I believe that cats should be kept indoors not only for their sake, but for all their potential prey items. So many endangered birds, amphibians, reptiles and mammals out there, I just can't believe that people allow predators to run free with NO supervision! It just shows that people really don't actually care for the cat because there is NO reason for the cat to not have ANY supervision whatsoever.
I never had my cats on leashes. I would just watch over them, and let them out. It's simple!
@Goldbuns I disagree, but befor I go on explaining myself you should know that I live in the Netherlands, yes there are endangered species here too but not that much. A cat, in my opinion should be free to go where he/she wants, whenever he/she wants it. I happen to live on the doorstep of a forest. Also, cats tend to hunt prey when they are young, my cat is 16 now he has not been hunting for almost 6 years now. Even if he did, it would only be natural.
@Fangornmmc I will never think this is a good idea, unfortunately. There is NOTHING natural about a domestic cat being let loose on an area where none of the prey have evolved with a domestic cat-like predator. You are basically saying you don't care that species are going extinct. It's also natural for dogs to be running wild, too. But you don't see people throwing them outdoors with no supervision, no fences, nothing.
@Goldbuns If you truly think that a single cat will extinct a species...well, I guess you aren't feeding the cat very well...
Anyway, we humans need fresh air, outside, every animal needs it I see absolutely no reason to not give a cat (domestic or not) that right. Dogs may be on leashes but at least they are able to go outside. Last but not least, domestic cats by nature pee and poo OUTSIDE. No offense but I almost consider it abusive to leave your cat "suffocating" inside...
@Fangornmmc Actually a few cats have made entire species of birds go extinct. That's fact. It's sad you don't know that.
At least keep the cat on a leash or in an enclosed area. I think it is abusive to just throw it outside. Who cares if it gets run over or kills a thousand song birds? Or if it even really likes being outside? Some cat breeds and cats prefer to be indoors.
I think he's crazy for saying all cats should be indoors. My cat Marbles insists on going outside, and insists on doing his toilet business there. All the cats I have lived with in my lifetime have been indoor/outdoor, and most have lived 15-20 years. Only one was lost to an automobile. Cats enjoy being outside. I realize this is not possible for all cats, and I'm sure there is many a content indoor feline, but I completely disagree that they should all be indoor animals.
Saying that the Aby does not chatter is incorrect - I have 2 and 1 talks constantly. But it is true that they like to be involved in whatever is going on - bake a cake... a cat will help you, make the bed... a cat will help you, eating supper... a cat will be begging you for food!!
Talk about beautiful, check out the Egyptian Mau cats also. They have a similar body type and are super fast, extremely intelligent and talk enough to be fun and interact with you yet not be annoying. They are very active also but seem less so than the Abyssinian but never having owned an Abby I can't say positively. These are decendants of the cats you see carved in the 5000 year old heiroglyphics.

@MaxPaws wait! His opinion is also right (read wikipedia) but they come from india but you wont find an abbysinnian cat in india thats the reason i was wondering about what he said......................................The indian abbysinian cat wont lock and be like the abby today
@Yurrah: If you live on the countryside or have a huge garden to let the cat out into there will be less problems than letting the cat outside in an urban area, but even then it can be risky.
I read about one woman in Northern Norway - she had a Aby-cat and let it out.
It was caught by an eagle. The eagle-claws penetrated the cat's chest, and it died after a few hours. The lady got another Aby-cat and said she never let the cat out again.
we have an abyssinian at home, her name is sammie and she's 9 years old. If we don't let her go outside she stands up against the door all day. the only things she had so far are the common gum disease and she got stung by a bee she was chasing. so yeah, i think it's a good thing to let her go outside and i'm convinced she'll last a long time.
I had an Abyssinian for 12 years, he was a stud cat before I got him. He was precious absolutely a gorgeous creature. They are amazing cats, they have gorgeous manner. He was a blue and absolutely perfect! all this is so true. I miss him so much =( I lost him early april. Miss him everyday, the cat at 2:20 reminds me so much of him.
@MaxPaws :) yes I am a vet nurse.. guess i must have had a bad day! but let me tell you that i know they are sweet at home but they are horrible when it comes to trying to handle at work. My reason for not likeing them
@KanyaFrances Okay, I'll give you that SOME Abbys might be like that when they come to see the Vet, but what animal LIKES visiting the Vet!? Well, I will tell you, that MY vet, who has been doing this almost 20 years, said my Abby was THE best cat she had ever cared for! He would ler her do whatever she needed to do, and not complain about it. Perhaps that has as much to do with how I raised him, as anything else. He was the most incredible cat I've ever known R.I.P.
I am very protective over my cats, and I realised early on that the only way to protect them, is to teach them. I've heard too many stories of cats getting run over or killed by dogs because they escaped from their houses and didn't have the streetsmarts to survive. I have NEVER locked my cats indoors. What if there's a fire and they can't get out? This way I know they know how to avoid the dangers of the world.
@Femmyism: I agree. Cats are out door animals, natural hunters. I still miss my Abysinnian from 28 yrs ago!! Unbeknown to me my wife and kids went to the local shelter and bought two 'moggie kittens', when I wanted an Abby!!
Cats like to explore, just like any other animal, they don't like fences...
You are being cruel by not letting them explore the earth around them...They are not like humans that sit around and watch television all day...
Cats are totally outdoor animals, they will go live in the forest if they wanted to, cats dont need you and your shelter...they are far more adept in their senses...and can survive on their own.
@evan12345a I have struggled with this question for a long time...if they really want to go outside, is it cruel to keep them in? I don't know the answer, I just know I love them and I don't want them to die. I live in an area right now where there are a lot of cars and loose dogs and mean people. And my cats are friendly and not afraid of anything, so they could get hurt. My number one goal right now is to build an enclosure where they can go out and be safe at the same time.
my cat is 22 years old, still alive and is still an outdoor cat. you moronic losers who keep your pets inside where its "safe" are not letting them enjoy the the outdoors which is within itself cruel. would you let your child go outside? or would you have him stay at home on his xbox all day where its "safe". enjoying the outdoors is part of living and just seeing my cats reaction when she goes out the first day of spring every year makes letting her out worth it enough for me!
Confining a cat indoors is the worst thing you can do to a cat.
Cats are naturally explorative. If all the cat can explore is the house, what fun is that for a cat? It wants to be outside, it wants to sniff the plants and the fresh air. Why else is your cat begging to do outside all the time?
Let your cat do what it wants, and that includes going outside.
Sorry deeallen2 but you are wrong. My cat is 19 years old, has always gone outside and we live in LONDON. I actually think it's pretty cruel to keep a cat indoors. I say let them go outside and enjoy their lives and take their chances.
What is up with all the cat people saying that the cats should not go outside. Yes of course its kinda dangerous but come on the cat needs to enjoy itself and if it doesn't come back as soon as it can get out of your house it shouldnt have been there in the first place
We once had an Abby who loved playing fetch. It began when my husband tossed an olive at her to see if she'd eat it. Instead, she picked it up in her mouth and dropped it at his feet for another go-round. It was one of her favorite games.
we had three such cats in punjab pakistan and they were able to look after themselves outdoors....its like saying put a leash on kids as its a dangerous world with cars etc...most if not all cats learn quickly of local danger points
This phrase has such an amount of anthropomorphous content, fallacy, idiocy, an other things that I wouldn't know where to start, so I will just say that as humans, cats are animals that appeared in nature, outdoors, not inside a house, that's their normal habitat, if there are dangers, that's the way of nature, don't be so arrogant as to dictate where a living being should live.
Cats should be kept indoors unless you live on a farm - for their safety. Keeping cats outdoors in this day and age subjects them to being run over, victims of cruelty by mean people, or attacked by other animals. If you really care about your cat, keep 'em inside please.
I doubt that many people are advocating "keeping" a cat outdoors. I suspect everyone's simply saying to let the cat go outdoors when it wants to. My family let our cat outdoors and she lived into her mid teens. She loved hunting.
I had an outdoor cat that lived for 18 years. (That's what the vet's guess was). I think people aren't responsible with outdoor cats. Bring them in before dark. Train them on a leash when you first get them so they get used to the property and you. I would just go sit outside with them for an hour a day so they knew where home was. My cats have never run away and always were very safe. My neighbors, on the other hand, lost their cat to a coyote because they wouldn't let her in at night. Sad.
I have 2 Abis. Both have moved countries and now live in BC Canada. They enjoy the outdoors so much I couldnt take it away from them. We are lucky vehicles are not a problem. They are about to come on an inaugral cruise up the inside passage with an adopted sister cat Gracie. Wish us luck!
@kapkone There's a reason there are limits to how many cats you can have - yes, they do need space but I live in a biggish house with 4 cats (one of which hates the others a bit) and they spent the first few months of becoming indoor cats trying to get out, after that they adjusted and are much more affectionate, healthier, and get along with each other better.
If your cats go crazy indoors then your house might be a little too small for 5. Also, moggies often fair better outdoors.
@xaositectz a smart cat wont pick a fight with a chained up dog outside of a house, they will escape easy if they are active outside early in life. my cat i 15 years old and we let him out all the time, hes been hurt once and that was only minor
@GenXUnderground of course the cat won't pick the fight, but we have loose dogs in my home village...and i've seen many beautiful cats' corpses on the road, squashed by a car. if you don't want your cat to die, you won't let it wander around in the village, because it happens occasionally. but then of course it's nice to give them some freedom, so it's kinda a hard decision
@xaositectz i guess it all depends on the kind of scenario the cat is in, but cats really dont leave their territories often so stuff like that should be rare, if the cats learn early in life that things such as cars should be avoided and the same goes for dogs
All cats being 'indoor cats' is a bit of a generalization; some breeds can handle themselves just fine outside.. my british short hair was a sportsman if ever a cat was one :P
I'll take a shot and say that he probably means their spirited and predator nature makes them great hunters, but, they are people-oriented cats. I absolutely love Abys. They are intelligent, loyal and so so loving. I have had 3 of them and they have touched my heart.........I cannot say enough about being accepted in the wonderful world of Abysinians. And do understand, they run the show, own the home and you may be lucky to be one of their royal subjects.
I think he's saying that if you let your cat run loose outside it has a much shorter lifespan. For instance, an indoor cat lives 10-15 yrs (depending on the breed) & and outdoor cat 4-5. Cats are territorial & the home becomes their 'territory'. They're most comfortable when in their territory. Some cats will walk on a lead - mine does. He even runs with my son but we don't let him run round outside willy-nilly. We want him alive and healthy not roadkill or dog fodder.

How can you say that you love cats and them keep them indoors? It is like saying that you love your kids but they can not play outsude for they might get hurt. It is unnatural and cruel.
I think an owner is actually being cruel by LETTING their cats go outside. You expose it to so much more danger and their life will be shorter. If you care about your cat and wanna give it a good life, then have a fenced in area for your cat, or buy some cat perches or window legdes for inside, and your cats will perfectly happy.
@Adamantium121 Screw you, this is my opinion and its my opnion because of my expeirences and I don't feel right letting my cats outside because you don't know what can happen to them. I let them outside in my backyard with a harness and leash on and they love it. I just take precautions because I love my animals and don't want them getting hit by a car or stolen or eaten by a dog. So piss off for calling me a moron cuz I have an opinion.
@precious207 Everyone has an opinion, and of you think you're smarter than everyone else, YOU'RE NOT! You are being the most stupid person by making so many problems WORSE!
@precious207 Lol your welcome to have your opinion but don't expect to not get opposition for posting it on a video with 65000 views, sure u can say whatever you want, but if you're not going to back it up then i have no reason to agree with you. I have a 20 year old cat who has gone outdoors her whole life and who still remains to be an outdoor cat and we love her more than anything else in the world. part of that love includes her to be free to experience what she wishes, so sorry that we care

It may well be that some over-bred species are better kept indoors because they have deviated from the natural predator so far as to be helpless outside but I don't think you can make a general statement like that about all cats.
Most cats are perfectly fine outdoors and should therefore be allowed out simply because it's their natural habitat.
@1paraboo Exactly my thought! Though I don't have 'fancy' cats (both were taken from the pound and dearly loved), we'd be immensely cruel if we were to not allow them to go outside. Our ancient cat (he turned 20 this februari) doesn't move around much, but he loves to be in the garden and lounge in the sun, while our other cat loves to run outside and go explore to his heart's content.
In my opinion, there's no such thing as an 'indoors cat'. All cats should be able to get fresh air somehow.
@precious207 that is a very good point if you live in a dangerous area; near big rodes, around dogs and other dangerous things, but if you live in an area that is as safe as you can make it, and gives the cat plenty of space and comfortable spots its even better! my cats are strictly outdoor and one of them has been in perfect health and has already turned ten. my other one is two. they love it outside! so i think its good to keep a cat indoors but they also love it outside. ;)
@precious207 You know, I could keep YOU inside and give you a window to look out of all your life and yeah, you might not get run over by a car or catch AIDS and die but . . . you wouldn't be having much fun now would you.
@Weee2001 I think your comparing apples to oranges here. Humans know not to get into danger when they go outside, where as cats are too curious to know any better. In a lot of cases curiousity does kill the cat! And I never said i kept my cats inside and never let them see the light of day if you actually read my first comment I made.
@precious207 Obviously, cats like the outdoors. ANIMALS like the outdoors. What use is living for 15 years if every day is a drudgery? (for a cat, please don't spam with human morality comments) Idk why I'm having a discussion on utube lol
@Weee2001 Who said it was drudgery? Are you a cat, do you know whats going on in there mind? Probably not. Yes most cats would like to be outside, pending that it was safe for them. My cats are perfectly happy indoors for the most part. Your job as a pet owner is trying to interact with them and show them that life is just as fun inside. Throwing a cat outside and thinking that makes them happier is ridiculous. And you are the one who compared cats to humans in the first place, so get over it.
@precious207 It's not cruel, some owners have a different standard for cats. Some breeds are better suited for outdoor activity then others. All you need to do is keep an eye on when it's outside and for how long.
@precious207 Not necessarily. Our cats were indoor outdoor cat. Our smaller cat would go outside to do her business and enjoy the sun but prefered being indoor 80-90% of the time. Are heavier frame cat who was pretty tough, with long fur prefered the outdoors but would come in at night or when it got to cold. But they both seem so much happier being able to go outside. But we live in a neighborhood where ppl legally cant drive very fast.
@precious207 Plus I think it sad when you have a cat who lives indoors all day and resort to eatting all the time because its bored. An obese indoor cat maybe safe but it sure aint happy, and the extra weight from lack of activity kills the cat in itself. BUt I mean if you play w your cat or walk it outside a lot than that different but most ppl dont do that, and animals need to be outside its what natural.
@nikigurl08 The only way your cat would be eating all day is if you left food out for them to eat free choice. My cats are not overweight and go outside occasionally, but are in for most of the day. They are fed twice a day on good quality food and are energetic and happy and I interact with them and play with them almost everyday. I understand that they like to be outside but sometimes its just not the safest, depending on where you live etc.
@precious207 HELLOOOOOOOOOOOO!?!?!?!? Have you ever heard of the word NATURAL before? I think NOT! Are you a cat, do you know what's going on in their mind? I think NOT! Do you know everything about cats? I think NOT! Is it better to keep your cat trapped inside you house? I think NOT! Is it fine if you think that you can only let your cats out OCCASIONALLY? I think NOT! Let the cats do what THEY want. My cats MEOW to go outside! It's not fun to stay inside a house for the rest of you life!
@yellowwheelcar If you have read my previous comments I have already stated my opinion about cats going outside. Do YOU know what cats are thinking? Do YOU know everything about cats and what they want??? I think not so your thoughts are just as valid as mine. Sometimes cats are too curious for there own good and it gets them hurt, i'm trying to keep my cats safe, thats all!!!! All I stated was my opinion so STFU thank you, goodbye!
@precious207 I never said I knew everything about cats, by the way. Jeez I'm also stating my opinion as well, in case you haven't noticed. And I did read your previous comments. You should have actually read through your comments before being a smartarse. Oh and I know you're a girl, and guess what, I DON'T CARE! And your thoughts are JUST as valid as mine. I'm just asking, why IS your youtube name "Precious207", I don't think you're that prec(COUGH).
@precious207 Actually, all three of my cats go outside EVERYDAY and they have perfectly normal lives. It's actually worse if you prevent them from going outside. You're thinking too much about dogs my friend. There is a BIG difference between cats and dogs, IF you know what I mean.
@yellowwheelcar yah cuz you know everything right. All i fucking stated was my opinion and that is all and i get a fucking uproar of comments. Fine if you let your cats outside good for you, thats your perogative. I just don't totally agree with it cuz too many bad things can happen.
@precious207 You know what? You can shut your fucking mouth and stop making your problems MY problems! So stop polluting youtube with your extremely low intelligence!
@yellowwheelcar oh my god, why couldn't you have left this alone. You took the time to post 3 more comments in the same day of stupid bullshit. Why am I even fighting about something as stupid as fucking cats being outside?!?!? All i did was say my fucking opinion and then ppl feel the need to attack me? Get a fucking life. And FYI, i'm not a fucking kid, you know nothing about me and so what if i'm a girl, what does that have to do with anything? Stop posting useless comments on this video.
@precious207 Well if you don't want to go on about this then don't go on about it, stupid fuck! And besides, you also know absolutely NOTHING about me either! And were you too stupid to realize that I was being SARCASTIC? And I'm not the only one who's attacking! So stop polluting youtube with your stupidity! And you always make small problems BIG problems, and I was also stating my opinion, and you obviously know nothing about cats, you're being stupid by putting a leash on your cat!
@precious207 you my good mister/miss are a complete douche :) Having a long life doesn't mean it's a happy life. But of course you know it best... >_>
@bagdiil So me having an opinion means I'm a douche? Hmm seems to me that you are the douche in this situation. There is no right or wrong answer to this question of letting cats outside. Its up to the owner and there preference so I don't think either of us are wrong. Your comment was totally unneccessary......
you are ascribing human qualities to a cat. Fix your cats and keep your cats indoors. They don't give a shit. They will live longer healthier lives. If you think otherwise you are a fool. If you really want a happy cat, get two cats instead of one so they can keep each other company.
Certainly there is more risk to letting cats outside, some cats are better suited to it than others, but it's a point that different people have different opinions on... but I can say that I've had outdoor cats live more than 20 years... at 19 could run and jump fences etc... somtimes in the summer would be outside all day, then come in for some attention and to socialise in the evening... or stay in in the winter if it was cold...
Our outside is not a natural environment. Cars and other dangers lurk. An outdoor run or a leash is a safe alternative. And cats that have never been outdoors do not miss it, trust me.
P.S. BEAUTIFUL Ruddy! Nice to see not all breeders aren't breeding out their original characteristics and "typing" them with large ears, skinny bodies, changes in fur etc. Gawd, look at what they've done to the Siamese and Persians... so sad. Let's hope our beautiful Abys don't get taken that far.
So much hate here when we're simply appreciating and loving Abys. I've had Abys for more than 30 years now and I'd never let them outside for a number of reasons... being stolen being number one.
Informative, mine liked water. She died early on in her life, I could not offord (in more ways than one) to replace her. I have another cat and have rescued 30 up to date. I am happy with my cat....
I used to think that indoor/outdoor was best because natural instincts and whatever, but I live where there are lots of cars and every week I see cats get smooshed. I would DIE if that happened to my kitten. Also, I live in Hawaii, and we had a problem with people...shudder... catching cats and...selling the meat in "pork" buns. My husband and I decided that a "cat fence" in order to enclose a section of the yard for our kitty so she can have space to roam safely might be a good way to go.
WHAT A DOUCHE BAG!! "No cats are outdoors cats!" thats ridiculous!!!! why do so many americans think cats are better off locked inside all the time! this man is an idiot! I have owned many cats, and they have never been harmed from playing outdoors, cats ALWAYS have their natural instincs to hunt, so people who says ALL cats are indoor cats they know very little about cats! persians and ragdolls indoor cats yes, maybe because they are so lazy and docile!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I didnt say he wasn't allowed an opinion! I'm expressing my opinion! I know what freedom of speech is about, but he is technically wrong about cats being indoor creatures, and it frustrates me when people keep them cooped up! sorry if i offended you, I was in a bad mood that day anyway lol!
Ok, I don't see how child pornography has anything to do with what i'm talking about, but fair point. I understand the concept of free speech, I was just voicing my opinion as a cat owner that cats shouldn't be cooped up indoors all day everyday! sorry if I went about it in an aggressive way, I didnt mean to start a huge debate!
i dont get it. in my opinion theres no such thing as an indoor cat. all cats should be able to go outside whenever they want to. they are underestimated they can take care of themselves outside.
Cats have been domesticated for thousands of years. They lose their natural instincts over time. They may not be able to protect themselves. Although 'all' and that he is probably just paranoid.
well they dont lose everything, i've never heard from my neighbors about their cats getting hurt, and even when they do get into cat fights most of the time they arent badly injured plus i've seen cats defend themselves pretty well from dogs 4 times bigger than themselves with a nice clawed bitch slap to the face. =)
I agree with you, all my cats have their natural instincs to defedn their territory and hunt still. if you "cat lovers" know anything about animals, you should know an animals natural instincs, will always come out when in a natural envrionment or danger, thats why there called NATURAL INSTINCS!!
true true. cats dont have fast reflexes, hunting efficiency, climbing ability, sense of balance, strong legs, retractable claws, muscles, and sharp fangs for no reason. lol. that guy is a wuss. i would hate to be his cat.
My previous cat went outside and got attacked several times by other cats. My next cat will not go outside unless on a leash. You do expose them to greater danger by letting them loose outside. Cat fights, dog attacks, foxes, getting hit by a car, people kidnapping your cat, stupid teenagers hurting your cat or even people who don't like cats trying to poison them.
We love our Aby, however he is nothing like what is being described here. He's totally antisocial unless he's in the mood for company. He bonds with the other cats but doesnt care that much for people. He is very smart though. Certainly not recommended for someone who wants a lapcat. We have a Ragdoll that certainly fits that description though!
Very true, especially if you live in England as I do. So called "experts" don't always know what they're talking about. For example, he says the cat is from India. They're quite obviously from Africa.
You spend too much time on the computer, get over me. Don't act so obsessed. Don't worry, it's happened to a lot of people, I'm pretty stunning, but your problem can be managed with medication and time.
My problem is you. What good does it do you to be so immature and rude? I pity you. Flipping me off? Over text, on a computer screen? Oh my god, I am so not insulted at all. You are just acting like a pathetic six year old that's never seen the world outside of their own front yard. I am so done with you.
Yeah, I do live in a different place than you. I live in an area that has mountain lions, wolves, coyotes, etc, and a cat would be far FAR from the top of the food chain. I'm not the one who's crazy. Obviously you don't know how to read, either. If you're not properly caring for your cat with enough space and toys inside, obviously it won't be happy. God, grow up. *rolls eyes*
I think you're being a little unreasonable. My cat goes outside (she always has done - we rehomed her aged 2) and it is the norm in the UK for cats to go outside. I realise that there are envrionmental factors at work (there are few predators here which would attack cats). Also, more cats in the UK are "moggies" rather than pedigree cats and unlikely to be at risk of theft. Totally understand if you need to keep your cats indoors, but don't criticise those of us in the UK who let our cats out.
Yeah, but the whole world isn't like the UK sweetheart. MOST places have wild animals, large dogs, busy streets and cruel people that would be more than happy to kill your kitty cat.
In the UK it may be okay to leave your cat outside, but that's NOT the norm.
Not sure what's so different about the UK compared to, say, France, or Germany, or Belgium, or Sweden. Would be delighted to hear about your first-hand experiences of those countries too. It's probably trite to say that the whole world isn't like the US, either. It is certainly the norm in the UK to allow (not leave!) your cat outside. That's exactly what I'm saying - there are different norms in different places.
Okay, let me reply with saying AGAIN, that most places have roads, dogs, and cruel people that would be more than happy to kill a cat just for the sheer sick thrill of it. That's gonna be everywhere. I don't have to go to Germany to know there are roads and people there. Don't be condescending and hostile since I didn't adopt that snotty tone with you.
Sweetheart? That's not condescending? Saying that something might be "okay" in the UK but that it isn't the norm doesn't come across as a teeny weeny bit hostile? Having lived in a number of countries I haven't been overwhelmed the number of sick cat killers or motorways outside every house. So, it's not crazy to let your cat outside in many places. If all roads and people were that dangerous, I wouldn't be going outside, let alone the cat!
No, I wasn't being condescending, I was being polite. I don't see anything wrong with calling anyone sweetheart. There was no negative or snarky implication to me saying that to you. It was meant as a nice and affectionate term.
I see dead cats at least once or twice a week here in the states. I guess you don't have as many, and that's great. I'm really glad for that, because it's a horrible way for them to die. It's safer to leave them indoors. Logic.
Here, people complain that cats are decimating garden bird populations and mine is more at risk of being stroked to bits by the neighbours than anything else! However I won't let her out around Hallowe'en because she's black and there are lots of fireworks on 5 Nov. My father has two pedigrees and they are indoor cats (totally spoiled - THEY just let HIM in from time to time) because of the risk of theft. I guess it says something about cats that they are so successful all over the world...
That's fantastic! I'm really glad that in your neck of the woods cats are safe to roam outdoors. However, it just isn't here, and in probably I'd say 99% of the US. We just have too much wildlife and traffic is a nightmare.
It's good you keep her inside on the 5th of Nov due to the fireworks, my girlfriend's kitty was terribly burned when she bit on a still-hot sparkler.
If I could just get her to roam around a bit more, I wouldn't have to keep an eye on her weight as much! We are lucky that here we can watch her out in our garden (she doesn't really go further) but she gets more out of us being around when she's indoors. She got very confused on Monday night by the snow here - I don't think she'd really seen proper deep snow before.
Anyway, enough self-indulgent kitty-talk... Mine clearly wants her supper and then a warm bed!
We had an ice storm here in Oklahoma last week, my cats had seen ice in the three winters they've lived with my fiance and I, but they never got to actually touch the ice before. We let them into the backyard (fenced and under both our watchful eyes!) for the picture opportunity. Unfortunately none of them would step foot outside because the ice made their paws wet and they all hate that! ^_^
I had the whole "Open the door, now... oh, what's this wet cold stuff?" routine. Finally, she ate some snow and then mewed at me soooo pathetically. I have no idea where she was for the first two years of her life but we haven't had that much snow for years so I guess it's all new for her. Although why she seemed to assume the state of the garden was my fault, I don't really understand.
Can you not get them some small ice skates? [joke, obviously...]
Live to late teens? Mine died this week two weeks shy of her 15th bday. I miss her so. She was such a lady.

Goldbuns 6 months ago
@Goldbuns I disagree, but befor I go on explaining myself you should know that I live in the Netherlands, yes there are endangered species here too but not that much. A cat, in my opinion should be free to go where he/she wants, whenever he/she wants it. I happen to live on the doorstep of a forest. Also, cats tend to hunt prey when they are young, my cat is 16 now he has not been hunting for almost 6 years now. Even if he did, it would only be natural.
Fangornmmc 1 month ago
@Fangornmmc I will never think this is a good idea, unfortunately. There is NOTHING natural about a domestic cat being let loose on an area where none of the prey have evolved with a domestic cat-like predator. You are basically saying you don't care that species are going extinct. It's also natural for dogs to be running wild, too. But you don't see people throwing them outdoors with no supervision, no fences, nothing.
Goldbuns 1 month ago
@Goldbuns If you truly think that a single cat will extinct a species...well, I guess you aren't feeding the cat very well...
Anyway, we humans need fresh air, outside, every animal needs it I see absolutely no reason to not give a cat (domestic or not) that right. Dogs may be on leashes but at least they are able to go outside. Last but not least, domestic cats by nature pee and poo OUTSIDE. No offense but I almost consider it abusive to leave your cat "suffocating" inside...
Fangornmmc 3 weeks ago

MaxPaws 1 year ago
I am very protective over my cats, and I realised early on that the only way to protect them, is to teach them. I've heard too many stories of cats getting run over or killed by dogs because they escaped from their houses and didn't have the streetsmarts to survive. I have NEVER locked my cats indoors. What if there's a fire and they can't get out? This way I know they know how to avoid the dangers of the world.

Cats like to explore, just like any other animal, they don't like fences...
You are being cruel by not letting them explore the earth around them...They are not like humans that sit around and watch television all day...
Cats are totally outdoor animals, they will go live in the forest if they wanted to, cats dont need you and your shelter...they are far more adept in their senses...and can survive on their own.
evan12345a 1 year ago

Adamantium121 1 year ago
Confining a cat indoors is the worst thing you can do to a cat.
Cats are naturally explorative. If all the cat can explore is the house, what fun is that for a cat? It wants to be outside, it wants to sniff the plants and the fresh air. Why else is your cat begging to do outside all the time?
Let your cat do what it wants, and that includes going outside.
PriestDuren 1 year ago
Sorry deeallen2 but you are wrong. My cat is 19 years old, has always gone outside and we live in LONDON. I actually think it's pretty cruel to keep a cat indoors. I say let them go outside and enjoy their lives and take their chances.
gregn1981 1 year ago
What is up with all the cat people saying that the cats should not go outside. Yes of course its kinda dangerous but come on the cat needs to enjoy itself and if it doesn't come back as soon as it can get out of your house it shouldnt have been there in the first place

Nice info.
However, I must make a comment about this:
"There is no thing as an outdoor cat" WHAT?!?
This phrase has such an amount of anthropomorphous content, fallacy, idiocy, an other things that I wouldn't know where to start, so I will just say that as humans, cats are animals that appeared in nature, outdoors, not inside a house, that's their normal habitat, if there are dangers, that's the way of nature, don't be so arrogant as to dictate where a living being should live.
Aofex 2 years ago 2
Cats should be kept indoors unless you live on a farm - for their safety. Keeping cats outdoors in this day and age subjects them to being run over, victims of cruelty by mean people, or attacked by other animals. If you really care about your cat, keep 'em inside please.
amoodygal 2 years ago 8
@amoodygal

Sad.

no such thing as an outdoor cat? WTF?!!!.
I have 5 cats and they would go crazy trapped inside the house. What are they meant to do trapped in a house?
kapkone 2 years ago 16
yeah i was thinking that, it's an animal! It's "made" to live with nature....
sprousefanafonso 2 years ago
@kapkone There's a reason there are limits to how many cats you can have - yes, they do need space but I live in a biggish house with 4 cats (one of which hates the others a bit) and they spent the first few months of becoming indoor cats trying to get out, after that they adjusted and are much more affectionate, healthier, and get along with each other better.
If your cats go crazy indoors then your house might be a little too small for 5. Also, moggies often fair better outdoors.
ani05tersrvip 1 year ago
@kapkone you reconsider that when your dear half year old cat is ran over by a car or catches a lethal disease or kets killed by a dog
they love outdoors but it can be dangerous for them
xaositectz 1 year ago
@xaositectz a smart cat wont pick a fight with a chained up dog outside of a house, they will escape easy if they are active outside early in life. my cat i 15 years old and we let him out all the time, hes been hurt once and that was only minor
GenXUnderground 9 months ago
@GenXUnderground of course the cat won't pick the fight, but we have loose dogs in my home village...and i've seen many beautiful cats' corpses on the road, squashed by a car. if you don't want your cat to die, you won't let it wander around in the village, because it happens occasionally. but then of course it's nice to give them some freedom, so it's kinda a hard decision
xaositectz 7 months ago
@xaositectz i guess it all depends on the kind of scenario the cat is in, but cats really dont leave their territories often so stuff like that should be rare, if the cats learn early in life that things such as cars should be avoided and the same goes for dogs

It may well be that some over-bred species are better kept indoors because they have deviated from the natural predator so far as to be helpless outside but I don't think you can make a general statement like that about all cats.
Most cats are perfectly fine outdoors and should therefore be allowed out simply because it's their natural habitat.
1paraboo 1 year ago
@1paraboo Exactly my thought! Though I don't have 'fancy' cats (both were taken from the pound and dearly loved), we'd be immensely cruel if we were to not allow them to go outside. Our ancient cat (he turned 20 this februari) doesn't move around much, but he loves to be in the garden and lounge in the sun, while our other cat loves to run outside and go explore to his heart's content.
In my opinion, there's no such thing as an 'indoors cat'. All cats should be able to get fresh air somehow.
CandyCrayon91 1 year ago

@precious207 - It really depends where you live and what kind of yard you have.
muumikopio 1 year ago
@precious207 that is a very good point if you live in a dangerous area; near big rodes, around dogs and other dangerous things, but if you live in an area that is as safe as you can make it, and gives the cat plenty of space and comfortable spots its even better! my cats are strictly outdoor and one of them has been in perfect health and has already turned ten. my other one is two. they love it outside! so i think its good to keep a cat indoors but they also love it outside. ;)
catsrock090 1 year ago
@precious207 You know, I could keep YOU inside and give you a window to look out of all your life and yeah, you might not get run over by a car or catch AIDS and die but . . . you wouldn't be having much fun now would you.
Weee2001 1 year ago
@Weee2001 I think your comparing apples to oranges here. Humans know not to get into danger when they go outside, where as cats are too curious to know any better. In a lot of cases curiousity does kill the cat! And I never said i kept my cats inside and never let them see the light of day if you actually read my first comment I made.
precious207 1 year ago
@precious207 Obviously, cats like the outdoors. ANIMALS like the outdoors. What use is living for 15 years if every day is a drudgery? (for a cat, please don't spam with human morality comments) Idk why I'm having a discussion on utube lol
Weee2001 1 year ago

LollieSmith 1 year ago
@precious207 Not necessarily. Our cats were indoor outdoor cat. Our smaller cat would go outside to do her business and enjoy the sun but prefered being indoor 80-90% of the time. Are heavier frame cat who was pretty tough, with long fur prefered the outdoors but would come in at night or when it got to cold. But they both seem so much happier being able to go outside. But we live in a neighborhood where ppl legally cant drive very fast.
nikigurl08 1 year ago
@precious207 Plus I think it sad when you have a cat who lives indoors all day and resort to eatting all the time because its bored. An obese indoor cat maybe safe but it sure aint happy, and the extra weight from lack of activity kills the cat in itself. BUt I mean if you play w your cat or walk it outside a lot than that different but most ppl dont do that, and animals need to be outside its what natural.
nikigurl08 1 year ago
@nikigurl08 The only way your cat would be eating all day is if you left food out for them to eat free choice. My cats are not overweight and go outside occasionally, but are in for most of the day. They are fed twice a day on good quality food and are energetic and happy and I interact with them and play with them almost everyday. I understand that they like to be outside but sometimes its just not the safest, depending on where you live etc.
precious207 1 year ago
@precious207 HELLOOOOOOOOOOOO!?!?!?!? Have you ever heard of the word NATURAL before? I think NOT! Are you a cat, do you know what's going on in their mind? I think NOT! @yellowwheelcar yah cuz you know everything right. All i fucking stated was my opinion and that is all and i get a fucking uproar of comments. Fine if you let your cats outside good for you, thats your perogative. I just don't totally agree with it cuz too many bad things can happen.
precious207 1 year ago
@precious207 Yeah, thanks by saying that I know everything by the way, I AM THE MASTER!!!!!
yellowwheelcar 1 year ago
@precious207 You know what? You can shut your fucking mouth and stop making your problems MY problems! So stop polluting youtube with your extremely low intelligence!
yellowwheelcar 1 year ago
@yellowwheelcar oh my god, why couldn't you have left this alone. You took the time to post 3 more comments in the same day of stupid bullshit. Why am I even fighting about something as stupid as fucking cats being outside?!?!? All i did was say my fucking opinion and then ppl feel the need to attack me? Get a fucking life. And FYI, i'm not a fucking kid, you know nothing about me and so what if i'm a girl, what does that have to do with anything? Stop posting useless comments on this video.
precious207 1 year ago
@precious207 Well if you don't want to go on about this then don't go on about it, stupid fuck! And besides, you also know absolutely NOTHING about me either! And were you too stupid to realize that I was being SARCASTIC? And I'm not the only one who's attacking! So stop polluting youtube with your stupidity! And you always make small problems BIG problems, and I was also stating my opinion, and you obviously know nothing about cats, you're being stupid by putting a leash on your cat!
yellowwheelcar 1 year ago
@precious207 you my good mister/miss are a complete douche :) Having a long life doesn't mean it's a happy life. But of course you know it best... >_>
bagdiil 1 year ago
@bagdiil So me having an opinion means I'm a douche? Hmm seems to me that you are the douche in this situation. There is no right or wrong answer to this question of letting cats outside. Its up to the owner and there preference so I don't think either of us are wrong. Your comment was totally unneccessary......
precious207 1 year ago
A modern urban environment is also unnatural and cruel to a cat. Unless you live in a rural area, all cats ought to be indoor cats.
Bregowald 2 years ago 5
you are ascribing human qualities to a cat. Fix your cats and keep your cats indoors. They don't give a shit. They will live longer healthier lives. If you think otherwise you are a fool. If you really want a happy cat, get two cats instead of one so they can keep each other company.
Devr0ss 2 years ago
Certainly there is more risk to letting cats outside, some cats are better suited to it than others, but it's a point that different people have different opinions on... but I can say that I've had outdoor cats live more than 20 years... at 19 could run and jump fences etc... somtimes in the summer would be outside all day, then come in for some attention and to socialise in the evening... or stay in in the winter if it was cold...
lewiar 2 years ago
Our outside is not a natural environment. Cars and other dangers lurk. An outdoor run or a leash is a safe alternative. And cats that have never been outdoors do not miss it, trust me.

P.S. BEAUTIFUL Ruddy! Nice to see not all breeders aren't breeding out their original characteristics and "typing" them with large ears, skinny bodies, changes in fur etc. Gawd, look at what they've done to the Siamese and Persians... so sad. Let's hope our beautiful Abys don't get taken that far.
giftandprosper 2 years ago 2
So much hate here when we're simply appreciating and loving Abys. I've had Abys for more than 30 years now and I'd never let them outside for a number of reasons... being stolen being number one.
giftandprosper 2 years ago 2
Informative, mine liked water. She died early on in her life, I could not offord (in more ways than one) to replace her. I have another cat and have rescued 30 up to date. I am happy with my cat....
davidlaksa 2 years ago
I used to think that indoor/outdoor was best because natural instincts and whatever, but I live where there are lots of cars and every week I see cats get smooshed. I would DIE if that happened to my kitten. Also, I live in Hawaii, and we had a problem with people...shudder... catching cats and...selling the meat in "pork" buns. My husband and I decided that a "cat fence" in order to enclose a section of the yard for our kitty so she can have space to roam safely might be a good way to go.

How much do you pay for rent there?

I have an abby, his name is Amos. He LOVES going outside, and he is constantly babbling to me and my girls. He must have prissy cats.
danbarrychic96 3 years ago
WHAT A DOUCHE BAG!! "No cats are outdoors cats!" thats ridiculous!!!! why do so many americans think cats are better off locked inside all the time! this man is an idiot! I have owned many cats, and they have never been harmed from playing outdoors, cats ALWAYS have their natural instincs to hunt, so people who says ALL cats are indoor cats they know very little about cats! persians and ragdolls indoor cats yes, maybe because they are so lazy and docile!

Gunplay88 2 years ago
Freedom of speech no longer means you can talk about the government without penalties.
It does however mean you can download child pornography and do anything or say anything degraded.
As long as it hurts and harms America then its allowed.
Just wanted to make sure you are on the same page.
okrabay 2 years ago
Ok, I don't see how child pornography has anything to do with what i'm talking about, but fair point. I understand the concept of free speech, I was just voicing my opinion as a cat owner that cats shouldn't be cooped up indoors all day everyday! sorry if I went about it in an aggressive way, I didnt mean to start a huge debate!
Gunplay88 2 years ago
i dont get it. in my opinion theres no such thing as an indoor cat. all cats should be able to go outside whenever they want to. they are underestimated they can take care of themselves outside.
BeNGALi4LFE 3 years ago 3
Cats have been domesticated for thousands of years. They lose their natural instincts over time. They may not be able to protect themselves. Although 'all' and that he is probably just paranoid.
Kamikazeesouled 3 years ago
well they dont lose everything, i've never heard from my neighbors about their cats getting hurt, and even when they do get into cat fights most of the time they arent badly injured plus i've seen cats defend themselves pretty well from dogs 4 times bigger than themselves with a nice clawed bitch slap to the face. =)
BeNGALi4LFE 3 years ago
I agree with you, all my cats have their natural instincs to defedn their territory and hunt still. if you "cat lovers" know anything about animals, you should know an animals natural instincs, will always come out when in a natural envrionment or danger, thats why there called NATURAL INSTINCS!!
Gunplay88 3 years ago
true true. cats dont have fast reflexes, hunting efficiency, climbing ability, sense of balance, strong legs, retractable claws, muscles, and sharp fangs for no reason. lol. that guy is a wuss. i would hate to be his cat.
BeNGALi4LFE 3 years ago
My previous cat went outside and got attacked several times by other cats. My next cat will not go outside unless on a leash. You do expose them to greater danger by letting them loose outside. Cat fights, dog attacks, foxes, getting hit by a car, people kidnapping your cat, stupid teenagers hurting your cat or even people who don't like cats trying to poison them.

I love abbys! :)
evpkitty 3 years ago 3
We love our Aby, however he is nothing like what is being described here. He's totally antisocial unless he's in the mood for company. He bonds with the other cats but doesnt care that much for people. He is very smart though. Certainly not recommended for someone who wants a lapcat. We have a Ragdoll that certainly fits that description though!

Ha! That's funny- Oh and by the way, "Mind you" your country is the ass crack of the world!

so they don't act as lap cats then?
Fullperson 3 years ago
Very true, especially if you live in England as I do. So called "experts" don't always know what they're talking about. For example, he says the cat is from India. They're quite obviously from Africa.

You spend too much time on the computer, get over me. Don't act so obsessed. Don't worry, it's happened to a lot of people, I'm pretty stunning, but your problem can be managed with medication and time.
satindesire 3 years ago
My problem is you. What good does it do you to be so immature and rude? I pity you. Flipping me off? Over text, on a computer screen? Oh my god, I am so not insulted at all. You are just acting like a pathetic six year old that's never seen the world outside of their own front yard. I am so done with you.
satindesire 3 years ago
Yeah, I do live in a different place than you. I live in an area that has mountain lions, wolves, coyotes, etc, and a cat would be far FAR from the top of the food chain. I'm not the one who's crazy. Obviously you don't know how to read, either. If you're not properly caring for your cat with enough space and toys inside, obviously it won't be happy. God, grow up. *rolls eyes*
satindesire 3 years ago
I think you're being a little unreasonable. My cat goes outside (she always has done - we rehomed her aged 2) and it is the norm in the UK for cats to go outside. I realise that there are envrionmental factors at work (there are few predators here which would attack cats). Also, more cats in the UK are "moggies" rather than pedigree cats and unlikely to be at risk of theft. Totally understand if you need to keep your cats indoors, but don't criticise those of us in the UK who let our cats out.
Cattendontcare 3 years ago
Yeah, but the whole world isn't like the UK sweetheart. MOST places have wild animals, large dogs, busy streets and cruel people that would be more than happy to kill your kitty cat.
In the UK it may be okay to leave your cat outside, but that's NOT the norm.
satindesire 3 years ago
Not sure what's so different about the UK compared to, say, France, or Germany, or Belgium, or Sweden. Would be delighted to hear about your first-hand experiences of those countries too. It's probably trite to say that the whole world isn't like the US, either. It is certainly the norm in the UK to allow (not leave!) your cat outside. That's exactly what I'm saying - there are different norms in different places.
Cattendontcare 3 years ago
Okay, let me reply with saying AGAIN, that most places have roads, dogs, and cruel people that would be more than happy to kill a cat just for the sheer sick thrill of it. That's gonna be everywhere. I don't have to go to Germany to know there are roads and people there. Don't be condescending and hostile since I didn't adopt that snotty tone with you.
satindesire 3 years ago
Cattendontcare 3 years ago
No, I wasn't being condescending, I was being polite. I don't see anything wrong with calling anyone sweetheart. There was no negative or snarky implication to me saying that to you. It was meant as a nice and affectionate term.
I see dead cats at least once or twice a week here in the states. I guess you don't have as many, and that's great. I'm really glad for that, because it's a horrible way for them to die. It's safer to leave them indoors. Logic.
satindesire 3 years ago
Here, people complain that cats are decimating garden bird populations and mine is more at risk of being stroked to bits by the neighbours than anything else! However I won't let her out around Hallowe'en because she's black and there are lots of fireworks on 5 Nov. My father has two pedigrees and they are indoor cats (totally spoiled - THEY just let HIM in from time to time) because of the risk of theft. I guess it says something about cats that they are so successful all over the world...
Cattendontcare 3 years ago
That's fantastic! I'm really glad that in your neck of the woods cats are safe to roam outdoors. However, it just isn't here, and in probably I'd say 99% of the US. We just have too much wildlife and traffic is a nightmare.
It's good you keep her inside on the 5th of Nov due to the fireworks, my girlfriend's kitty was terribly burned when she bit on a still-hot sparkler.
satindesire 3 years ago
If I could just get her to roam around a bit more, I wouldn't have to keep an eye on her weight as much! We are lucky that here we can watch her out in our garden (she doesn't really go further) but she gets more out of us being around when she's indoors. She got very confused on Monday night by the snow here - I don't think she'd really seen proper deep snow before.
Anyway, enough self-indulgent kitty-talk... Mine clearly wants her supper and then a warm bed!
Cattendontcare 3 years ago
We had an ice storm here in Oklahoma last week, my cats had seen ice in the three winters they've lived with my fiance and I, but they never got to actually touch the ice before. We let them into the backyard (fenced and under both our watchful eyes!) for the picture opportunity. Unfortunately none of them would step foot outside because the ice made their paws wet and they all hate that! ^_^
satindesire 3 years ago
I had the whole "Open the door, now... oh, what's this wet cold stuff?" routine. Finally, she ate some snow and then mewed at me soooo pathetically. I have no idea where she was for the first two years of her life but we haven't had that much snow for years so I guess it's all new for her. Although why she seemed to assume the state of the garden was my fault, I don't really understand.
Can you not get them some small ice skates? [joke, obviously...]
