@bombolianna Thanks for the compliment - I appreciate it.
BTW I wrote '... not have been presented with biased ...', should have been of course something like '... not have been presented with an unbiased ...'. But apparently you understood it anyway - take care.
@bombolianna Sorry to hear from your experience. Not knowing the details, I would just like to make a general remark that depending on the situation you might not have been presented with biased sample of the whole male population of the country.
There are also a wide variance how our 'own' females expect/want to be met in various situations - and this male bullshit can hit also on them regardless of their skin/hair complexion.
@riadtel22 Finnish is not s Slavic tongue either - it is not even an Indo-European language. Finnish and Estonian (but not Lithuanian) belong to the Fenno-Ugric language group - others are Karelian, Sami languages, Hungarian and various other small languages in Russia. All the other languages in Europe (excluding Bask) are Indo-European (Romance, Germanic, Slavic, Greek, Celtic, etc) so they are even closer to Hindi or Persian than to e.g., Finnish.
@riadtel22 Sorry - I meant the several different languages spoken by the Sami peoples in the northernmost part of Europe - Lapland etc. No known connection to Arabic :(
@bombolianna Exaggeration is not that bad in case one knows what he/she is doing ;)
In Finland women got equal rights in nationwide elections already in 1906. Our female president is in her second term, the previous prime minister was a woman - so it doesn't look that bad.
However, as a male Finn, I must concur that there is still lot to be done - in certain circumstances the attitudes are plainly appalling.
Did I mention we have a gender neutral grammar - no 'he' or 'she' just 'hän' etc. ;)
@bombolianna This pop(?) version, shure sounds russian-influenced. I also hear a kind of a 'Eurovision' pop sound, which is we make fun of in Finland quite a lot. Elevator music indeed, without much elevation.
I like this Loituma's Ievan Polkka as an acapella version, or with folk music instruments: violin, accordeon - stuff like that. Here the synthesizer sounds close to violin in the end, which I like - but the drum beat is a bit cheap for my taste.
@bombolianna There is an ever going discussion what the term 'Scandinavian' implies - in many situations, like when discussing about the general societal values and e.g., welfare state it seems even appropriate to include Finland in that group - we have a better word for that 'Nordic' but it is not well known abroad.
Can't help wondering what you might mean by Finland being a 3rd world country vs. Denmark. From my point of view they are quite similar - but perhaps I'm just nearsighted?
@bombolianna Hmmm - this is indeed quite stupid. But it really was very big side step from what these artists normally do - an humorous acknowledgment for this whole 'Ievan Polkka' craziness in the net-land.
Their 'original' a cappella version of the song is however a masterpiece - should be apparent for anyone that has any musical talent themselves.
If by pop you mean Anglo-American based music style - there are too many of them even in Finland - even some good ones, but still too many as said.
@bombolianna finnish is not scandinavian, nor russian. It's the more original (since ice age) culture and language in an area where scandinavians and russians came later. the music has influences from both. this song has influencs from russian, cause it comes from eastern finland, next to russia
@miracoulus I like both performances, this video proves that they are not stuck in their old-fashion mind and that they can sing this song in very different ways.
@ArnoHolo Yes, I agree. But there is a difference between adapting yourself and abandoning your values to earn money. Of course, it's just my opinion.
EVERYONE PULL OUT YOUR LEEKS AND VOCALOIDS AND LET'S PAAAARTAAAYYY!!!!!

I though that some beautiful things could avoid being spoilt in this disgusting world. Actually it's not the case.
