy to get them, just listen and watch and you'll get it, Thats how I got the fingering of most of song

  • My marching band here at UNT is playing this as part of their marching show. Pretty awesome song.

  • Yeah UNT! I played the 1st part on several songs (including this one) in the marching band 3 years ago at North Texas. Did you play in the lab bands?

  • Email Rex. He'll probably help you out. He really does nail those high notes w/ not much effort. One of the few guys I know who can do that. I'm sure he's on Facebook.

  • IS THIS BILL CHASE??

  • No.. Bill Chase and Band perished in a plane crash in the 70's I believe. This is a Bill Chase Chart however... one of his best!

  • wow daddy like

  • I still prefer the original version but this is hot they put their own style on it VERY NICE!

  • That was insane! It looks like everyone in the room is feelin' it which adds to the coolness of the vid. My kids don't know what the song is about but we keep playing it over and over again. Thanks for posting it!

  • DAMN...!!! Other than the variation in the organ solo...., that was ALMOST sounded "just like" the original!!! AWESOME job!!!

I would REALLY like to hear this "same" line up do this again, BUT play it just like the original (shorty solo section and more

    CHASE-like energy!!!

  • You may get your wish! The band is working out details to tour to a city near you, as they have had hundreds of offers. Terry Richards, the lead singer of Chase, who co-wrote this song with Bill, also produced this version, along side lead trumpet Rex Merriweather. Asking for a big band ensemble and just the right touches to make it modern without loosing the original feel. He is very happy with the results...

  • Well Im out here in Los Angeles, Ca. and I defintely want to check these cats out "live" !!! Hit me up as soon as it is known where & when they are playing, please!!! Thank you!!!

  • I suppose it would be too much to wish for you guys to head out to somewhere in the Midwest...damn this band sounds good!

  • Killer! Brings back some great memories as Chase is one of my alltime favorites! Would love to see these guys live! Where?

  • Bill chase's band is in rock n' roll immortality . To my understanding , I read in Billboard's Top 40 hits , 9th Edition , that lists every Top 40 hit that made the charts between 1954 up to 2002. I looked them up to find out that the whole band was killed in a plane crash in 1974 .

  • We live and work in the Los Angeles area. Lead trumpet Anne King, is featured on many tv shows and recordings. Adolfo Acosta also plays with Tower of Power. Cece Worrall-Rubin on tenor sax has toured all over the world with groups like Gunns & Roses, the Drew Carey show and more. Dennis Noda on bass tours with the Classic Rock All-Stars and is featured on hundreds of recordings, etc. A true All-Star Band.

  • Unfortunately Bill Chase and his band were killed in a plane crash on their way to a gig in Minnesota on Aug. 9 1974.

  • My R&B band played this at a local club for the first time last weekend and we brought the house down and got A STANDING OVATION ! We played it again for an encore and everyone left feeling good ! We did Bill Chase justice and I'm sure he would have been proud . It took us three months and several hours to get tight with this great song .

  • Dude, where can we find you guys live? That was incredible!

  • This Ain't Your Daddy's Big Band plays in the L.A. area.

  • Great sound! Looks like this band has a hell of a good time. Thanks for the post.

  • Awesome video...I remember this song from back in my teen years....lotsa memories at the drive in....even saw a few movies!

  • HAHA!

  • Rex,

Great video and even better playing. Your stunt-playing rocks, brother. Keep the faith, baybee!

    Paddyo

  • This song is such a powerful one. These guys chug like a locomotive! What a great rendition of Chase's early 70's great song. We rocked to this working in the orchards of Washington. Rockin' out on a ladder was tricky!

  • wah

  • I miss the wha wha guitar

  • Most excellent from top to bottom. The arrangement, lead trumpet, vocals, sax solo, everything, very nice.

  • Would have been very sweet to of been in that room!

  • Holy cow! This is excellent.

  • ladies and gents, NICE!

  • I fucking love the irony of girls playing on the most sexist song of all time. Classic!

  • Dear lord, that lead trumpet has some amazing skill.

  • So hardXcore. I want to be that sax player.

  • This is nothing short of amazing

  • damn...

  • Who is the lead player??

  • Rex Merriweather

  • man that some bad ass shit.

  • Not bad! Very clean! and two Ladie's playing trumpet Kool!

  • i llloooovvvveeee that wild thing :P

  • This is one of my favorite sungs. We played this in my high school band in 96

  • VERY Nice!!! I loved this tune when Bill did it, but you folks hit it on the head! Great pitch on everybody's parts. Very clean and bright! AS GOOD as it gets!!

  • Damn, this is a tight band! FANTASTIC!!!

  • Bill would have been PROUD.

  • One of the greatest bands I've ever heard - and the singer just adds to the intensity of the band. WOW!!!!!! The entire band makes one stand up and take notice!! Congratulations on having a group that really works!!!!

  • Holy Shit ! WOO ! THHIS BLEW ME AWAY !! RIGHT ON !

  • Great jam! You guys rock! Thanks for sending this Mike.

  • Man Alive! You guys sound great! Haven't heard anything this refreshing since the early '70s. If you want exposure in the SE, please send me a video and I'll personally deliver it to Ted Skorman - T Skorman Productions. Regardless, I'm sure I'll be seeing more of you!

  • Rex...this is a Kick Ass band!Love the Green Hornet too...from somebody old enough to remember...Mike E.

  • Rex -- this is a kick ass video!! Great work!
